The main issue by this point is that so many characters that have died and come back that you're always waiting for a character to come back and expecting any new characters just to die
@janellehuneke8049
@janellehuneke8049 Год назад
That's my personal biggest gripe with Supernatural. I hated how Gabriel died the last time, when Crowley died the scene didn't fully hit me until I was halfway through the next season and I realized he probably wouldn't come back, and Dean's final death made me mad because I didn't think they'd actually kill him off, even with it being the finale
@pn2294
@pn2294 Год назад
I was upset about Mick. Sam needed more friends.
@ATD-uc3lb
@ATD-uc3lb Год назад
Agreed. In some cases they stress the point that they're dead, they can't come back, yet they themselves have come back so many times that they can definitely bring back Charlie or Bob or Cas.
@ATD-uc3lb
@ATD-uc3lb Год назад
@@janellehuneke8049 I remember watching an episode after Crowley's death in which Rowena's trying to bring her son back, and Sam and Dean are like, "You can't bring him back. You have to move on. When almost every single season, Sam and Dean bring each other back from the dead. I was also really irritated when Gabriel died again. I really like him, and they brought him back for maybe 3 or 5 episodes and then killed him again. It feels pointless, and only for shock value, when they kill people off so much. With all of Cas' glorious deaths, they'd try to kill him off time and time again and every time, they'd play it like it's so tragic. then he comes back a few episodes later and then immediately leaves the bunker for multiple episodes because they apparently can't just have Cas there, and just hanging around for once. The end of the show just feels so hollow because once again, nobody around them matters. They end the show with just the two of them. All of their friends are dead. And then Dean's death was kinda dumb as well.

I always just figured that Chuck becoming an antagonist was the curtain actually lifting; like he was always like this, even his appearances in Season 11, but he was acting. He admitted to pretending being a prophet, why not a more repentant persona in general?

I don't like how the show killed Dean. Dean always said he'd die on a hunt and overall it just felt kinda depressing that he believed it. He had a normal life when Sam was gone, I wish the show proved Dean wrong. This is like a suicide victim saying no one would care then that exact thing happening, no one wants that to be the case. Sam and Dean deserved a happy ending. You can argue what we got was a happy ending but was it? They fought for Earth, not heaven. I think how I'm writing is a bit weird but I just dislike how dean dies in the end.

I think Jensen didn't even like how they handled Dean's death, but it's over and done with. Made me cry like a baby even if it wasn't the best ending. I'm on a 1-5 season rewatch, and I think they went full-circle on the fact that Dean said he would hunt until the day he died, plus he was always kind of suicidal, especially after Season 2. They both deserved happy endings, but the showrunners weren't going to do that because a certain audience (Destiel shippers) wouldn't be pleased had Dean married a woman and had a family of his own like Sam did. That's why I think they did it the way they did. Edit: And this isn't to drag Destiel shippers, but there's no denying that there would be anger. I feel like a lot of the ending had to do with C*vid and rushing an ending (like wtf was that low-budget wig on Sam??) and also the two sides of the fandom.
@Larchy
@Larchy Год назад
@@enexius67 I feel like dean could've been the cool uncle for sam's children, and what he's doing after the events could be kept vague then they could imply something with Dean and Castiel, something for people to imagine.

I'd love to see the cast, crew, or whomever was in charge talk about the reasons and choices to end the show. I know both Jensen, Jared, and the fans wanted to keep the series going, but I feel the writers, show runner, and Studio wanted to end it. The announcement of the show ending came as a real shocker but the end was really near when covid disrupted everything, and everyone pretty much gave up and moved on (and rightfully so, that whole period sucked).
@setofreakinkaiba8553

The viewership had dropped a lot since early years. It wouldn’t have kept going if they didn’t decide to end it. Also why run a show totally into the dirt? It wasn’t going to be as good anymore. When it comes to the possession of Michael, in The Song Remains the Same, Michael says the vessel concept is a bloodline (at least for Michael and Lucifer), "True vessel but not my only one." He also mentions not leaving the vessel as a "drooling mess" after he got done wearing Dean. There have been other examples of angels returning to prior human vessels that were still around, but I understand the argument that they were normal angels and not archangels. Gabriel though, I believe he created a brand new vessel, changing his identity, so he could hide out on earth from his family, avoiding the upcoming apocalypse (Michael vs Lucifer).

The season 15 episode "Atomic Monsters" defines the purpose of the season as a whole, particularly the exchange between Chuck and Becky. Chuck for all intents and purposes serves the metaphorical role of the writers, directors, creator and just general individuals with power over the scripts, the story. Becky stands in for the fans, sometimes chaotic (as seen in the past) but ultimately well intendtioned and in love with these characters and this universe. Chuck wants to end things in poetic tragedy while Becky wants the boys to finally find happiness after all their struggles. And Becky, being a fan, critiques his direction for the story. Chuck, the creative team, becomes frustrated with said critique and ultimately exerts his power over said story despite Becky's pleas. The entire season is a meta commentary on the creative process, Chuck - ie the writers - is unhinged. And therefore any seeming cohesion issues can be attributed to it. He can do whatever he wants. Is it lazy writing? Maybe. But its pre-established. And personally, focusing an entire episode on how frustrated Chuck is is the near perfect way of doing so. It's his domain, he is exerting his power over it, sense be damned. And the entire season is the Winchesters battle with breaking free of him - breaking free of the constant struggle the writers have put them through. It's the characters just trying to find their own agency outside of writers, outside of fans, outside of critics. And it's a beautiful concept. Supernatural has always been at its best when being meta and so making its final season one big allegory that isn't shy about being one is... brilliant I think. I don't have issue with Chuck's heel turn, especially with how fascinated he seemed with being the man behind the curtain watching and manipulating the narrative in the final scenes of "Swan Song' and "Fan Fiction." It also better explains how he was able to foretell what would happen while pretending to be a profit, because he is literally the one controlling the story, something season 11 does not address at all. I think it fits fairly well as a plot twist in retrospect. As you can probably tell by this point, I love season 15. As a once aspiring writer, who has partaken in studying the craft as well as being a part of discussion groups pertaining to it, it lands fairly well. It isn't perfect, nothing is. There are moments that feel out of place even with knowing about Chuck being pure chaos, creative decisions being suspect at best in our modern culture, there are moments that feel too fan-service centered and poorly weaved (although I agree, the fan service isn't overbearing even if there are moments that could have used it), and from the final half of episode 19 all the way through the finale I believe they fumbled incredibly as so many fans do. But overall I feel it's a success, and, dare I say I find it better then season 5 as a send off. It's one of my favorites. Edit: This video shockingly summed up almost all of my praises/criticisms of season 15 and the series finale in-particular extremely well. Just wanted to give her a shoutout for an excellent deconstruction. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rHEitiHTBeQ.html

Same, imo this season is beautifully unpredictable in the best way and the final twist in the season finale comes out of the blue but if we look back it has been foreshadowed all along because so many characters in the show go on about how unforgiving and cruel God is but when he was onscreen he was just a whacky dude until then.

Personally, I don’t think any season of Supernatural is overall bad, at least not when it focuses on the arc of the season, but the monster of the week episodes drag otherwise good seasons down. The later seasons actually have better monster of the week episodes, which is why I think the last 3-5 seasons are better than the previous 5 seasons, not counting the original 5 seasons. I wouldn’t say they’re worse since they add alot of stuff I actually like, but they’re not better than the first 5 seasons either. Honestly, each season adds something to the lore I like, like Purgatory or the Darkness being a better person than God himself, but they’re not better than the first 5 seasons

Contemplating my overall thoughts of Supernatural and it just baffles me how big it got, and still is. I mean Season 1 was your ordinary WB teen drama not unlike Dawson’s Creek or 90210, just with an added flavor of ghost hunting. And those shows were influential in their own right but their cultural significance mostly stayed confined to the early 2000s. Supernatural, however, has permanently cemented itself in the zeitgeist for perhaps the rest of the century. Supernatural is associated with almost everything now. Flannel shirts and trench coats are now cosplay; the ‘67 Chevy Impala, considered worthless scrap metal before is now a collectors item, lines of dialogue that are quoted the world over, “ Hey Assbut, Balls, Idgit, Hello Boys, So Get This, Jerk; Bitch,” the list goes on forever. Hell this is the second property to popularize the line, “I’m Batman!” All this from a CW show that was green lit in the aftermath of the character drama boom made possible by Lost’s popularity. There were highs and lows, and there were deep dark chasms that sucked out all joy in the world, but it, and Eric Kripke, left their impact on the world. And also Jared and Jensen. Most actors would kill for a career defining character, and i don’t think they’ll be walking away from Sam and Dean for, say the rest of their lives. Alright, out of thoughts. Everyone go on with your lives, nothing to see here!

Michael was his dark mirror, knowing what Dean really wanted and taunting him with it. Dean had to face Michael to fully be himself. And all the hermetical clues and lore that was woven into the later seasons is just *chef's kiss*. They practically painted God as the Demiurge which was so so good.

I've been looking forward to this video for a while. I have a few things to say/type. 1. I thought the style of Season 5's title card was to represent Sam's struggle with his Demon Blood addiction. Sure Season 4 is when it 1st gets brought up, but he didn't really deal with being addicted to it, and such until Season 5. B. An angel leaving behind some of his/her grace has been mentioned in the show 2 times that I remember. The 1st time was in Season 5 Episode 3 when Castiel, and Dean went after Raphael. Then it was brought up again in Season 9 Episode 11 when Sam and Cas are trying to find a way to track down Gadreel.

This was really well done man. Congrats on finishing your series of reviews. I see now why you said we had very "different opinions" of these seasons. I can definitely see where you are coming from when it comes to unique and different ideas in these seasons. While I definitely feel they were alot better in concept than they were in execution, they tried ... they tried lol. I'll honestly never forgive the Gabrielle retcon. Great points about the retcon's from Carver era. I honestly can't remember those seasons at all so I'm interested what I will find when I start reviewing those next. Gabrielle's retcon was just ... so pointless to me. Because in the end, it ended the exact same way. It also unintentionally damages one of the best moments (and there are tons of them) from Season 5. At least we agree for the most part on S15. Unity was great, Despair was ... not so much to me. Either way, I really think this was a great video! Congrats again. I know I mentioned it when you featured some of my Kim Manner's video, but I was in London at the time and totally forgot to follow up. If you were ever up for a collab video / discussion, I would absolutely be up for it. Like my videos with Jade, having opposing but open minds always leads to a great conversation!

I wanna add to the 'reapers getting possessed by demons' thing. It is important to note that the only time we see this done is with a Prince of Hell. We see the princes overpowering angels all the time. Like Dagon vs Castiel. So Azazel possessing Tessa wasn't totally as outrageous. Also Crowley went into Sam that one time when he was possessed by Gadreel. Maybe I'm just covering for bad writing idk, but it makes sense to me.

Plus Demons don't need permission to enter someone's body. Even Crowley says at some point that they take want they want
@kreedi7758

Also note, Azazel was only allowed to possess Reaper Tessa after the demon deal was struck between him and John. And from season 2, we know that Demons can go beyond their limits to a degree when striking a deal. That's my thought process though.

56:19 the thing with purgatory is, sure there were ways to get to purgatory, but crowley and castiel were looking for a way that would allow them to take/absorb the souls there and not just get phisically there. It still works for me.

I'm liking it this time around. - really like Rowena now. - really liked the idea of Sam becoming a leader in season 12 but that was short lived. They should have played more around that, along with him using spells. - I like that Sam and Dean don't fight and are mostly close.

Jack's inclusion was the biggest mistake they'd made and the rest of the series was less good for me as a result. this is definitely the most frustrating era of the show for me. the writing in the final season is what ruins the show for me (and Supernatural itself is fantastic but the decisions the writers ended up making made no sense and it honestly really infuriates me to know that that was how they chose to honor the show during its final run). none of these final 4 seasons really feel like they do the show any justice… with how many times all of these episodes go from good to okay to bad in a matter of 2 or 3 episodes is just very messy. and Jack is a character that i absolutely adore but unfortunately he doesn’t save seasons 13-15… they tend to do so much yet so little at the same time…and despite Sam being my favorite character, Dean was such a lovable character and the writers did Jensen SO DIRTY by making him act totally out of character after season 12…imo the cast deserved better and so did the fans.

I really enjoyed watching your Supernatural Retrospective series! While I didn't always agree with everything that you were saying, it was definitely nice to hear another perspective. I gotta say tho', up until this particular video, I really hated seasons 12 through 14, but you managed to convince me that they weren't that bad, actually. I don't know how you do it, but something about how you explain things has me absolutely hooked. So I have an idea about your future videos. I always loved Lucifer, especially in season 5, and it always fascinated me how connected he and Sam really were, more than Dean and Michael could ever be. I'm still really sad how they just dropped all Lucifer's previous depth (like his reluctance to kill his own brothers; if you actually read the scripts for some of the episodes in season 5 with Lucifer in them, you can see he actually didn't want the Apocalypse to happen, as was finally established in ''Swan Song'', and even sympathized with the people that were sacrificed for the Horsemen in ''Abandon All Hope...") and completely ignored his bond with Sam, turning him into a goofball and a comedic relief character; his relationship with Sam was one of the things that interested me the most in the show. That being said, I would love to hear your perspective on Lucifer and Sam; what you liked and didn't like in how Lucifer was handled in later seasons and how you would've done it; maybe your thoughts on Hallucifer? Idk, just throwing ideas here as it's one topic (Lucifer) I don't see other Supernatural youtubers make videos about (which is sad). Also, I'm absolutely looking forward to your video(s?) about ''The Winchesters''!! ❤‍🔥❤‍🔥❤‍🔥

I think my biggest beef was how awful some elements of the finale seasons were after 11. Like, I was so surprised the Apocalypse angels would put Adam in a room with Mary that they could easily escape, like, the ONLY room he could escape. It seemed like a trick, and it wasn't, and I was absolutely devasted that the villains would be that stupid. Similarly, the show becomes all about the "dads" of the show raising their mini-god, while Chuck becomes a homicidal fanboy after a season where he was willing to "kill" himself or trap himself for eternity - its like, where's his love for creation he was weeping to Amara about? Lol.

For me Supernatural is as follows. Seasons 1-5: Amazing TV, great seasonal storylines, some amazing episodes, stakes are real and believable Seasons 6-10: Still very strong TV. Seasonal arcs/villains are still pretty strong, but the stakes don't feel quite as real, but still really enjoyable Seasons 11-15: Very hit and miss with a few standout episodes, but Seasonal arcs are pretty weak, lousy send off for Crowley, stakes really don't feel real (I mean, seriously, the Boys vs. Actual God, or God's "sister" ?????). I really appreciate your videos especially as someone who got into spn late and finds it hard to get through it all and to sit through slow episodes/arcs I really don’t feel like I have a good grasp to be able to judge quality and especially to go by individual writers, it’s kinda shocking to me how many ppl in the fandom know the writers by name and remember or can just tell from the ep who wrote what. My thoughts on spn are biased for sure. Like you went through judging the intros by some kind of criteria and at the start without even remembering all the intros of the top of my head I was just like: s4 and s13 are best cos vibes and it’s the cas and jack intros and they’re the best characters lol. In the same way I never tried to find a justification for why I like later seasons but can’t sit through the middle seasons, outside of that I just love jack that much ig. But you actually made good points. I’m definitely curious what you think of the Winchesters, especially in the light of the latest ep and where it might go further from there. Outside of that I think it’s weird to give you suggestions since it’s things I’m interested in and idk If you have much to say about it to be worth making a video but cas and jack are my faves and so obvs I’d love a video about them. Maybe a video about the whole larger family dynamic and drama starting with john and mary (or even the grandparents) and ending with jack? So a video about the themes throughout the seasons maybe? Also I’m kinda surprised you’d specifically suggest a whole destiel video, by myself I’d never suggest it cos the topic’s controversial and I wouldn’t think ppl who don’t ship it have a lot to say about it but if you have an idea for a video then ig go for it. Unless you do decide to make a whole long-ass video on all the family dynamics and then it’d just be a part of it?

I personally don’t hate Mary, she died for 33 years and came back to life to find everything she ever wanted gone to hell and never coming back, her husband’s dead, her kids were hunters and the normal life she wanted was gone, along with needing to adjust to a world that moved on without her and getting used to the modern era and all the new things that happened or were made since she died. Even her working for the BMoL isn’t that bad, since Sam was working with them too, so why are people blaming Mary and saying she’s a bad person if Sam’s doing the same thing, and he was the one tortured? Sam and Dean really needed to understand that Mary isn’t the perfect mom or person they thought she was, she’s human and makes mistakes, but they’ve made bigger, nearly world ending mistakes, and they get angry she’s working with the Brits? They’ve worked with demons and Lucifer himself, literally as recent as the previous season Edit: I understand wanting more in season 15, but COVID happened and they couldn’t do their original ending, they wanted to bring everyone who died back to the Roadhouse in Heaven, but they couldn’t because of quarantine and just how hard it would have been with the restrictions of COVID, which is understandable

I thought of this midway through your video before you said you were open to video suggestions, but I think it could be interesting to do a video or video series on various concepts for spin-offs or one-off movies inside of the Supernatural universe. When you were talking about the president stuff I was intrigued by the idea of how politics could be affected by the existence of, you know, everything the main universe's governments don't seem to be aware of. The Supernatural universe barely weighs into that at all, but the Supernatural version has this cool feature where almost every alternative mechanic could be made canon because of the alternate universe thing. A spin-off idea for Supernatural could be a more mature and more nuanced political drama of sorts exploring how politics would be affected (and maybe shaped) by the existence various Supernatural concepts. I'd imagine a show more like Suits or House of Cards where the internal politics between different beings and/or realms are shown as well as something in the original style that shows how society would be shaped by it. I suspect governments would try to establish some sort of special Supernatural status in the eyes of the public, as well as in the eyes of the various beings / realms, and it'd be very interesting to see how such a dynamic would form. The way to bridge the political aspect with the gritty realistic aspect would be with some sort of diplomatic Angel designated to Earth and having him talk to the various presidents and powerful parties of the world, as well as unbeknownst to those entities answering prayers of people living in the worst parts of the way the world has become. It could be cool to see him be regarded as a far superior authority by the world's political leaders and/or the public at first but have him slowly become more of an equal to them and eventually become even less because he doesn't have any explicitly defined legal authority over anything and various dealings are already being made over his head. Maybe he could actually start to get in trouble for secretly answering civilian prayers. Could also be cool to see how demons and by extension the authoritarian regime of Hell (maybe secretly) gain more political capital and status than Angels because they don't need permission to do shit, both possession-wise and philosophy-wise. I feel that good should be present on the side of Hell and bad should be present at the side of Heaven to make it more realistic, not necessarily as characters but as different aspects of their different natures. I really like the idea of morally strong and genuinely trustworthy Angels, but that philosophy wouldn't necessarily work in their favor politically speaking. It'd also be cool to see how technology advances too, but I've already gone way too deep as is. This is just one idea but you could do an entire series exploring alternate universes of Supernatural like this. It's unique content for sure.
