This is honestly such an underrated game. I agree with everything you've said here, particularly about the level design and constantly getting that rush of excitement when you unlock a shortcut and find yourself in a place you've been before. It's a real shame barely anybody has played it cause it's easily the best non-Souls Souls game besides Nioh 2.

What's so great about nioh 2? I played th first one, was enjoying it and got stuck on an electric boss and moved on. Is it worth playing after elden rings release?

@@MILDMONSTER1234 *best combat of any game ever +top notch character creation +insane character development +tons of content it starts slow like a true souls-like and slowly progresses into an action rpg with the most complex combo system you'll ever see in any games. takes a while to truly understand and apreciate it though. and its certainly not for everyone. game is hardcore. nioh 2 is one of the very very few games i would call a masterpiece.

Have you tried out Bleak Faith Forsaken yet? It had a rough launch but majority of bugs have been patched out now and imo it's the most intriguing and unique game world since the original Dark Souls. It has such a complex and intricate level design, I would call it a metroidvania with Dark Souls inspired combat mechanics.

Playing it now for the first time. It’s quite fun. I miss co-op. And battles is a bit too clumsy and flimsy for my taste. But I’ll play as long as it’s fun. :)

Started playing two weeks ago, and after finishing it again in NG+ I say The Surge 2 is a great improvement next to the original game, in many aspects. It can be a little glitchy and buggy, but if you enjoyed the original, you'll certainly like this one as well. You do need a machine with better specs to run it flawlessly, the original game was more forgiving towards more crappy machines, though.

I loved the first surge. Played the hell outve it.. I couldnt even finish 2! it juat wasnt as good, and somehow broke the lighting engine.

I'm going through The Surge 2 at the moment and loving it... I recently finished Surge 1 and loved that one as well. Hands down best Soulslike outside of FromSoft..

Problem with souls clones is that they don't understand the formula at all. they copy/paste mechanics and that's it. this world is boring asf, story is trash, world feels like normal city in america during blm parade it just doesn't have that atmosphere... at least first Surge tried.

Problem with FromSoftware dick riders is that they can't live with the idea that other people might have a different opinion than whatever stinky nonsense they pulled out of their arsehole. Also can't seem to stay away from stuff they don't like. Always have to share their r3tarded and unsolicited opinion with everybody, especially those who don't care about it. And before you say something else even dumber(if that's humanly possible), Bloodborne and Sekiro are amongst my favorite games so I have no beef with FS. Just with m0r0nic fanboys like you Go back to jerking off to your Miyazaki shrine and keep quiet

Real talk, I'm not here for the lore It can stay. But real talk, I'm here for the combat. If the combat is solid, I'm in. Nuff sed haha And The Surge is right up there in that regard (for me)
