Hey Wes I assume you heard about GW & Amazons new plans for 40k with Cavill. What do you think of him playing the big E or one of the Primarch. He's been a 40k fan boy for years & is the executive producer of the project. It'd be nice to increase the 40k fanbase with a popular celebrity & Amazon $$ behind it. Cavill wants to keep the storyline close to the lore. I'm wondering how long will it be before those twats at the top start screwing everything up.

Good point. Does not apply to the Orcs or the Tyranids, though. The orc way of infesting a world means they will always pop back up. The tyranid fleets don't try to hold territory and make resources from the fallen, foe or friend, and may well outnumber every faction in the galaxy. @TheYopogo Год назад
Whenever people say this about the imperium being able to defeat the Tau if it really tried, I always find it weird that nobody mentions the Damocles Crusade. The Imperium launched a full blown Crusade to try and destroy the Tau, and they were repelled. I know that whilst the Tau had fought the Crusade to a standstill on Dal'yth, the Imperium only withdrew because of the arrival of Hive Fleet Behemoth. But that sort of demonstrates the point. The Imperium is so vast and disunited, with so many threats to deal with, that even when they try their very hardest to exterminate the Tau they still can't manage it. If the Imperium had gone for broke on destroying the Tau then *maybe* they could have taken Dal'yth, a single Sept world, with heavy losses. Then they would be deep in Tau territory, heavily damaged with no reinforcements, and with hundreds of Tau worlds still ahead of them, some of them considerably more fortified than Dal'yth. And on top of that, had they not withdrawn and instead continued the Crusade and focus on the Tau, Ultima Segmentum would have been absolutely devastated by Hive Fleet Behemoth, Ultramar would almost certainly have been destroyed, and the Imperium would have been decisively weakened for millennia to come.

The Tau have been my favorite faction since they were first tintroduced. It's sad they don't get more love from the fans (or GW for that matter lol) Based on their progression of technology per amount of time, the more time goes by the bigger of a threat they will become. I think even if they just gained faster travel capabilities, or maybe some warp based travel like the other races, even that alone would increase their threat level.
@fadelsukoco3092
@fadelsukoco3092 Год назад
The way I saw the Tau are like a more militaristic version of Stargate Earth. They started out as generally inferior in many ways than most of the powers of the galaxy, but they don't suffer nearly as much from most of the major pitfalls of the major powers and can leverage their localized strength concentrations to better take advantage of any local situation. This, combined with the inertia, disunity or other problems with their various enemies allowed them to learn about other civilizations and reverse-engineer a lot of their technologies and deal with their tactics after initial contact. Additionally, their willingness to do things that the powers wouldn't for various ideological or historical reasons, like making prolific use of AI and being open and inviting to other species, gives them opportunities to grow that other powers simply don't have. 13:06 I think it's important to note that one of the main reasons for this was the outbreak of the Horus Heresy screwing up the developmental trajectory of the Imperium. During the Great Crusade, the Imperium expanded at gratuitous rates, but they somehow managed to keep the entire operation sufficiently stable. There were many issues popping up that they either had to bear for the short term or far more often just patch up with temporary solutions, but it was always the intention to properly fix all of these issues once the galaxy was pacified of any serious threats to Humanity. However, due to the outbreak of the Heresy and the subsequent millennia of decline and decay that happened after, the Imperium could never reach a position where they had the power to actually do any of that. Problems that were once fixable would grow out of control, and what were once simple stopgap measures (I distinctly recall a quote by some Crusade-era Ultramarine captain about how the Thunderhawk was most likely just a temporary stopgap design due to resource constraints and after things stabilize or become more profitable, the Imperium will replace it with a newer, better ship)became the only ways the Imperium knew to deal with a problem, and many times said measures and procedures would decline in effectiveness due to stagnancy or loss in resources, knowledge and frankly any tolerance for creativity.

The problem with this kind of thinking is everyone is so busy looking at their rise that many don't stop to think about the possible plateau. Yes people like the Tau and SGE can reverse engineer technology and get along with alien races but at a certain scale you can't just replace everything willy nilly, you'll run into a technology that you just can't figure out, and there's bound to be an alien race that's gonna be a thorn in your side because surprise surprise they believe different things. I'm sure the Imperium Pre-horus heresy , the Eldar pre-Slaanesh, and he Goa'uld when they were on the rise seemed unstoppable too but other factors and time lead them to plateau on very different levels. Pretty high levels but still they plateaued Growth is not infinite

Depends on what decisions the AI does. Computers are great at clear objectives, tell them all the rules of chess and they can´t lose, but the more info is required (and often missing) the worse it gets. Tau themselves don´t have a clear idea of what following greater good means, so who knows what their AI does with that, it might follow aetherals like the others, try to rebel against them, start investigating warp technology or just give itself to chaos, anything it consideres "good" for Tau, playing a game it can never know all the rules for.

As a Tau player from the beginning, I have a few theories regarding a lot of the mysteries around them. I'm also working on my own chaos tau kitbash. One of my theories is that the ethereals, or at least the original ones. Are a group of old ones that have survived the war in the heavens. Learning from mistakes of having the physic presence of the Eldar, and the willingness to fight of the kroks. Mellowed out the kroks, and stayed around to keep the tau fighting as one instead of constant infighting and the eventual devolution to the orks we know today. Without the huge physic presence through the warp they are better attuned to prevent chaos corruption. As it is still possible for selected members recorded being possessed or at least influenced by chaos. By direct involvement of an already possessed object/creature/entity. Tau lore even states during the ethereals came out of really nowhere to stop the infighting of the castes. This presence of the ethereals also occurred almost immediately after the fall of the eldar and birth of Slannesh. Now the tau could have already existed and slowly changed to what we now know or Old ones created them during the war of the heavens, being to weak at the time forgotten about.

Efficiency, high-tech, and a hope for the future is what makes them tick, but they are cool exactly because they live in such an universe, and choose to an alternative way to prosper.

You're a bit off tho, the warp doesn't effect them but it does effect certain auxillary races like the humans. The part you're referring to is when they attempted warp travel and were attacked by daemons on their auxillary races but said races actually created a god/entity which is Tau'va. Also no Farsight himself isn't influenced by Khorne, Khorne just has a interest in Farsight because to put it in laymans terms, he's red and uses a demonic sword to fight and extend his life. When titans first showed up yes the tau didn't have a response except for asking for orbital support from Manta drop ships. As time passed the tau experimented on making their own large suits (these became the Stormsurge and Tau'nar, both of which by earth caste and fire caste standards were inefficient) due to the fact losing Mantas was starting to become costly. Eventually they decided on creating a dedicated aircraft that hunts titans which became the AX-10 Tiger shark which were infinitely cheaper to produce and by sheer numbers could wear down even a warlords voidshield before the crafts twin rail cannons tear into the undefended target. I have my own head-lore faction consisting of some Imperial Guardsmen, Tau, and Eldar, who after a lengthy period on some planet cut off from both the Tau and Human empires, making temporary alliances to fight off forces from other factions (Drukhari, Chaos, Orks, etc.), decide to make their alliance a more-or-less permanent thing and slowly begin to put aside their mutual xenophobia. It's the most natural long-term alliance possible in the WH40K universe. The Orks will simply fight, the Tyranids and Necrons want to kill everything else, Chaos wants to subvert everybody, the Drukhari want to torture everyone to death, and the Space Marines and Sisters are too indoctrinated. If I didn't have so many irons in the fire right now I might write a novel or two to explore the topic.

When it comes to AI, I like the idea that it was a genuine AI rebellion without Chaos involved, but as we've seen, AI can be as different as people but they can individually have a higher impact. A single, super powerful AI can orchestrate an entire war effort, Galaxy wide, especially considering the capacity of ancient humanity. Not saying that it was a single AI, but that it would only take a few bad apples to really cripple the Galaxy. Thus, I would love to see a story of the Tau fighting against a rogue AI of their making and dodging the bullet, but coming out of the event VERY shook and more understanding of the Imperial Embargo on AI and in true 40K fashion, the event is shortly ignored and "lost" in order to maintain the status quo.

That's honestly a really original perspective on the Tau. If their civilization exponentially grew their doctrine for the good of all could easily be bastardized The same way the emperor's word was after the heresy. But just to play the devil's advocate I see them being more similar to humanity during the Golden age of technology before the men of iron rose. The main difference being that the tau have the hindsight of seeing what humanity did during that period of time and avoiding those mistakes. If you're looking at it that way just imagine what humanity would have been if they never created opened Pandora's box by creating true AI. And on top of that the towel embody an anti-materialistic lifestyle of the craft world eldar which is another variable that would decrease the likelihood of them straying from the path of "good" If the tau took this path I could definitely see an interesting future where they could have a much smaller force than the imperium of Man would be so advanced that they could actually give them run for their money in all out war. Almost as though they were a fledgling spiritual successor to humanity in the Golden age of technology. God I would love to see how that scenario played out... I think both of these potential futures are equally as likely for the Tau but thanks for prompting me to think about these possibilities with your interesting thought experiment.
