The Wii U was a flawed product, people didn't react badly to it just because of the bad marketing The games that actually tried to genuinely use the gamepad properly can be counted on your hands, and at some point even Nintendo gave up, even Minecraft for Wii U didn't use the gamepad as well as it should if i remember well The games that came on it are now either not needed remakes, or already on the switch in a WAY better version (remember Mario Kart with half of the current character roster, no battle mode and 32 circuits ? Yeah no way anyone is playing it over Deluxe) Don't get me wrong, most of my favorites switch games come from Wii U Era, but while it was a functional console, it wasn't as good as the switch, and i fell like people are remembering in a better light now solely because it was the last "real" Iwata and Reggie Era console, and because it software had more personality than whatever that Corporate Fiscal Year results looking ass thing the switch has as a User Interface
I enjoyed Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World (I only played it on someone else's Wii U), and Mario and Sonic (I forgot which). Mario Party 10 and New Super Mario Bros U were also fun. I also had some retros, like the DS and GBA ones.

Fun fact from my life, I had the wii u when I was about six or seven and instead of having Nintendo land as my package game I had Mario kart 8 as it instead.
If you had a Wii U and BoTW for the Wii U your only options for Switch games on release were Super Bomberman R, 1-2 Switch, and Snipperclips. I believe the 3rd Shovel Knight campaign was briefly released as an individual game on the Switch eshop.

I have the special edition Wii U with the Zelda Windwaker code! The system even had the pattern on the touch screen controller. So even though my Wii U "no games" it still "free game code"😅
i got a switch at christmas after its launch, and ended up selling it a few months later because of how little games there were on it. fast forward to 2020 and i couldn't afford a normal switch... now i'm stuck with a switch lite 💀
The Wii U had games it’s just that Nintendo forgot to mention that the Wii U had games. Reverse thing happened with the gamecube however which I find as pure irony.
