This band is one that brings back so many memories. I was just a kid when my Uncle played this song one day and for some reason I never forgot it . It was so damn good and raw!! My uncle and I still listen to it at family get together,s today!! We love the Surfaris and we play them in our family band!!!
What many people don't realize... This was the "Side A" song.. Wipeout was the "Side B" song. When this debuted, a DJ flipped the 45, and played the "B Side"; and as they say: "the rest is history"! :) I dig this tune, even if it is kind of "dorky".
So many people just play the "hit" side of the 45, never playing the flip side. There are a LOT of gems on the flip sides or even albums. I grew up on FM radio. I always thought when I grew up, I'd have a stereo and all. Well, the Internet changed those plans. Now, I feel that radio is nothing more than a "child's toy".
Lot of sour comment's. Its one of the most beautiful things you could to do with your son regardless of talent. The people there loved it❤❤❤ from a dad.
The original singer had more of a Buddy Holly vibe. This guy obviously doesn't, but it nice that they try to keep the music alive. 100% agree with the Monster Mash comment!
The lead singer butchered this song, but then again his mic and amp aren't set up with a pleasant tone. Sounds like he's singing on the Barbie Karaoke machine.
I can't understand why Bob keeps saying that he wrote all these songs, he was ONE of the band members that wrote them , not the only one. And his son can't sing that song.
Yea, not sure. When you listen carefully, after he mentions the Safaris and 1962, he says "wrote Wipe Out, Surfer Joe," etc. He doesn't quite say "I wrote." All band members are credited. If I'm remembering correctly I think it just says The Surfaris on the record as composers.
So, were the songs written more by the whole band mainly? Or did Ron Wilson, the drummer and singer actually write most of their tunes? I am a huge fan, my surf/punk band SDU, actually covers this song, & also "Hot Ride High." I am a big fan of Ron, what a great drummer/singer.
