I just stumbled on you and absolutely love the way you explain the process , especially not worrying about values when blocking in the masses. I have never been able to do that and now you just lifted a huge load off my shoulders . Thank you , subscribed!
Holy simplification Batman! This was wonderful... and anything but CRAP. Love to see how skilled artists treat chaotic reference in a simple focused way. Welcome back to the "tubes" my friend. Great message as always. Though I have to say, I wasn't sure who's hand was up who's back, yours or Uncle Albert's. 🤔
Thanks buddy, I'm not really sure why I keep Albert around, other than to say he makes me feel better about myself. Been away for a while, but I'M BACK! And a huge thanks for a superstar RU-vidr like yourself checking in on us lowly grunts to keep us in line... lol! ;0)
A thousand thank you's for painting this, and for recording and editing it and for talking to us about the process...and most of all thank you for sharing it with us.
OOOH!! I have been stuck on large canvases and need a change. I'm going to give your idea a go. I did hear about a Dutch painter who recommends this too. Thank you.
Hello Steve. I came across your channel yesterday and have been binging the videos. Not are you only an excellent artist, you’re an amazing presenter as well. Keep bringing the content and I’ll try to catch up on as many videos as I can. 👍🏻
Love your videos. Just discovered within this last year the value of small studies like this. I need to go smaller to be faster! Great demo!! Very encouraging.
What a great video! Love being able to watch your process. Also, thanks so much for sharing your copyright-free photos - it's wonderful to have a well-composed photo to use as a reference!
This series of small paintings should be a Master Class for any oil painter - maybe even acrylic painters - to do, to practice, to get better, quicker. Thanks, Steve. I have enjoyed your artwork for several years. I wish I could say I can now paint as good as you - but the truth is, not so much. :)
To all honestly i never had the confidence to paint the sample photo but after watching this vid i am sure i can do it. Mr. Steve I have done lot of paintings but never had these ideas.
Thank you, the great artist. I really like your dealings with the photo source. You take from it what you want for your idea and do not limit yourself to the literal translation. Thank you very much for sharing.
Oh steve you are a fantastic artist hats off brother you have taught me so many things which i did not know very good art teacher, you are the one like Ian Roberts you both are fannnntastic and teach every details honestly I don't find words to express my feelings for you but only thing i could say is you and Ian Roberts are the best on RU-vid I thank to god for coming across such people. One thing is sure i will definitely go thru all your play list and will grab from the ocean of your knowledge. I want be an atrist like you and Ian. Hats off bro.
That's so kind of you Afzal, I hope the road to your artistic mastery is smooth. But even though it's hard, that's what makes it so satisfying as you get better. It's clear that you are working hard, so I have no doubt that you'll get there. Paint on!!
Thank you for sharing your fine and skilled painting process I liked your painting very much in an earlier place than the one you chose to stop - it looked as a lovely spot between a very loose style with a great feeling of light dancing in a Landscape and an “abstract” Landscape - and with a very fresh feeling of movement and mystery so for me it was better before adding the details 🙃 And by the way a lovely intro 😃🧡
I love watching your videos. They always give me some insight and hope that I will get better at painting. I definitely have not been able to break the 45 minute mark for any painting. I think mixing colors/values is the most consuming part for me.
Good to hear from you Travis! Getting faster is always the most challenging thing when you start. One thing you can do is to premix all your colors and values. It's slower to start, but dang, you can fly through a painting once your brush hits the canvas. I'll put that technique on my future video list. Thanks for watching! S.
Did you try it HIS way? Start the timer later....Shhhh ...don't tell him I said so...hey, it's YOUR painting, YOUR timer! So get to that phinshing line on time! LOL
Fantastic video Steve. It's great to see you again. It's always an exciting time when one of your videos pops up. I did laugh out loud at your painting system name lol. Looking forward to your next video.
Good vid mate .apart from the painting i really loved the music choice .could you please let me know the songs and singers name .thank you .wayne greentree
That was awesome. I really appreciate the time you put into that video. Excellent narration. Professional delivery. I have been oil painting for a very short time. All this information was gold. I have a question. During this exercise, do you pre mix your colors or mix on the fly? Keep making oil painting videos. Thanks
Thanks Dan, much appreciated. To answer your question, I've tried premixing my colors but I'm too impatient for that, so everything is mixed as I need it. I just try to mix enough of a general color that I can add other colors to it to bend them warmer or cooler as needed. But it's not as complicated as I just made it sound...
Thank you for all your great videos. I have just re-discovered your channel. I wonder if you could comment on why you changed some colours in the painting, as in the blues in the background and the rock being more in brown tones. I know a lot of artists say it’s a painting not a photocopie. Limited pallet? Thanks
I love you videos! I learn so much. I do wish you’d make more:) I understand though. I make videos too and it can be a rabbit hole that can take you away from the real work of Art. Keep them coming when you can.
Thank you so much Theresa! I had to take a break for a while to get some commissions finished. So, I'll be posting more often again. And yes, I wish they went faster, but I guess I paint fast and edit videos slow, hahaaa!
For detail do you use bendy synthetics and do you add medium? I find it very hard to have enough paint for a continuous thin lines while controlling the width, maybe I just dont have a small enough brush that is right for the job?
Hello, Steve here! Just wanted to share with you the link to my "Buy me a coffee" page, where you can buy me a tube of paint. When I reach my goal, I'll be buying another camera to record my painting palette so you can watch me mix colors as well. Hi Thomas, are you referring to how I stick the panel to my board? If so, I use Museum Putty, aka Blue Tac. I take a small amount, about the size of a small marble, and press one onto each corner of the panel, then press those corners against the board. It sticks till you take it down.
@@SteveAtkinsonFineArt That is just so kool. Thank you my friend. I have to say I enjoy your humor almost and I emphasize almost, you tutorials. You are a great teacher and a superb painter/artist. Just quickly,do you think I could get this from Jerry's Artarama?
@@thomasbroderick6388 don't know about getting it at Jerry's, but you can find it on Amazon, and most craft stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. It looks like strips of putty
I love your little painting! but I really don't like the way you count off your time! Every brushstroke should count, timer should begin with the first mark you put on that board! So what if it takes more than 30 minutes! It is still an incredible little painting. I know, I know, I heard ya. YOUR painting, Your Timer, YOUR rules. Thanx for sharing. Really appreciate the phinishing...it REALLY perked up the little painting! Will have to try it your way! Thanx again for sharing!
haaaha, you're right Quin. It doesn't matter really, I just like to be fully transparent. Next time, I promise to start the timer when I start the drawing...maybe, lol. ;o)
Hi Dick, here's a link to a video portrait I did a couple of years ago. It won an award of excellence at the Oil Painters of America Naional show a couple years back now. Hope you find it helpful. I also did a previous video on getting my drawing onto the canvas. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SJOLjA8w7NM.html
