Hi Sigi, Thanks for another video. I find aged tea in general to be more richer longer lasting! You can get way more steeps out of the tea. Use less grams as well. I've had one 50 plus year old tea. It taste really nice. Of course fully red tea soup colour. Taste just like the best black tea, I ever had in my life! I no it sounds weird comparing a sheng to a black tea. Yes storage is very important! Too wet is not very good in my opinion it can really ruin the tea. I've had some tea's taste worst than cough medicine. I tend to like drier storage tea's. I've notice with aged tea some might get a yeasty flavour just before they turn red. But with a little more ageing it really mellows out. Of course not every tea is the same because some many different area's. They produce tea with completely different flavours & aroma's. Even colour can be different! Processing is also important. Yes using a Yixing teapot really helps with aged tea with heat! Please keep making video's thanks bye...

That sounds amazing! I hope I'll get to try a tea like that one day - it's a huge privilege. And thank you for enjoying my videos. I'll do what I can to keep them coming!

Nice video! Tanks for the series! Is there any particular reason, why you are using different kind of cups?
@guydrinkstea
@guydrinkstea Год назад
Thank you! There are three reasons. The first one is pretty pragmatic: I really like those cups and enjoy using them. The second reason is that using multiple cups means that I get the experience of drinking an entire cup's worth more often, which helps give me a better impression when describing the tea. The third reason is that using different cups also gives me slightly different impressions of the tea. I was actually planning to make a video on this topic eventually. Both cup size and shape, and especially the shape of your cup's rim and how it makes your tea hit the mouth can have a pretty drastic impact on how you perceive its taste.

I have a small bit of Sheng from the late 1980s,I am scared to steep it incorrectly,but I shall persevere,and enjoy. I do apologize,as I simply cannot use Gaiwan,only Yixing teapots.

Well, that kind of tea does seem very well suited for a good Yixing pot!

I gotta say I don't have a ton of experience with aged puer but for me I actually prefer the younger teas in my experience. I've had more young sheng that I prefer over older stuff. Some of the perception around young sheng drinkers in some places makes me feel bad for these preferences almost. I had a 2002 sheng and for me it was quite similar to ripe which I'm not a big fan of.

You enjoy what you enjoy. Dont let snobs on the internet ruin your enjoyment of something. Young sheng can be really good, especially if its gushu. I agree, too old sheng can become too like shu. Thats kind of the point of shu.

I think some of that perception may come from two factors: 1. A lot of people start off with a preference for young sheng and its bolder and more high-pitch fragrances. However, and I'm speaking both from personal and relayed experience and here, if you drink mostly young sheng every day for a long period of time (meaning, several years), it's going to hurt your stomach. Mature sheng, on the other hand, is something that I've found to be much more agreeable in that regard when it comes to daily/frequent drinking. 2. A lot of young sheng nowadays is pleasant to drink (in terms of taste) because of modernised processing techniques. However, what's still unsure to some extent is whether these processing techniques will also allow the tea to age well in the long run. In comparison to that, good aged sheng has already "proven itself", for lack of better wording. That being said, either preference is entirely valid, and is ultimately no more or less than what it is: a preference.

@MrOzzsome well I've been drinking young Sheng regularly for a year now but we will see if it ends up bothering me. I don't feel anything negative while or after drinking it. Quite the opposite. So far I've liked a 2014 Sheng, but I had a 2002 Sheng and did not like it. It was way too much like ripe.

@@vgamedude12 Aged/mature Sheng is kind of complicated. Storage can be so variable that you can get two of the same tea that taste completely different. I do think there's aged Sheng out there that you would enjoy as well, but I also totally understand not wanting to go down the rabbit hole of trying to find it.

@MrOzzsome I'm not swearing it off and I'm still interested in trying it at some point. I'm just questioning the value of hunting out aged Sheng that's basically more like young Sheng instead of the deep earthy ripes. Oddly enough I've liked fu brick heicha I've tried quite a bit more than ripe as well. I've tried half a dozen or more ripes and to me all are pretty similar and none were teas I'd really reach for.
