l remember this comercial and that pose l was 12yrs old and bought a poster at the record shop with them wearing those same gowns and Diana arms were raised and she was wearing a different wig. It was a black and white poster which l still have however it crumbled with age but l still have it in plastic in a atasche case. l was in love with Diana Ross at all 12yrs old 😄
I had the same poster in my room l bought it at a department store where the records were in 1969 and had it till 1973 it disappeared when we moved l loved that iconic poster ❤❤❤
Yes, Mary was so much prettier than Diane, but this was the beginning of Motown's big push to make Diane the star; Flo had just been dismissed and was replaced by Cindy who was just starting with the group then.
This is one of the last iconic VIDEOS of The Supremes that has not, until now, been discovered. I'm happy to finally be able to see it again after nearly 50 years, but sad that there is so little left to be rediscovered. Thanks for finding and posting this rare gem!
This is NOT The Supremes, but Diana Ross and The Supremes, Flo Ballard of The Supremes was replaced by Cindy Birdsong in this add. No Flo No The Iconic Supremes Get it right boo
ramona2400ricky I am WELL aware of the various incarnations of the legendary trio AND who was in the trio during the different periods; however, the public ALWAYS referred to them as THE SUPREMES regardless of what incarnation they happened to be in. Only disc jockeys, announcers, and Motown CD re-releases who had to honor contracts EVER called them Diana Ross and The Supremes. Today, you can tell someone's age by how they refer to them. The people who were of a certain age during the reign of The Supremes call them just that. Younger people, who came after the Supremes' time on the record charts call them Diana Ross and The Supremes. I am the first person to acknowledge that, without Flo and HDH, the magic was gone for The Supremes; however, I refuse to call them anything other than THE SUPREMES even though I am VERY aware of how and when the name was changed..........I'm also aware of, when they finally got rid of Diane, the name was changed back to The Supremes. Don't worry..........we're both coming from the same place!
I was about 10 when this commercial came out. I juse loved THE SUPREMES. All of these ladies made it possible for all other music act to come after and enjoy the fruits of the labor. When you think about The Supremes along with The Temptations were the first Black group to host a hour long special on a major network like NBC. Give The Supremes their props and that was back in the 60's. You could say that was the pre HBO special.
Groundbreaking ad for the time. It was rare to see blacks featured in advertising for national companies back then. There probably is a film of the full performance somewhere. That would be cool to see!
WOW......I have wanted to see that commercial forever....when u was young I taped it but my father taped over it....its s nice to hear and to see ROCK AND ROLL ROYALTY...do there thing 48 years ago.....they r so pretty......thanks John.
You could tell they were clearly separating Diana from the other two already. Listen to the narrator. He does it twice: Diana Ross (break) and The Supremes. No doubt he was instructed by Motown and/or Berry Gordy to do that.
LMAO......Specially when the "STENCH" of backstabbing, conning, conniving actions of Diane Ross towards THE SUPREMES is beyond the capabilities of being suppressed by any deodorant including "Arrid" An EXORCISM on her would have help! Lol....Holly Water would burned her like acid!
TWTR4EVER If you hate Miss Ross so much then why are you following her every move on RU-vid ? you want to be a beautiful woman and talented Superstar like Diana Ross!
Because he is a freaking sick ass sociopath. It would be like you or I going on ESPN bashing football and its players. I don't give a hooty tooty flying fuck about football, but you don't see me on blogs for it bashing the players
When I went to see The Wiz, I was shocked that the most glamorous woman in the world looked like that! And actually had perspiration showing underneath her arm during a dance. Now of course, I realize she played the character of Dorothy flawlessly. But at the time I was so surprised that the glamorous Diana Ross I knew wasn't even in that movie.
