SailGP is high speed, high tech and high impact. This global sports championship combines cutting-edge tech, iconic global venues, elite athletes and record-breaking speeds to create the most exciting racing on water. Rival teams from the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Canada, France, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Spain battle it out at iconic venues around the world in short, intense races for a total prize pot of $5 million. Teams compete in identical hydrofoiling F50 catamarans that fly above the water at electrifying speeds approaching 100 km/h. Fan-centric and close-to-shore, each SailGP Championship culminates in a $1 million, three-boat, winner-takes-all Grand Final.

It really is, we have a big issue in NZ where we can’t attract major events because of a “what if” mentality.

There will be an event in NZ but not necessarily in Christchurch for Season 5. Hopefully in a future season there could be a Christchurch event again at a time of year the dolphins are farther from shore.

@@zoepaulastrassfield2664 dolphins were only one part of the issue. Local iwi down there a complete hypocrites.

There is one person on the boat whose only job is to look around. If blind spots were the reason for the collision then there would be collisions every five minutes.

Auckland makes sense which is painful to say as a Cantab😅. But I wonder if somewhere else might be possible. I reckon Tauranga might be a nice spot. Sad loss for Chch but I guess that's life 😢

The dolphins have to come first I was very frustrated to see the racing not happened on day one as a passionate sailGP fan. But also, really happy to see that the safety protocols were followed properly And day two was an incredibly amazing event that shows that dolphins can be protected and an amazing event can also happen I am really disappointed in sell GP, especially Russell Coates they aggressively market themselves as being an environmentally, friendly organisation But as soon as there is an environmental cause that interrupts the race at all, it’s just bureaucracy and bullshit They promote all of the environmental work that they do around the world That doesn't interrupt the race They even have an environmental leader board for teams to compete, for which is the most environmentally friendly team what the New Zealand has one at least wants The two previous competitions except for Australian one have been in locations, which have very questionable welfare for the marine protection and have leaders and that can just approve projects with no consultation with experts And Russell Coates he is now claiming that he has more knowledge about marine welfare than the international experts He’s clearly out of touch and all of the environmental work that sailGP has done is now feeling quite questionable And from my understanding, there is a bit of a backlash from the sailors about how the event was organised even though it sounds like they all agree that it is one of the best locations for the race I think they need a lot strongly at themselves about how they organise the event rather than just pointing the finger at the host venue And Littleton could definitely have been made more prosperous if they had buses from Christchurch to Neville point and buses to the centre of Littleton Russell Coates could’ve made this event in Christchurch, a great example of their environmentally, friendly goals but instead he’s come out and said that protecting the environment is less important than has yachting event, which is country to what the event promotes great example of Green washing
