Antonis, you are so gracious, and grateful, and humble in your expression; but/and you are a consummate Master! As a visitor to your channel, I’m incredibly grateful to see such beautiful work offered with so much generosity. Thank you so much! I never had any formal training, but I’ve sometimes enjoyed painting with oil. (I’ve even tried icons with oil... never to be shown in public! 🧐) For what it’s worth let me share this: One process with oil I find useful is to dispense with turpentine altogether, except occasionally for use to wash brushes outside. Instead I mix the pure oil with siccative (as directed by manufacturer, usually 5% or less) and usually the painted surface will dry overnight to be ready to receive the next layer of paint the next day. It also takes care of some of the “fat over lean” concerns ( and the need to mix several different mediums.) Brushes can be cleaned and cared for well by removing paint with paper towel and then rinsing them in a bit of oil mixed with some clove oil. Lavender oil and citrus oil are gentler replacements for turpentine when solvents are required. (Of course, this process may not be appropriate for everyone, but I much prefer the smell of this to turpentine.) Thank you again, and keep up the good work! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, this was perfect. Just what I needed to see. I’m now confident that oil will probably rapidly become my favorite medium for painting icons. Watercolor is so nice, but the blending on oil is superior. I think I’m going to switch after I finish up this last icon. Thanks again for the encouragement and valuable information.

Zachary thank you! It's a matter of taste.... Personally I love both oil and tempera...

Again I have to agree with you. I'm a watercolourist and I'd love to start painting with oil because of the splendid blending and glazing opportunities it offers but some technical/practical issues are insurmountable for me; this is why I started considering tempera instead. Let's see what happens... I'm sure with Antonis' help it won't be a problem.

Fascinating to watch! Some of the steps seem - to me, anyway - counterintuitive, but then things suddenly all come together in a beautiful whole under the sensitive brush of the skilled painter. It's interesting to see the habit of painting in hatch strokes come through, but again, all is resolved into a beautiful painting in the end. Thank you.

Superb master Antonis the Cretan. As many have write, it is not just your unique quality as painter, but your Kerigma in the pencil and with the word is perfect. The painting has to come from the spirit, free and vigilant. You allow anyone without any knowledge of painting, as myself, to learn how to understand the phases of each technic and method, with simplicity. Thank you. Your a good man, may God help you.

Again, I am so grateful to see you work - your artistic talent is what we call polymath - you know so much about so many topics and mediums. I think I better stick to ET, and try to be good at one thing - but I was thrilled to watch you work.

Since you are trying new mediums, would you consider doing something in acrylics? It would be very interesting to see you try them, much more so that today there are two types of acrylics, fast drying and slower drying such as Golden Open. Just a thought.

Antonis - How do you prepare your panel for Oil Paint? I prepared a panel using your video - but the surface is too absorbent for Oil Paint. Do you Prime your panel before you paint with Oil? Thanks!
