You may know that the paint scheme of our SB2C Helldiver is a tribute to aircraft that operated off the USS Franklin (CV-13), but you may not know the incredible story of the Franklin's survival that started #OTD in 1945. Do you know what eventually became of the Franklin?

When I was about 13, I saw the USS Franklin docked at the Brooklyn Naval Yard about 1966. Whenever my family crossed the Williamsburg bridge between Brooklyn and Manhattan, I admired the ship, but I was not aware it was the Franklin. She had been completely repaired and still had her WW2 Essex class carrier look. We left Brooklyn later in 1966 and I found out she was scrapped.

I had seen as a kid the images of the burning Franklin from re-broadcast of "Victory at Sea". I thought for sure it sank. But I was not aware that it DID NOT SINK, but rather was towed back to the States.
