Welcome Back! My sabbatical is over and the time has come, I am job hunting! Job hunting sucks, especially in tech right now but these are the 5 things I'm doing differently to have a positive job search process!

#1 thing I found was not APPLYING TO JOBS ACTUALLY IN TECH. Too many layoffs happening, that even if you get a job it may be gone soon. I just could applying to tech roles in healthcare, food and construction industries

I'm terrified right now because I haven't worked a non-tech, non-hardware job in such a long time, I don't think I'd be taken seriously outside of tech except as entry level, I have really pidgeon-holed myself... I have a job for now luckily

@eshw23 speaking positivity into existence. There's really power in the tongue. Don't limit yourself and doubt yourself even though it's easy to do so. Shift the mindset to be like I'm going to get a job this month, I'm going to ace this interview, etc As for networking, I really utilized Linkedin. You can also attend events but I'm such a homebody that I tend to flake those. Don't be like me. Anyway, Linkedin came on clutch! I would reach out to all kinds of people and connect and ask for some time to chat. I reached out to recruiters at companies I was interested in, people that had similar job titles I was interested in (so I could learn from them). If there was a position I was interested in applying to, I'd apply then I would find out the hiring manager or supervisor for that position and reach out for a chat. I also reached out to anybody working at the places I was interested in. It's good to put a name to a face and some can help with referral links or even move you through the process quicker.

Just lost my job… I told myself I would not be that negative force but lo and behold, I’ve been negative and causing negative energy throughout my household. Granted I disliked the job to begin with, but I thought I could handle it when they let me go. I’ll try to think positive though because I don’t want the fam to block me. I enjoy your videos by the way. Very inspiring!

hey there, sorry about losing your job. I know it can be hard but one thing you can do to stay positive is think of the good that could come of it. Losing a job you dislike might be life's way of forcing you to seek out one you do like. Positivity => Positive Possibilities

Lost my job during maternity leave. I know my sister was tiyaad of me and my sadness. I started listing the things that were working for me each day, played with my baby... and God provided me with a new position!!

great to hear how you're staying positive through this job search. i was laid off last year and still searching for jobs for 9 months now, it has been tough but I also feel like better things are in store despite the scary uncertainty. You touched on such a massive point that is understated - remove negative energy...this also applies to people in your real life. I've been unemployed since the pandemic and it's been very up and down. I will not give up and continue to expand your circle, not just for referrals but knowledge and information. Good luck Bukola!

It took 4 months worth of multiple rounds interviews for my first engineer position in 2021. Just recently , I lost my job in feb and got an offer end of March but my official start date wasn't until end of May....the market is there, its just moving slow!

Me too. That’s why I’m starting a Nursing postgraduate programme this September. The changing landscape of tech compelled me to seek a back-up career for long term security, a career where my skills will always be in high demand, globally. The plan is to use the nursing qualification as a foundation for other clinical specialisation, such as CRNA, NP, PA or Aesthetic (the culture of the world has changed- we’re now obsessed with looking youthful thanks to social media). Clinical aestheticians are more sort after (by people who prioritise safety) for invasive treatments than non clinical ones.

Great video and wish you the very best! You’ve got a sound approach which should be very effective. It’s not possible to be positive 100% of the time when it comes to job applications and interviews as it can be such a draining and time consuming task, so remember that it will all happen at the right time for you. Such a great video, thank you for sharing, I agree with you completely on how extremely important the mindset is. I had a few people on social media that I blocked because they were constantly telling me how horrible the job market is and how they are giving up Software Development and going to non-tech jobs... One of them even did it deliberately after I told him that such comments get to me. I have had enough experiences of my own, I do not need the wight of others, we all have ups and downs, but when I have a bad day I try not to spread my mood around... AI is everywhere that's true :) I have been working on integrating AI chatbots on few existing apps that I have

Lost mt job since 2022. 8 months in i couldnt find a tech job. I got interviews but that was it. Just started my own 2 business. Clienta are trickling in now but i have to open the flood gates to be able to live off them. Thats where i am now.

I can't complain about the situation in Switzerland. Have you ever considered that jobs don't only make sense in the USA? And 2. it's not just tech companies that are looking for well-trained developers. There are so many jobs besides the classic tech companies. Maybe just open your horizons.

I'm still job hunting , taking lots of online courses (got stuff to do on codecademy , udemy and solo learn) and also thinking about doing projects to add to my portfolio on github. I considered apply for a job teaching kids to code during lunch time and at after school clubs in my city. The entry requirements seemed way easier than most office based tech jobs in the sense that you're not required to understand a particular API or framework and don't have to build any practical real world applications but you do need to understand microcontrollers but the work hours are kinda short so it seems like a side hustle more than a full time job 🤔

I'm ready to try something else. I had my one-on-one last week and told my supervisor that I am comfortable with my current workload and where I am at and they want to pile on more work and push me more. Bottom line - do more work, work longer hours. I already get stressed out when this job takes over my nights and weekends. I am ready to leave. Maybe I just need to go to a different company.

It's like the government is in denial that COVID is not truly over, most people are experiencing the aftershock in some way. It does not help that companies in the USA are heavily sending roles abroad that citizens could perform and desperately need.

Like the mindset approach. Otherwise you smell like desperation and it stink in both direcetion. You can meet exploitative people easier. And the interesting people will feel like you are not worth it while you actually worth it. Only good stuff comes from positive mindset. Thanks I needed that.

The positions are out there, it's just painfully slow going through the interview process. And now with more competition, I highly recommend people practice conveying their resume spot on to the description...kind of like selling yourself to the interviewers (cringe).

Also, yes there are positions getting cancelled (im still getting emails for old applications). And internal hiring going on, I got to the end of two company interviews and was told they're deciding to hire internally!

I've been job hunting for 11 months (I do product management) and it's been a nightmare. I've gotten offers only for them to vanish because the role gets put on hold, the company ghosts me, etc. My suggestion to anyone job hunting is to focus primarily on networking vs. mass applying and shooting off your resume into the black void of the ATS systems. Networking/referrals really is the most effective and time-efficient way of getting interviews. I know there will be exceptions but that generally applies to superstar candidates who have worked at all the FAANG companies etc.

It sucks, because finally in my early 30's, which I don't think is remotely old, I have removed the negative self talk and have stability and finally actually programmed a few things, made a portfolio, had a 2 year course but... can't even get a Junior position, they are not willing to give any chances at all. Frankly, I don't know who's actually getting hired. Are 19-23 year olds without experience getting hired when Junior positions still require experience? I know 2 CS graduates that can't get a job as well... I never thought anything in the tech world would ever have a "down time", didn't when I was a kid, and most definitely don't think so now with all the tech we have. Sitting in front of your computer learning stuff is the common thing, when even a decade ago that was still considered pretty "nerdy".

Right, I've been in constant touch with a fiinancial-analyst since covid . You know these days it's really easy to buy into trending stock`s, but the task is determining when to buy or sell . My advisorr decides entry and exit commands on my portfoliio, I've accrued over $300k from an initially stagnant reserve of $150K.

The adviser I'm in touch with is marie Slopiey Donner she works with Merrill, Pierce, Smith incorporated and interviewed on CNBC Television. You can use something else, for me her strategy works hence my result. she provides entry and exit point for the securities I focus on.

I recently been jumping from job to job by friend recommendations and these jobs are warehouses just because I really needed money. Even though I had a lot of experience in warehouses, I am really burnt out and hate waking up going to work. I’ve been taking the Google data analytics course and I have been really enjoying it and something about being on a computer. It makes me feel so productive, I’ve been on and off, but watching this video has encouraged me to finally take some time after work and finish bit by bit every day, knowing myself helps me out and that my dreams and goals are possible, and I can change my career path!

People that are searching for tech jobs in big tech, you are missing the point: YOU, yes YOU are the Tech. Big tech is nothing more than a pile of managers. At any point in time YOU can decide to group together and start a new tech from scratch. Waste you time and energy to beg for a job in big tech or, waste your time and energy on your own tech company you are creating that over time will become big tech. Becoming tech is the easiest thing you can find in this world. Keyboard PC, compiler and editor and off you go. You don't even need enterprise tools, no cloud subscriptions, no jira, no collaboration tools. Start by creating a small program that does not require cloud or subscription for some local shops. Create what people want, programs that does not spy on you, that does not copy your data, that does not need endless subscriptions,......

I agree to have a good mindset and attitude and avoid negativity but there is a point where being positive can be another way of saying 'denial'. I say this as someone who is rooting for you to find something you'll enjoy doing. Also, in regards to learning A.I from experts at Google. Are they really the best choice out there? I mean, we are talking about the same company that had to take down their A.I because of the terrible images it made.

@hl236 You'd have to put a lot of effort into thinking of a business idea for a start up. It's something I want to do in the future and not only do I have to understand tech for my idea but I also want to understand a bit about the finance side of business , working with private equity and so on plus thinking about how to actually be a good leader to potential employees.

If you saw the first video the plan was always to go back to get a job! This was a 1 year break from work. RU-vid pays ok, 😎 lol But I've always made more from my tech job, plus the benefits like health insurance, retirement contribution ect. have so much value... content creation would need to make x2 more than I could get from a full time tech job... for it to make sense for me dedicate all of my energy to it full time, which right now for me it doesn't. Plus so many other personal factors make this a smart decision for me.

As someone that makes money on RU-vid, I would NEVER leave my job unless other opportunities from RU-vid arose. Views on channels decrease over time and your income is never steady, RU-vid has TOTAL control over your content, they could change their rules tomorrow, etc, etc. You have no control. The average content creator won’t make enough to live a comfortable life solely from RU-vid. It’s not the life the most assume
