Fairness is a fundamental concept for all people and most games do not treat their players fairly, especially if they're very popular. But Fallout 76 is surprisingly equal, especially for an online multiplayer game.
Thanks to Bethesda for the review key. For more information on the game see game.page/fall.... All opinions are the author's.

This has been a great video. It perfectly describes the Fallout 76 system, and its explains why so many people keep returning or just going to the game. Hell its one of the many reasons why I keep returning. The fairness of the game and the complete lack of aggressively pushed Pay to Win systems that other online games have makes it so much better. In addition to the absolutely wonderful community the game has, its incredibly kind and generous to both old and new players alike. Compared to other games, I have only met ONE person in 76 that was horrid. Compared to the dozens I find in others.

Good video essay. IMO Fallout 76 is fair by accident, not by design. From the beginning players have pushed back hard against any pay to win micro transactions. Bethesda makes its live service money by selling skins and camp items. If camp items and skins were not profitable Bethesda might have gone down the pay to win PVP rabbit hole.

i have to agree 100% ! now you really do need to pay for fallout 1st to make the game more enjoyable. otherwise you spend more time managing your scrap box and grinding resources because you had to sell or give them away to make room. as well without a tent you might have to spend a half hour to find a place to scrap your guns after an event.

I just bulk up all my junk and sell it at a vendor, or go to the Whitesprings station and put everything I don't need into the shared stash box. Hell, I've even started putting legendaries in there because I've maxed out the legendary exchange 🤣 So yes, there's an element of inventory management, but so long as you're generous and don't get precious about stuff, it's not that arduous.
@darkspawn5507
@darkspawn5507 6 месяцев назад
You’re objectively wrong my friend. The micro transactions in 76 are NOT pay to win. They’re pay for convenience. No amount of money will give you an advantage over another player, or even the game itself. Furthermore, how would you expect Bethesda to keep the servers running and paying developers, WITHOUT selling camp items, and skins? All of which don’t give you an advantage. That’s the only way a game survives, this is basic business and economic concepts 🤷🏻‍♂️ Edit: I misread your OP, so I’ll respond to the point you were making. The evidence shows that Bethesda didn’t want to put pay to win into the game, which is why the system that exists now is there. There is no “accident” in business, it’s the model they CHOSE to implement
@flyshy8806

I have to dissagree that it's fair by accident, as this was no accident!! We, the fair players, all fighted our part against these p2w stuff. (Even tho there were 100's of players who wanted a nba2k bs) This is all vecause of the hard work of fair people, that we got a fair game. unlike gta5, if you know your gta5 history. And i and all the others would do it all over again because a fairgame can be challenging, can be profitable, and can have a fair in-game market. (Even although a fair market still lacks. No worries, tho, that'll change with time. 👍) May karma be with you. 😊❤️

One thing I would semi argue is that technically there are Atom shop items that can be considered pay to win such as camp items that give junk. But at the end of the day it's more of a quality of life thing, and one can get more by actually playing which is one more reason this game is awesome.

Having tons of scrap doesn't make it pay to win let alone pay for it. I wouldn't argue on Ammo/scrap box as it won't make you better at the game. Great explanation! I don’t under people blowing everything up or one shotting during radiation rumble, uranium fever, or moonshine jamboree. I get if there’s only a couple of players at the event, then some stronger guns are needed. However, if you see there are a lot of people in an event, pull out a weaker gun and let everyone get there shots in 🤷🏻‍♂️ I use an AA25 handmade and a plasma flamer. The 40,000 caps max is another tool that promotes equality. Other games, such as ESO, have uncontrolled inflation, which makes things daunting for new players. By limiting the amount of currency players can accumulate, the game prevents an inflationary economy AND encourages spending, rather than saving.
@SequentialGamerFallout

The only things that the Atom microcurrency can get you in terms of anything close to Pay-2-Win are CAMP items that generate consumables like food or ammo, but simply playing the SCOREBOARDs seasonals gets you those to a degree. And even then, the game rewards you this microcurrency at a rather generous rate in the beginning - so a frugulous player can simply hoard their Atoms for when these CAMP items become available via the in-game ATOM shop. It really is a surprisingly fair system - and def smt I never expected from Bethesda, considering their.... dubious behaviour involving a half dozen Skyrim re-releases...

Exactly the reason why I enjoyed the game when I got it. Fallout 76 is been filled with a lot of great people compared to other online games I've played plus there's a lot of incentive to work together rather than against each other. @DeaconBlues117
@DeaconBlues117 6 месяцев назад
Those incentives to work together were partly the result of the player base. Initially, the devs thought we'd be doing a "war of all against all", where people would actually enjoy forced PvP and the main way of gaining power would be by removing it from another player's corpse. Turned out that while there was a vocal minority that _did_ enjoy that, most players hated it. About four months in, the devs declared the Forest region off-limits for nukes, and then they made the PvP system non-functional below level 5 and opt-in after that (as it, if you want PvP you have to go into the Settings menu and manually turn it on). That has real-world implications too; we've seen in the wake of disasters around the world where, rather than trying to loot and kill each other for resources, people start to cooperate and work together to survive. Even for those of us who are extreme introverts, we are a social species - we evolved to become the world's dominant species by forming tribes and civilizations, not by dog-eat-dog infighting.

Even better, you have the choice. You can still start a new character at level 1 if you enjoy the challenge; if you just want to get to it, you can start at level 20 with a preselected build. And now even the new toons start out with a full set of leather armor and a weapon (which amuses me, because up until that update you started with just one piece of armor and had to loot your first gun from the Responder corpse outside the Vault; there was a note from one of the security people bemoaning the fact that they weren't allowed to just equip everyone leaving the Vault. Now there's a note from that guard explaining that they don't care, they're going to violate procedure and give you a 10mm and some armor).

Toxic atmospheres are why I HATED multiplayer games. Until I discovered Fallout 76. Now I keep going back. I managed to make a nice little place for myself in the game as a discount plan merchant. If you see a camp titled "Fort Weyr" or "Benden Weyr" those are mine. I mark resource shipments down to half and have a lot of ten cap plans and five cap food and aid. I do have a few things marked up to a few hundred caps. But I've yet to sell anything for over a grand. And I'm pretty sure I've never sold any single item for more than 500 caps (a three star quad cryolator I got from fasnact if you're curious what it was.) I've put together a lot of resource objects and carryweight perks, as well as perks like green thumb or butcher's bounty to ensure that food is never an issue, so I can afford to share. The only thing I really go ape over is if I die and someone takes my queen or other end game boss drops. For newbies, there are three end game bosses which drop stabilized flux. The Scorchbeast Queen, the Ultracite Titan and the Wendigo Collosus. They will only appear if you fire a nuclear bomb from one of the silos into a particular area of the map. There's some variation possible, so it doesn't have to be exact. The most dangerous IMO is the collosus, though many will cite the queen. The collosus is more disorienting. Sure the queen can blind you and send her minions after you, sure she's larger than most buildings in the game, but the collosus will force you to turn and run with a debuf attack, which makes fighting it disorienting. And it mostly appears in the Monongah mine, (sometimes there's a spawn point in the bog with a teeny tiny chance of it spawning) so its dark when you fight it. Its very easy to use up all your ammo trying to kill it. I've seen it happen. But it's also not unusual for players to not make it out of the collapsing mine and die (and thus get less loot) because they couldn't find the exit. You need a specific alcoholic beverage to counter the turn and run effect of the collosus; the Liquid Courage. And that is brewed from one of the collosus' drops. Plus, its spawning glowing wendigo spawns everywhere. Easy to spot in the dark. But also easy to get wrekt. The wendigo spawn drop a lot of screws and a lot of acid. So if you see a player being pokey in the collosus fight, its because they're after the drops from the spawns. The stabilized flux and improved repair kits the three bosses drop are extremely useful. Stabilized flux is used to create more advanced armor, weapon and power armor mods. My power armor's calibrated shocks required violet flux. The shielded mod for your vault suit requires cobalt flux. So you can understand why if I die and someone takes my boss drops, I bust out the shotgun or chainsaw and go Resident Evil on their ass. The only other time I truly went psycho over my loot being picked up a guy in a pink brahmin costume picked the loot up after I slipped and fell off one of the watchtowers. We were in the forest. I tracked him clear to the northern end of the Savage Divide near Prickett's fort and had an orbital strike beacon ready to fuck up his camp when he logged out. Another ten seconds and I would have gone biblical on his camp. It just wasn't fair, I was overloaded and not wearing my power armor for the sake of manuverability up the fucking stairs on the watch tower. Lost my loot because of a fucking pratfall. The player seemd to realiize how badly he'd fucked up. So I'll teach you another secret. Two words. Furious. Chainsaw. The chainsaw is a very good way to kill big enemies like the deathclaw or sentry bot. And it's capable of completely THRASHING power armor. I've been on the recieving end a couple times, and each time my power armor broke in SECONDS. Think of it as a tank killer. PS: Pretty sure I passed you at one of those fasnact events. ;)

Every game has that kind of people that sell items, or sell some kind of service to carry you on certain raids or pvp triumphs,events ect...

The difference is that, due to how many players actively refuse to engage in pvp, there's really no "winning" in fo76. Sure, there's always people who will buy god rolls, but it doesn't give them any real advantage because it's a coop game. Most of the events share legendaries and loot equally, and the tagging system helps in those events that don't. I like to give newish players automatic tesla rifles so they can tag more enemies in events. I figure if everyone is enjoying themselves and getting rewarded for helping at events, then they'll keep playing and everyone wins.

I can't get past the insane jump heights. That will stop me from playing the game. The emphasis in this game seems to be building, which definitely is easier if you pay more. You guys may have ruined Fallout for me. No offence.

Hmm, it's a shame to hear that .. mutations like the one that lets you jump high are really nice to have.

The game is ruined for you because people can jump really high with jetpacks or the Marsupial mutation? Am I understanding this correctly?

Ah yes, the dreaded crash LOL.

@ethan6437 I'm on PC and I've never had that happen, guessing you're on console? You might want to check if it stutters when you bring up the map .. that might mean that you don't have enough memory. Pausing a bit after bringing up the map might let the game stabilize.

@@SequentialGamerFallout yeah I had figured that if I just take my time when selecting menu options it won’t crash and I will look into that memory thing because I have downloaded a few games recently and I don’t think I’ve ever cleared any saved data that I don’t use anymore like I probably have 500 different character saves for Skyrim alone 😅

I think its really mosty fair to the lower level guys. Of course they try to get you with the 1st stuff which is like 10 a month which makes having more stash etc easier. I still think its kind of a steal but 10 a month isnt going to break the bank. That basketball game wants you to spend hundreds.

That's still £100 a year to fix a problem that Bethesda created.

Yeah, FO76 and ESO both rely on limiting stash space to sell their monthly subscriptions. But luckily they only affect junk and components, so it's only a convenience thing.
@DeaconBlues117

@@SequentialGamerFallout Strictly convenience. I have two accounts, one with FO1 and one without. The only difference is that the free account has to spend a little bit more time on inventory management. Sir Rhosis is still running around with a Secret Service jetpack and a selection of three-star weapons (I'm quite fond of Vampire as a mod, especially my Vampire chainsaw).
