Her real-life leave for pregnancy influenced a really great three episode story arc in the second season, so in retrospect it's cool! She's so awesome.

Like Anderson, I grew up in different countries. Consequently, the accent that comes out can depend on whom I am talking to, or where I am. Sometimes it is deliberate; sometimes it isn't. That said, my vocabulary is a mixture of American and British English and those who have listened closely notice it. What this means is that even when I use the American accent (which is really more natural for me), the vocabulary mixture still remains.
She's in her 40's, not 80's for christ's sake. Why do people assume a person will look like crap in their 40's? There are lots of people that look great when they're older. It's called good genes. Stop being amazed by little things and try to get more life experience instead of drooling over a famous person.
The Scottish-American actor, John Barrowman (Torchwood, Dr. Who) was born in Scotland but moved to a city near Chicago when he was eight. Of course he spoke with a marked Scottish accent but got teased mercilessly by the other kids at school. He worked to lose his accent when he was at school and away from home. Yet when he is with his parents or siblings or is in Scotland, his Scottish accent reappears. He can flip from one accent to the other. I imagine it is similar for you.
Because she grew up in the US and England. I'm a military brat. My father is American; my mum is Brit. Because part of my youth was spent in Mississippi, when I'm in the south a southern accent sometimes falls out of my mouth before I realize it. When that happens, I worry that the person will think that I'm mocking them when in fact I am not. My American accent lacks regional flavour because I spent so many years of my youth outside of the United States; the same is true of my British accent.

I am a big fan of John's and he is also a good singer. Check him out here on RU-vid for both his interviews and some of his performances. He's really quite humorous. It is so true about the accents both here and in the UK.
@loxj She lived in London as a child, and returned to live there after Xfiles was over. She also had been doing theater there for years now, so perhaps she's not doing a fake accent....
Oh, wow! I didn't realize that about Barrowman. I loved Torchwood! When I lived in England, I was a big Dr Who fan! Tom Baker played Dr Who at the time. And, yes, it is similar for me, actually. As my mum tells it, I first spoke using an English accent. I'll say 'English' this time, because some want to chide me about saying 'British accent' because Britain is made up of England, Wales, and Scotland, and even within England there are various regional accents, as there are here in the US.

Haha, now I know. As me and my mom were watching the x files on netflix, we noticed how much weight she gained since episode one, and both agreed that she had gotten pregnant during season 1 and 2... We were right!
I thought she was chubby! Lol! Then the next season, Mulder commented on her losing weight. I have a feeling that was unscripted because it seemed to catch her off guard before she replied, "Ah, yes I have." I just didn't know the back story!
