Leon Sylvers - It's mind blowing how young he was when he wrote this. The Sylvers; so talented, so polished, so professional. I miss them as a singing group but I'm sure glad I can come to RU-vid to see and hear these blast from the past. RIP Edmund 1/25/1957 - 3/11/2004💐
It’s 2024 and I’m 65 years old now… this song was on my head all morning… just had to hear it and sing along… I loved them and all their songs! Wish that I could talk to you baby…❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I can hear Leon start singing the song @0:14, then, the whole Sylvers start singing @ 0:34; then, Ricky start singing @0:35, then; Leon start singing @0:51, then; the whole Sylvers start singing again @1:08, then after; the young pretty Ricky start singing again @1:10, and final; the young Edmund start singing @1:22
@@Crissy991 That’s a question for the record execs who decided the two fams were too similar so, one had to go. If you read up on it, it won’t take long to find this and other injustices specifically toward The Sylvers.
This song is incredible. A group of lead singers..every last one of them..their live stage performance is impeccable. Leon Sylvers is a prolific songwriter.
The sylvers are legendary , they had there own sound they were not a copy of the jackson five, Leon is s genius !!, God bless Edmund may he rest in Paradise!!
Leon was a beast!!!!! Man I wished he would of stayed in the group but the label wasn't allowing the group of have creative control.. He became the sound of Solar records... smh.. Imagine had the group stood with their brother? all of that shalamar stuff they would of had..
I lived in the Nickerson Gardens at the time that the Sylvers were there and I used to hang out with Rickey and Edmund. I would always go over to their house and look through Jonathan's comic book collection. I would often stay over their house when they would have rehearsal. Leon wasn't playing. He always told me that if I couldn't sit there and watch without goofing around I could stay. We moved away before they did but when I first heard Fools Paradise on the radio I knew all of the words to the song and my friends couldn't figure out how I knew therm. I lived on 114th and Compton Ave. directly across the street from the Housing Authority. I went to Markham for 2 and a half years. I remember when the Pigmies jumped Edmond in the auto parts store on 108th and Compton Ave. Yea, that was messed up with a capital "F".
This song brings back memories when The Sylvers first came to St Louis back in 74 it was a great evening I wish you guys could get together and come back to St Louis again peace be with you all thanks for all the memories
I'm from the Nickerson Gardens in Watts I remember when the Silver State on 115th and success Leon Sylvers was a genius he was ahead of his time God Bless The Sylvers and they had a beautiful Mom Shirley Sylvers one of the best women in the world God Rest her soul
Wow didn't know they were from watts California. Went to Carver elementary on 120th and success in LA in early 70s. Back before 105 freeway came thru. 11710 south Slater street. The Harris family. So cool because I had six siblings as well. I remember when Hawkins burgers was just Hawkins corner market on Slater and imperial across from nickerson gardens. Awesome memories. I even remember Cynthia Hawkins as a kid cheating us out of our money when we redeemed bottles. She'd only give us half of what they were worth. Lol I know I'm babbling right now but yes this was my favorite sylvers song, this one and Misdemeanor by Foster sylvers. I thought they were better than Jackson five, well at least their earlier stuff. Then they're music went the way of disco pop. Anyway good memories.

This the best song Sylvers ever did. I grew up listening to J5. But foster was only one to match Mike voice I miss the 70s so much. Got out of high school in 74. College in 78. Thatcwas a dope time to be young in New York City RHB
I saw them perform this song live and their harmonies were everybody. This is when they were 6 members. To really here them harmonize, listen to them sing Yesterday. Beautiful.
This first album was brilliant. The songs, harmonies, arrangements; almost every song was just wonderful, catchy pop/r&b. They had such a signature sound thanks to Leon Sylvers III; he was a true musical innovator, if not a genius.
The arrangements!! The harmonies!! Pure genius!! I hear a blend of 3 different eras of music combined to make their own sound/niche.....thats why they sound light years different yet around the corner similar to groups of that era.

Foster was never in this group. He had a side thang made up of himself and two of the other sisters, Pat and Angie. He recorded Misdemeanor with them, not this group.

My first crushes befor the DeBarges. At least with the DeBarges I was a teen but with the Sylvers I was a little kid! I loved this group and I have the first album in possession now. This is the album my father bought for all of us and I nabbed it as an adult lol.
This was their best song in MO and my favorite of theirs and was pure Sylvers. Hot Line and Boogie Fever were cross over hits and what the record execs wanted although they were bigger hits overall. Leon got into beefs with the REs over the songs they would record and they turned the others against him which led to their downfall.
Wu-Tang & Nas came to Massachusetts, I’m from Boston. And when they did all the Wu members intros GFK came out to Mighty Healthy. My favorite GFK song ever. Tears came to my eyes. And I was the only one in my section who knew word for word. Everyone gave props..Wu Tang Forever
Great point. And even better than that, Leon Sylvers WROTE all the songs on this album!! This guy was 16 or 17 years old and writing songs like this. Brother's scary!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS THE WAY THEY DID IT IN THE 70's FOLKS!.............................................................end of lesson............................................................................................................CLASS DISMISSED...............
Leon handled the question well. He didnt get an attitude or anything. but that is what they dealth back then. The thought that they were a Jackson 5 knock off. If only people knew........ Motown was scared to death at the potential threat that the sylvers were to the Jacksons. They also analyze their music to see why their records was so tight. Not only Motown was taking notice.. The Jacksons themselves was taken notice. MJ told Edmund sylvers they were scared of the sylvers.... they were good
And this is known fact. Joe Jackson had the Sylvers kicked off of a tour where they were the opening act for the Jackson's. The Sylvers were that good.
somebody sang this at a talent show when I was in the eighth grade. the steps were tight! harmony was killer too! and the afros? smooth round, of course! ;-)
Yolanda Rice I saw your post on u tube. I used to work at place where J Lash had his photo studio. I remember you well and your wonderful daughter Teshema. Hope all is well with you all. My condolences for the loss of Augie. I found out thru my friend Kathy LeDay. God bless you!!!! Love Thomas
a lot of people don't believe that one time The Sylvers lived in the projects and watch the Nickerson Gardens I was so happy when they made it big great story Leon and Olympian they were the oldest real cool people
I swear if this doesn't tell my life when I was a teenager and in love with THAT GIRL and couldn't muster up the words to tell her!!! Dammit Leon, you knew, you knew!!!!!
Diogenes Arauz, Leon start singing the song @0:14, then, the whole Sylvers start singing @ 0:34; then, Ricky start singing @0:35, then; Leon start singing @0:51, then; the whole Sylvers start singing again @1:08, then after; the young pretty Ricky start singing again @1:10, and final; the young Edmund start singing @1:22
Been listening to this for the past 27 years and didn't even realize that both James and Leon sang leads on this till this year. I assumed it was just Leon at first. Awesome track by this group. Still crazy about Olympia-Ann too : ))
I have been singing this song for years in my head...the verse " I wish I could talk to you baby" over & over again. Thanks to you tube, I typed the verse..and I found one of my beloved songs!!! I am so darn happy. Please do not compare the two groups ...The Jackson 5 & the Sylvers. They were awesome in their own rights. If we need to compare, compare "R&B" of today, to all those beautiful heartfelt ballads of yesterday. You can't. The R&B of today sucks and will never be memorable.
Watching unsung and listening to them during commercials. They were great. Better than the Jacksons but why compare? Their harmonies (The Sylvers) were very rich. I am glad Unsung back them back to life for us.
Ak arms whatever your name is,do your research The Sylvers were out before The Jacksons, they were known as The Little Angels in the early 60's,The Jacksons were not known for another 8 or 9 years later. They toured with Ray Charles and they learn the 4 part harmony in 7 minutes..But you probably would not do that, and say stuff you have no idea in what you are saying..
