The Tallest Man on Earth: "In Little Fires" | Ep. 1 of The Light in Demos

“In Little Fires” is the first episode of a video project I started working on last month. I’ve decided to produce, write, direct, record, shoot and edit a series of videos by myself and release them here as I finish them. Each video features a demo of a new song or a cover that I record live on camera (except when friends join, their parts will likely be overdubbed).
While I love playing shows, and will get back out on the road eventually, I’ve found myself wanting to record what’s right in front of me, but not just through song, and not months or years after the fact. And while making music is endlessly inspiring, so is being quiet enough to stare at the way the light hits the barn.
I want to share the light and the sound, but not without a bit of risk - I’m not used to sharing demos - and not without a bit of uncertainty - I don’t have a plan other than to post a video every other week. Subscribe to my channel to see them as they happen. I hope you enjoy.

Lyrics:
There’s always June
So deep in who I am
Its loveliness to get
A measure where I stand
But now the world is in my knees
Remind me of the place
Remind me where I’ll be
And just lie if it’s too late
We’re from a place
of darker lullabies
Singing of hope
In little fires
Feel it all
In this time to be afraid
But get on by
In little fires
And we never learn
only try to figure out
the whisper in our bones
that’s always been around
And through these days, I know,
I look away and more
So guilty I forget
what I’ve said sorry for
We’re from that place
of darker lullabies
singing of hope
In little fires
Feel it all
in this time to be afraid
but get on by
In little fires
The world is in my face
Remind me who I am
Release me into light
deliver me again
or just right into the arms
forget to rake the leaves
The neighbourhood will moan
or sing me right to sleep

Kristian, PLEASE release this song!!! It's a masterpiece. I've listened to this video dozens of times these years, it brings me peace and hope. All your work is admirable (you're probably my favorite artist, at least among the ones who are still alive), but I seriously believe 'In little fires' would reach the top 10 of your finest compositions. Thank you so much

Half an hour ago I was sitting on my couch alone, in tears, because i recently graduated but now have absolutely no idea what to do with myself. I was overthinking every decision I've made up till now and feeling anxious about the future, when I stumbled upon your project. I just wanted to thank you for doing this. Your music reassured me immensely, and watching your videos sparked a sense of hope and motivation in me. I saw you live a few years ago in Amsterdam and have never stopped listening to your music since. Once again, thank you.

you're one of the reasons I'm still here, music gave me a hand out of the pit of hell I threw myself in. as a poet, I totally agree with abstract thinking being needed now more than ever. I try to spread the same with my writing, I seriously doubt you'll ever read my comment personally, but I would really enjoy sharing some abstract writing. I use nature to explain emotional struggles and lessons. even if not, I still fully support you, and my respect continues to grow. keep it up! and most importantly, thank you.

Kristian, I'm really glad you're doing this. If you don't already, you should know about Point Pelee in Ontario. Its a natural land trap for birds, and is absolutely magical during the spring migration. Its the furthest point south across Lake Erie, so there are thousands of birds of hundreds of species which are all chirping, signing, and too exhausted to care about humans after having just flown 30+ miles to cross the lake. Best, Matthew.

Dear Kristian I've been listening to your music for quite a long time now. It has brought me through hard times, made me fly in high times and enlightened me when there was only little light in my life. In the last couple of months I often thought to myself "what a dark place this world has become" and I feared for the future of my recently born son. But when I heard your words in the beginning of this episode and listened to "in little fires" and all of those those beautiful songs of "the light in demos" I started to change my mind and thought "well maybe all is not lost after all!". For that I want to thank you with all my heart! Please keep on inspiring and cheering up people with your wonderful lyrics and tunes. To me you're definetely the greatest poet of this century. Hope to see you on stage soon. All the best! t

Hey man, I saw you in Asheville, NC when you were touring Dark Bird is Home. My best friend and his girlfriend had just broken up, he was real down and he didn't want to the show alone, so he took me instead. We were standing in the front row and after the second or third song in the set you threw your pick down and everyone was cheering, but i'll never forget the eye contact that you and my friend had for this one silent moment ya'll were in the same place. Anyways this video is beautiful and I'm happy you are finding new ways of sharing your vision. Looking forward to the rest! Cheers, Grant
