I see a HD 600 behind you, and I know that those are 10x the price, but how would you compare them to these in terms of sound quality/clarity?
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 5 лет назад
Sorry for the late reply lad! They are just very different headphones both have great clarity but just sound different. The HD330 hits harder in the bass and has a somewhat recessed mid-range but does have a bump around 2k I believe (I ran a measurement of this headphone but cannot find it on my PC right now). The 600's have a similar bump around 3k. That areas is the only problem for me for the 600. It just sounds too in your face sometimes. You may actually enjoy the 650 more as it's a bit more subdued. You'll also need an Amp for the 600 but you might also need one for the 330. For the 330, it really just depends on your phone DAC and how good it is. Treble on the 330 is much brighter and sounds more lively but may get kind of grainy/sibilant at times. Not a deal breaker but something to keep in mind vs. the laid back treble of the 600. Hopefully that helps! Let me know.

@@HomeStudioBasics Thanks for the detailed answer! Very informative. Already tried the superlux hd 440s (which should be very similar sound quality-wise, just with a different signature), because I could pick them up for 20 euros lol, and while I dig the sound, I can't listen to them...way too uncomfortable. (ordered some pads, but don't have much hope :D) Also, the left channel on my pair of 440s seems to produce a more fuller sound... bummer. So yeah, I'm already in this pithole called audiophilia btw, so I do have an amp :D (aune x1s 10th anniversary) And I know how hd 58Xs, k712s, hd 380s, ksc75s and superlux 668bs sound... I just haven't gotten around to trying the hd 600s yet, which should have probably been my first headphone... I knew about them from the start, but I just couldn't get myself to lay down 275 for a new pair... and with the pads costing 50+ eur, and them wearing out fast, I don't want to get a used pair either...since they run for around 200~ eur. Add the pads and the lack of a warranty... and they aren't worth it used in the slightest. I think I've experienced the INYOURFACE nature of the HD 6__ line while using the hd 58X :D Sometimes I preferred that over the laid-backness of my k712s... overall I found the HD 58Xs to be noticeably more grainy and less refined than the k712s... and ended up selling them because of that. Thanks again for the answer! Hope your channel grows as a result of being so responsive! (I do the same with my commenters... but I make way more shitty/lousy videos than you do :D)

I'll be sure to check out your channel! I really wish you would have kept the 58X's lol. I was going to ask you if I could borrow them for a comparison between them and the 600's. How do you like the Aune X1S? And thanks for the kind words bro. Be sure to sub if you haven't as I have some good stuff coming. :)

@@HomeStudioBasics Oh, my channel's a mess, and it probably won't entertain you, as it has very little audio related content. :D But the same can't be said about yours, since you do put in the effort to keep it all neat. I just saw a video of yours with the DF Red... would be interesting to have a comparison between that and my x1s, (which by the way I like, it sounds clear, with less distortion than a Xonar DGX or my Xiaomi Mi4 or any other phone I had for that matter... but it's a bit clinical sounding) however, chances are you live in the US, so even though I'd happily lend it to you for a week or two, shipping from Slovakia and back would make that pointless, just like it'd have with the 58Xs. :'D

Oh wow, how fortunate to find this video posted just yesterday! I just looked up the HD-330 on a whim to see how it differs from my HD-660 (mostly the same design but closed, different sound). I like this review, and especially how you manage to point out specific frequency spikes. My HD-660 also has a treble spike which I assume is the same as with these, and surprisingly not much bass.

Nice observation indeed. I got this as a field replacement for my workhorse DT770 Pro's and they sound somewhat similar without me noticing them when I auditioned them out off my phone. And yes, just like the Beyers, the HD330s are really comfy compared to say, my colleague's Shure monitoring cans. They do need a slight bit of Eq'ing on the top to take off the edginess, but after you get the chance to properly burn in these cans, the top gets a little softened and integrated with the rest of the frequency spectrum. Great video btw! Looking forward to more similar takes from your chan.

Thanks much Simon! Are you using the velour pads from the video? I love the HD330! I agree about the upper mids/low treble area. A tad bitey but just a fantastic sound and very lively. Reminds me a lot of the HD25's energy. Stay tuned for some good stuff coming! Got a K3 vs. E10K video and just received an HD6XX from one of my readers on the blog! Really excited about that. I got these about a month ago. And I come from years of using Sennheiser game ones, Hyperx clouds, and Koss porta pros. I have to say these are one of the best sounding headphones. Yes they are definitely better then clouds and even more enjoyable than game ones. The bass is fantastic. Noes not go super deep but the bass that is these is pretty good. One thing that a found annoying is the sibilance can be sometimes pretty sharp. But besides that. They are pretty nuts for the price. These thinks sound like a 200+ dollar headphones for about 30-40 dollars.

hey! Awesome review! Really helpful. It's the only reason I know the HD330 even exist! I'm currently choosing between the HD330, HD681, HD668B and the Hd681 EVO. I read your other responses and understand the difference in sound, but that's not all that important to me. I wanna get a pair that's gonna last me a long while. I believe the HD 681 EVO and the HD668B have a short cable sticking out. I read somewhere that it tends to break and shorten the headphones' lifespan. Can you coment on that and perhaps give me a tip on which headphones tend to last the longest?
@HomeStudioBasics

Hey man thank you so much! I'd probably go with the HD330 honestly. It's built super rugged like a Beyerdynamic and feels pretty heavy even despite the meager price tag. Where are you located?
@nicoj.8242
@nicoj.8242 3 года назад
Yeah had bought the HD681EVO and it broke after like a year, got a replacement shipped quickly, broke after a year. The exact same spot where the cable connects to the headphone. No problems with the HD330 yet and I think I won't have any as the spot where the cable connects to the headphones is heavily supported by a lot of rubber, unlike with the HD681EVO. The sound was always good for both models IMO.

To anyone thinking of buying a pair of these, budget for replacing the pads. I'm using thick, soft, velour topped pads in place of the stock vinyl ones. Huge improvement in comfort over the stock ones. Fire them up, relax into the sound. They need an amplifier to sound of their best. I've tried with a dongle-DAC from my 'phone. Meh. My DAP just about gets there, but DAP-->amp and things liven up. It isn't just the (milli)Wattage that matters, it's the reserve power, the audio 'torque' that can be delivered that gives the breadth, depth and outright bollocks to the sound. 'Never Mind The Bollocks' to Beethoven's Ninth, 'Kind Of Blue' to 'Tangled Up In Blue' Bach to Black Sabbath, they all sound superb via these headphones, with the pads and amplifier caveats. Altering them to allow cable replacement or balanced cabling may or may not be in the future. Other than that, bargain.

hi, thanks for your review, I own an hd330, I broke the velour just internally for a better high frequency response on the highs, and I like to know from you, as sound signature and space, if it is very similar to DT-770, also taking in account Beyer is closed type, and if you tested it with some crossfed sw/hw (vst Isone or VRM BOX for instance,,) as well. I also the soft skin over cause my big head, I use it for mixing and mastering, but for tracking an Ultrasone proline 550. Thanks much

@@HomeStudioBasics nah it's not about the pads. the "foam" that i was talking about is on the back of the headphones. with the one i have, you cant see the driver because there was some kind of foam or something that was blocking it. but with the one you have in this video, the back is total clear and you can see the drivers through those holes. i believe that layer of foam is the reason why they called it "semi" - open. and about the pads, im using the beyer DT770 pads with it and its pretty decent for me: soft, comfort, and most importantly...cheap (to an extent).

Hey man I'd probably go 9500 or 668B. I'm partial to 9500. Just a fantastic headphone. Keep in mind it's going to have a bit of bass roll off, so be prepared for a light low end sound going in. It's very articulate and detailed though. Eye opening. I really love it for multi-use applications. 668B has more mid-bass emphasis, but outside of that they are pretty similar headphones. If you'd like some more slam, you may look to the 668B. It's kind of similar to my beloved K702 actually. I use both the K702 and 9500 for gaming and both have great Soundstage. If you forced me to choose, I'd probably have to take the 702 for the best all around headphone. So in that sense, the 668B may be better for you. I guess it just depends if you prefer complete neutrality (9500) or a bit more excitement (668B). Let me know if that helps!

Too v-shaped and kind of clinical and lifeless sounding, treble harshness and sibilance also annoyed me. Headphones from asian brands can sometimes be suprisingly good... Ive owned Msur N650 (about $90) for a while now and to my ears they beat many headphones way above their price range including M50, MDR1A and DT 770, im tempted to place them above V6. Looked for it and can't find a good price. I clicked on some Ali Express link and a coupon for $3 off popped up. I'm like OH BOY! Lol. /sarcasm

I'm on the fence between HD330 and HD681, Here are my dilemmas: - That HD330 would need an amp (because of 150ohms) and I don't have one, I only have external DAC dongle. Though I've heard HD330 are driven easily so they don't need an amp. Is that true? (I'm using a laptop, a hi-end one more or less) - Everyone's a bit different, but do you think HD330 or HD681 would be more comfortable? Also, if this helps, I listen to rock and metal mostly and I would use the headphones for guitar practice. I would thank you a lot for any advice (I do not exclude other headphones)

My pleasure man! Hmm never heard of those. Would you say speed is similar to Rage Against the Machine? I'd say as far as liveliness, excitement, and overall crunch is concerned, the 330 is perfect for that. It keeps up extremely well with what I listened to, but again, not sure of your bands. Let me know. I'm out at the moment. I could give them a listen in a bit.

Hey man! Most any Amp/DAC is going to improve the sound quality of the headphone in question unless you already have a really good laptop with a great internal soundcard (DAC). What are you rockin'? Phone, Laptop, etc. I guess it just depends. I've talked to some people who said it didn't make much of a difference out of their laptop vs. a separate DAC. It just depends. As far as power requirements, the HD330 can be driven out of a phone to loud enough levels but I'd almost always recommend some more juice given it's 150 Ohm impedance as it will resist a bit more than average.

Are they better than the samson sr850
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 5 лет назад
Comfort wise yes, if you get velour pads for them. Better depends on if you prefer more or less bass. Part of the mid-range on these is a bit scooped but they have some nice presence around 2k. Treble is less bright than an 850 and also less fatiguing, but you'll hear some slight fuzz/metallic character in it. Soundstage on both is very good. Perhaps the 850 has a tad more but it's almost a wash. I think the main difference is that this is more of a casual fun headphone while the 850 would be more suited for critical listening. Both can be enjoyed for general music listening regardless.

is this one better than 668b?
@HomeStudioBasics
@HomeStudioBasics 5 лет назад
Hey man! Just different signatures really. 668B has more rolled off bass. The HD330 is more of an exciting, somewhat V-shaped sound with more bass emphasis. 668B has a bump around 2k whereas hd330 around 5-7k. Keep in mind this one in the video is a mod with different pads. I would say if you're going to be listening to bass heavier stuff or just need some extra weight and impact, the 330 is awesome with those velour pads. 668B is better suited for critical listening/movies/gaming, etc. Let me know if that helps!

@@HomeStudioBasics thanks for the response mate! I guess will keep my 668B and upgrade to DT990 instead of buying this one. I heard that DT990 is more bassy but it's even better for movies and gaming.

@@cybericarus1476 Yeah man my pleasure! Can't go wrong with the DT900 either. Very open sounding headphone and probably a bit more comfortable than the 330 though with the velour pads it's basically a tie. Keep me updated!

Hey what do you think is better? The Superlux 681 or this Superlux HD330? I was thinking of buying new headphones and I'm split between the two

Hmm. That's a tough one! Are you referring to the EVO or just the HD681?

@@HomeStudioBasics just the HD681 NOT the EVO version

Hmm. Well the 681 is really neutral aside from a treble spike. The HD330 is a bit more "V-shapey." Super fun headphone. Crispy asf. Which do you think you'd prefer?
