The Super Mario Movie Review: It was... 

I was kind of disappointed that they just put Luigi in a cage so early because he was one of the characters I was most excited for but I do agree it was probably better than having Mario try to save peach

8:01 About this, I've seen the argument that Martinet COULD tone down the accent to voice Mario. While there might be some truth to that, the question is: HOW MUCH would he have to tone down said accent while still being recognizable? If you take away too little, it still sounds a bit hard to take seriously; but if you take away too much, it doesn't sound recognizable anymore 12:22 Not gonna lie, that sounds completely in-character for someone like Peach

(Only half-listened to the review, mostly paying attention to the gameplay) I was worried at the end that it would cut before you finished Toy Time, glad to see it not be done like that!

So two things i loved were the ringtone being the Gamecube console start up noise, and that Luigi's Mansion got a nod too. But i really disliked how Yoshi only got a fleeting passing glance, and even then green Yoshi wasn't the main focus! Same as you, a modern movie by Illumination, i was expecting to hate it, and there were tropes and such i disliked. But it was surprisingly enjoyable!

I'll wait until it's free on one of the streaming services. How dare the copyright claim the people doing reviews?

I love the movie Chris Pratt generally impressed me. Having Luigi be the one needing rescuing made more sense. Especially as Mario rescuing peach after just meeting wouldn't make sense.

(Apologies for the long comment, I have a lot of thoughts about this film) As a part of the minority that isn’t too keen on Big M’s cinematic debut (no the 1993 one does NOT count), I respect that your argument is more than just “it’s 90 minutes of mario references 10/10”, however I also respectfully disagree with you. First of all, from the moment I heard there was a mario movie being made, I knew I would not be impressed because, let’s be honest here, the Mario franchise was never gonna be a great choice for a film adaptation. Let me be clear, if we have to have a Nintendo franchise in movie form, Mario is definitely the best option (though I do wish we could get a Wii Sports-based movie), it’s their flagship franchise, everyone knows it, and almost all of Nintendo’s other franchises would have their own problems, like non-speaking protagonists (kirby), themes too mature for it to work well as a kids movie (fire emblem), or both (zelda), but everyone knows that you don’t play Mario games for the story (except maybe Super Paper Mario), that’s always my issue with video game movies, if it’s just an adaptation of the same plot from the game, why not just play the game, what difference does being a movie make? Second, the plot (or lack thereof). This might just be a personal thing, but I don’t care how good a movie looks or how much nostalgia bait there is if it doesn’t tell a good story, and… you said it yourself, it’s literally just Super Mario Odyssey again except Peach is a girlboss and Luigi is… there, I knew going in not to expect much (again, because Mario), but I had hoped for a MOVIE they would have done a LITTLE bit more, I guess Mr. Miyamoto’s dislike of having a story doesn’t just apply to his games. Finally (because this comment has quickly become an essay), I just have to mention the most contentious point when it was first announced: the CASTING. Say what you will about listening to “It’s a me mario” and “BUP” for an hour and a half, I think it would’ve been amusing (all those “toad sings” videos exist for a reason), the worst offenders in my eyes were Peach and DK, everytime either of them talked my brain was like, “I SEE Peach and DK, but my ears are telling me something else”. And while Jack Black was definitely the best out of the cast, I still wish we had had Scott Burns (sunshine Bowser) just because of how hilarious it would’ve been (also speaking of sunshine they should’ve had Toadsworth in the movie too just saying) Overall, I’d give it a 5/10, as much as I may gripe about it it’s still just a harmless kids movie at the end of the day, I just went in hoping it would try to be something more. I am still glad to hear how many other people enjoyed it, though!
