@angiepanjie I was born the same year but in Sheffield, England and according to my mother my " rock out" song was " Woolly Bully" by Sam the Sham and The Pharaohs 😂. I used to go so crazy as a 2 and 3 yr old she was forced to buy the record for me. It was my first record, but we always had the Supremes playing in the house and years later when I was 17 I bought a 4 record anthology album and when I played it all my early years ( before 5 yrs old) came flashing back.
I’m only 12 my mom listens to this song so as my nana she now has cancer and everytime I see her I sing this song to her it makes her heart melt. God bless this song
As great as the Supremes were, they are not the first. The Shirelles are from 1957 and the Bluebelle were contemporary with Supremes including Cindy Birdsong!
Don't forget about the chordettes who were stars in the 50s, and the ronnettes were also contemporary with supremes, they only formed 1 year after the supremes did
Diana Ross was known as one of the top 10 most beautiful women of her day. This was in the 60's. Diana and the Supremes broke ground, paved it with their talent. They helped to build bridges, not shatter them. The Supremes will always be an inspiration to me, as a kid, in an alley, listening to a radio, at 11 years old, loving their voices.
I was born in the 70's but my father listens a lot to The Supremes, The Drifters, Patty Page, Engelbert Humperdick, Frank Sinatra so I know most of their songs and guess what it is what I prefer to listen...an era whe music is a proper music:)
As I write this, Lamont Dozier has passed away at age 81. My heart is heavy and I feel immense loss, but will be forever grateful for his beautiful songs and the mark that he left in the world of music. Rest on Lamont! They don't make 'em like you anymore!! Music wouldn't be the same without you!!!!
Same here, Detroit 1962. Motown and especially the Supremes were a constant in our house growing up in white suburbia. Always been grateful to my parents for raising us listening to this brilliant music. Love you Mary, Flo, and Diana!
This was a great era to grow up in. The cars, the music, the news when it told the truth, leaders who respected each other, safe schools, when kids could be kids, family times, television with 13 channels, but those few channels had more variety and talent than the 200, 300 or whatever is out there today, and of course, The Supremes. Baby, I Loved It!
Picture your self way back into time with head phones late at night listening to the great A,M, RADIO falling alseep with DIANA ROSS AND THE Supremes singing their hearts out I MISS those days in the 60s and70s
Almost everyone has heard at least part of "The Nutcracker Suite," so they grew up listening to "real" music too. There there's the Kingston Trio, and the late, great Eva Cassidy, and The Glen Miller Orchestra playing "Chattanooga Choo Choo" in the film, "Sun Valley Serenade." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V2aj0zhXlLA.html There's nothing better than that. And what would the Supremes have been without the groundbreaking of Dorothy Dandridge who appears in the last segment? She was the real deal a whole generation earlier.
You are so right here I am in the south west of France with my glass of rosè listening to all these old songs , taking me back to a more easy way of living , santė à toi et everyone else
1960-2018 That's a very good song, baby love 😊👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶👶💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💖💖💖💖💖💕💕💕💕 Beautiful. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This was the first time I saw them on television in the fall of 1964.Later they sang another song"Come See About Me."It became a their 3rd #1 hit.I wish that video would come back.
I first heard these supreme talented ladies sing in 1966....The song was I Hear A Symphony" I have never stopped listening since. They have such class! Thank you so much for the video, just made my day
On this day in 1964 {November 18th} the Supremes performed their second and third #1 records, "Baby Love" and "Come See About Me", on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... "Baby Love" also reached #1 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart and in the U.K.; while "Come See About Me" made #1 in Canada and #3 on the R&B Singles chart... R.I.P. Ms. Ballard {1943 - 1976} and Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013}...
The Supremes on Shindig. This was the first time I saw them on television in November of 1964."Baby Love" had reached it's peak at #1 and was moving back down on the charts.Later in this program they sang "Come See About Me".which became their 3rd consecutive #1 hit after this one and "Where Did Our Love Go?".After this they went straight up like a rocket.
This song is so beautiful and special to me.😭🥰 Mi grandma loves this song; and she’s my favorite human being, so I love it too. I cry every time I listen to this song! 💘❤️
There not the most successful female group of all time anymore, they had a great run tho. The top 10 are 1. Spice Girls, 2. The Andrews Sisters, 3. TLC, 4. Destiny's Child, 5. AKB48, 6. The Pussycat Dolls, 7. Bananarama, 8. The Pointer Sisters, 9. The Nolans, 10. The Supremes, and that list is worldwide and based off sales. But in my opinion i would put them at #1 also, just because i like there songs more that the others, well i like TLC too but id put them at #2.
@@Charizarzar Well i looked up her name and she was depressed about not singing anymore and it was so bad it led her to commit suicide. I've never heard of a heart attack.
I'm only 13 years old, but I grew up listening to the supremes, the crystals etc all because of my childminder whose looked after me all these years and I'm eternally grateful for what she has done for me. In my own opinion I much prefer the music back in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I don't know why I love these bands so much, but if I had to guess it would be because I grew up in a loving environment surrounded by music.
You're lucky to have that opinion about music, and to have a musical upbringing. I recommend you dig into The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder and The Doors...some of my favorite 60s-70s artists.
I don't have to dig into that music.....................I have lived it for 50 years! I'm glad that you are just discovering those wonderful musical icons! There is so much out there for you discover...............enjoy!!
♪♫ This Day in Music: August 13, 1964 - The Supremes recorded “Baby Love”, written and produced by Motown's main production team Holland-Dozier-Holland, the song went on to be the group's first UK No.1 and second US chart topper. It was also the second of five Supremes songs in a row to go to No.1 in the United States. ♪♫
Florence...wow! So regal and elegant here, visually, she really stands out in this video! Mr. Gordy could have easily turned her into a solo star as well, but he and Flo had an unfortunate falling out.
Motherfucking Maki Me too, I thought she added so much additional appeal to the group. She did get a $50,000 settlement a year before she died from a blood clot, but all those years of depression and poverty took a terrible toll on her.
Malcolm Marshall Mr Gordy was also pushing for Ms. Ross to become the lead. But Flo did look happy and beautiful here. Your words of regal and elegant were perfect descriptions. Always loved the Supremes
the Supremes were the most commercially successful of Motown's acts and are, to date, America's most successful vocal group[2] with 12 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
Surely one of, if not THE best pop record ever recorded? Never gets old and gives me goose bumps every single time I hear it, what a wonderful piece of work.
To each his own. I didn't make it past 1:29. I think it was the scary hair-dos, and hearing yet again that compared to the other two ladies, Diana's voice was annoyingly nasal such that I always wondered how she always had the lead. I suppose her appeal was more about her inflection than the actual tonal quality of her voice.
#THESUPREMES #BABYLOVE. The Supremes were #DianaRoss #FlorenceBallard #MaryWilson. Without a doubt, one of the finest female trios in music. The early success of the group helped make #MotownRecords into a music powerhouse. They sang beautifully and we're always so well dressed. The harmonies were exceptional 😄👍👍👍🎸🎹🥁🎻🪘🪗🎸🎺🎷💙💚💝🧡❤️💖💜🔥🔥🔥
i am 46 years old male and i listen to heavy metal and rock music .. with that being said , this is such a great song. nothing beats music with real vocals and real instruments
Man, The Supremes. Take me back, why don't u!!! My grand daughters surely know who they r, my mommy bought me my 1st LP ( Diana Ross & the Supremes) Still have it... Thx Chris 4 the memories right now......Besos
This was one of my alltime favorite songs. The summer of 1964, a crazy time in the U.S. but the Supremes made it cool! I listened to this song over and over that summer.
What has happened to modern music, this incredible Motown classic is getting on for fifty years old, and it still sounds incredible. Few songs written today will have the same impact in 2065.
Peter Lewis for every classic song theres disco duck, the only reason the oldies seem soo golden is because only the good music stood the test of time, now theres plenty good music but its all underground or at least not on the radio, but that shit wont last like good music does
Peter Lewis music is aimed for kids now, so they get some teenager to preform. no kids are going to by music with grown people now singing about real things.
Oh that is great! I know what you're saying is true. I did get to spend some "up close" time with Mary in New York Summer of 2011 and she looked gorgeous up close (in my arms LOL) and up on stage. She keeps the Original Supremes legacy alive in concert and in her gowns exhibit. I am proud of her.
I love this song! I always sing this to my cat when he starts scratching on my door and wants to leave me. Instead of “baby love” I use “baby boy” sometimes it works and he actually comes back! “Baby boy, my baby boy, I need you oh how I need you But all you do is treat me bad Break my heart and leave me sad”
I grew up with this music and The Supremes have had More No 1 Hits than most people have had McDonald's Burgers. Tony Amore Classical Pianist and Artist from Stoke, England.
My Baby Love my Baby Love.....💃🕺🎶' it's for you 😉🤗😘🍀🌈🕊💫with all my Heart 👩❤️💋👨💕💕💕💕. So beautiful Love Song 😍❤🙏Love is All, Love is the Key 🗝 thanks for sharing this wonderful Song 💫💖💫
