Some of the family singing some of their hits for a taping of an episode of Unsung "The Sylvers". Tyava Winborne - Olympia's daughter is singing lead. Family and friends make up the audience.
They sound IN-FREAKIN-CREDIBLE!!!!!! God Bless Them. The niece is a pefect addition to the group. No Pro-Tools, No Auto-Tune. Just pure soul and amazing harmony.
@Anthony Lynch what's that got to do with this video. IF NOT for the Jackson 5 , non of these family groups would have gotten the attention the got at the time. 1970's. STOP trying to tear down the achievments of the ones that came first.
She's got it honest. Isn't her daddy Stuart Bascombe from Black Ivory? (Side note: I've heard Charmaine's daughter sing, and she can blow as well. Sings harmony like she came out the womb doing it. Can't recall her name off top, but I follow her on IG.)
I'm ashamed to say that I just discovered the Sylvers and I'm beyond impressed with their harmony. I'm a new fan and would like to see them in person. I would also like for them to link up with some of my favorite producers like: Al B Sure, Brian Morgan, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, LA and Babyface, Teddy Riley and Full Force to make some great music. A collaboration with Take 6 would be great as well. For them to reemerge with an R&b flow (in my opinion) is much needed. Bring back old school R&b!!!
Chills still in 2020 ... Tyava, Olympia's daughter, singing lead is awesome ... talent runs hella deep in this family. Blessings in the 2020 to The Sylvers.
Man, i can listen to their acapella all day! When i first heard it on Unsung, i was like, they can put that out as a single itself on radio and it would sell, especially for get togethers, holiday barbecues, and weddings! In fact, im playing it at the Memorial Day cookout tomorrow, so thank you Sylvers family for this wonderful gift and i hope you get another chance to shine again
tight harmony by this family ... groups today are lacking this type real vocal ability they rely on auto tune and they all sound like crap the Sylvers set the standard for what a singing is suppose to sound like They didn't have to hide behind the music that's why I consider them to be the greatest harmonizers of all times
The niece singing continued the family tradition. Her voice is flawless, is on point, and she has a good range. That’s when you know people can sing when they harmonize well with no other music in the background.
Wow.... I am at a loss for words to describe how beautiful they sound together... I haven't heard harmony like this since Boyz II Men or Shai. I'm an 80's baby all day, but after watching the "Unsung" about The Sylvers on TV One today I have a new respect for 70's music.
Their harmonies and melodies cannot be compared. They were born to sing and their mother and father recognized their talent, nurtured and encouraged them. And behold, you have the Fabulous Sylvers!!!! PS. I love the way they stick together as a family
Baby… these harmonies… WHEW… they got it on lock. ALWAYS HAVE. Hands down The Sylvers are a better group. MJ as a singer cannot be touched and is in a class unto himself, BUT as a group nothing comes close to the harmonies by this group that are so sweet you’re transported to paradise the second you hear them. 💯
The Sylvers were a group of young people who had to sing their way to success because their father abandoned them, and it left them one or two choices, create music or die in the ghetto. Thank GOD they chose to create the soulful music that moves me to this day. Catch them on tv one's unsung.Forever yours!
Much of the crap that they call music nowadays couldn't hold a candle to this performance. I wish The Sylvers would go back in the studio and do an acapella album with this and other songs such as "That's What Love Is Made Of", "Even This Shall Pass Away" "Lovin' Me Back" etc. I'm quite sure that they will sound a little different but if they have that helluva spin like they put on "Forever Yours" then bring it!! This performance put them in a whole other class by themselves! Nothing short of perfection!
Breathtaking harmony.........This is so hauntingly beautiful!.......Just listening to it brought tears to my eyes and I'm a grown ass man of fifty!....This is how Angels in Heaven probably sound!
I grew up listening to the Silvers and I had an opportunity to meet Leon while a music education major at Norfolk State University. They still sound as good as the first time I heard them sing.
I am a 27 year old church boy in Virginia, and I admit I had never heard of The Sylvers until Unsung. The songs are AMAZING and seeing this just captivated me. They sound just as good if not better now than they did 40 years ago. I would love to hear new music from them, especially if it's like this. I love the complex harmonies, and ugh....I'm just in heaven listening to this. And when I played it for my dad, he looked at me like I was crazy, because I'd never heard of them.
"Wow!" is right! You just get lost in a daydream watching and hearing them sing it now. What melodic bliss! What a family. What a legend. What a treat it is to watch this. It's a beautiful song and a beautiful tribute to Edmond when they still do the song with the same amount of class and finesse. All I can say is, how blessed WE are to have been touched over the years and still today by this talented family. God gave them gifts and I'm sure that they have made Him very proud by singing for us.
I wonder if they know just how loved they are? The problem with some groups is that they go away because they think no one cares what kind of music they put out anymore and it's not true! This family is soooo loved in my home it not even funny! As you can see, True talent is can't stay down. It'll always surface when it's called upon. I just hope they know that the love we feel for them is as much now as it was when they came on the seen in the 70's. We love you Sylvers!
They just recently showed the Unsung episode again, a few days ago. i missed the first time it aired in 2011, they sure did go through a lot so sad what happened to Olympia. one day through God she will get her justice.
Sorry I had to watch it a 3rd time. Damn, I tried to hold it back but that was so beautiful I did cry. I cried like I lost my child. Ridiculously beautiful performance. I am so sorry that The Sylvers didnt get as much recognition as the Jacksons because it was well deserved. Much love and respect to you all.
Wow!!!! They still sound amazing. This was truly Unsung s BEST episode by far! To show Olympia at the end and this scene, almost brought tears to my eyes. I have to say as far as singing, they were alot better than my beloved Jackson 5.
The Sylvers, and the groups I listened to growing up are the reason I can harmonize and why I've always appreciated good harmony. The Sylvers, to me, were always under-rated and under appreciated. As evidenced by this video, they can STILL blow and it didn't matter which siblings sang together. All of them could SING!
I haven't heard another group in such unison! I've been Discovering different music from before my generation #90sbaby lol but I'm in AWE! Love Music and this is a 💎 to save
I am a BIG FAN of The Sylvers!! I was born in the 1960's and part of the 1970's music.I wish The Sylvers could Rerelase"Fool's Paradise" and go on tour to sing all of they're greatest hits...I would be there for that!! Oh, by the way, "Forever Yours" is my favorite songs you sang it so beautiful!!!
Thankful to TVOne for doing Unsung on the Sylvers. Love this family. The family still sound as beautiful as they did back in the day. I agree with WayneinSF, Tyava vocals are so beautiful and her uncle Edmund would be so proud. "Forever" Sylvers. God blessed them.
That was absolutely beautiful. Much respect to the entire Sylvers family. The legacy remains strong. Like many I've enjoyed their gifts for years and hope they will bless us once more soon with new music. Man those harmonys. R.I.P Mother Sylvers and Edmund and Chris.
No one made a sound until they were finished singing. They had everyone's UNDIVIDED attention. Man that harmony was SICK! My only wish is that they could've performed "P.S. (The Unfinished Letter)" acapella.Thank to God for this mega talented family!
This was so beautiful!! I remember seeing this on Unsung! Their life was so tumultuous and I hate they lost the siblings they did. I pray they are blessed and are all just living for the Lord. God bless them! Amazing gift!!!
I see Tyava trying to hold back tears as she sings....This song is more beautiful now than when it was first recorded and that is still one of my favorites of all time and also The Sylvers are not the Jacksons and shouldnt be compared to them...same with DeBarge
WOW!!! What a beautiful performance! Something Special was the very first cassette that I received. It was my Christmas present in 70's. Today's music business NEEDS THE SYLVERS...I need the Sylvers! Great to see the family together. I pray that Ricky and Foster are well and ready to do it the right way. Edmund is truly missed, but as long as you guys go on, he will be right there in spirit. Again...GREAT JOB!!!
NOBODY beats the Sylvers in tight and intricate harmonies, and for their age group when they did this you have to realize how phenomenal these kids had to be, and their mother leading the way! They did stuff the Carpenters could only achieve in the studio with massive overdubbing! They will ALWAYS be my favorite family group, along with The Emotions *(oooh, what a tour that would have been!!), and The Carpenters !! I sure hope there will be more recordings, even if there is no tour! PLEASE?!! I'm in!
MY GOD!!! Even though I saw that episode, this sounds BETTER than the original! Tyava, baby girl, you definitely have the Sylvers musical genes. To the family: if you ever see this post, know that your fans old & new love your dedication to your craft and wish that you would honor us with ONE MORE album (CD). It could be some a capella work as well as several new songs. You folks are the GREATEST natural harmonizers on the planet & we old schoolers miss y'all very much. Thanks Marvis for sharing this with us. My condolences on your losses but know that even though the industry didn't appreciate you, we STILL do. Oh and the title for the album could be: The Sylvers - The Return... Did you Miss Us?"
I so agree with you . He lead his sisters and brother to stardom even when they turn their backs on him he still looked out for them....... Beautiful. I am a new fan of the Sylvers music. I am blown away that they were able to create such beautiful at such young ages.... They shouldve been celebrated. But instead they slipped into obscurity... I hope that one day this beautiful will get their due. they more than deserve it. RIP Edmund Theodore Sylvers.....your talents are surely missed.
THAT was amazing! I remember hearing that song on the radio when I was getting into my teen yrs. It's a beautifully harmonic romantic song that I consider an all time classic. You should see the Sylvers singing 4part harmony when they were just past toddlers on the Groucho Marx show: You Bet Your Life. You'll see their mom credit their dad for teaching them to sing.
That was so dope I had to listen to it again. I bet Edmund is in heaven turning backflips right now. Olan's daughter really did this song justice. and her Uncles and aunties still sound damn good. mama Sylvers still got it too. God Bless Olan, Foster, Edmund and the rest of the Sylvers family
It looks like Pat May having been crying at the end. It must have felt special to see her niece step up and take the lead in that song. The blessings continue !! Love the Sylvers !!
LOVE this group. I listen to this version of the song everyday and am blown away by the harmonies!!! I would give anything to hear this released today. LEON YOU NEED TO COME SCHOOL THESE NEW CATS!!!!!!!!
Wow!! STILL truly amazing. Superb lead vocal and awesome harmonies!! Bought all of their recordings back in the day, and they will always be treasured and special to me. Love you, Sylvers, FOREVER!!
Their father taught them 4 part harmony when they were kids; Olympia was 7 and her siblings at the time were 6,5,4,3,1 and #7 was on the way. ( I saw it on " You Bet Your Life" ) Gifted and they Love The Lord Jesus Christ just as I do. 🙏🏾🖤
The Sylvers were so underrated as a group. Great songs with powerful lyrics, intricate harmonies that cant be duplicated and was a pure talent. This is simply beautiful. A 7 part harmony is perfect sync is amazing.
@MsTexas73 Me too. When this performance closed Unsung...it made me cry. This song always makes me think of Edmund who co-wrote this w/ Leon and did an amazing job on the vocals. After everything they still have that amazing harmony! They've given us great music together and apart...but together they are MAGIC. BTW,Olympia's daughter can sang and she seems really sweet. I wish them all the best!
I agree, the performace was heartwarming and ececuted with top notch skill. Very well done. I remember you back in the Angelo Drive days. You probably don;t remember that! I worked with Leon almost 12 years and always found it a treat to hear the family sing those six-part harmonies. God bless and give them all my best. ~Isaias Gamboa "Ike
