The Telluride Zipline - Telluride Canopy Adventure
Here's where you can book:
tellurideskire...
So Tina and I booked a trip on the new zipline at Telluride; Telluride Canopy Adventure. I believe it's part of the Telluride Ski Resort, but I'm not sure.
What I do know is that it's fun. Ziplines are fun. The Telluride Zipline includes 5 ziplines. The largest one is 1800 feet long! There are also two bridges and two rappels to add the icing on the cake. Telluride Canopy Adventure takes groups (I believe up to 6 people) with two guides. One goes first and sets up the receiving end of the zipline and the second waits behind and gets everyone ready. They're a little more hands on than I expected; you basically don't even touch your gear for set up and remain clipped in at all times. They provide all of the equipment including harnesses, gloves and helmets. They make sure you are properly fitted and you take the ski lift up to 'zipline school' which is a very short tutorial where you practice the basics. Then it's immediately on to the course.
The course itself is very new. I think they opened a couple years ago. Being this new, it is very well built and maintained. They even have a state of the art braking system where you stop short of the platform and are pulled in by the guides.
All of this 'on rails' experience may make it slightly disappointing for more adventurous, hands on people, but I personally didn't mind at all. It also makes it perfect for beginners. All of that aside, the ziplines are really fun. I especially loved the 1,800 foot one and the one that is lower to the ground and takes you through the trees. The rappels and bridges are fun too. And the scenery can't be beat.

Love Ziplining. Glad the two of you could get away for a bit to the mountains. So beautiful up there in the San Juans.

Gotta do something to get away from the valley heat in the summer. What's better than the San Juans?

Looks like it was a good time on the zip line. Just now seeing your video as we were in Telluride last Monday/Tuesday and Crested Butte after that. Too funny, as we’ve been in the same area at about the same time as you a few times before. Maybe we’ll run into you and be able to say hi someday, ha ha. Hiked to just above Lower Blue Lake. Sorry that the road to West Maroon Pass Trailhead was still closed at Crested Butte, but still got to see some beautiful wildflowers. A nice break from the TX heat and humidity for sure.

Maybe we will run into you. Oddly enough, I always seem to randomly run into people I know in Colorado. (Ran into Clint and his family on this trip.) That is too bad about the road; it's a beautiful drive.

Pretty swanky that you can keep coming back to the area and there is an inexhaustible supply of things to do!

Did ziplines in Boquete (cloud forest) and El Valle (rain forest), Panama. Exceptional! Quite a bit wilder than these.

It was a lot of fun. Especially the 1800 footer and the one in the trees. The scenery wasn't bad either.

Wow that looks fun!! I have had an aversion to zip lines . But this one looks well under control. It’s the stopping that can get out of control. This one looks cushy

It's pretty new, so it has a great two part brake system. I came in hot on the first one and it stopped me, no problem.

Years ago I saw a clip about a zipline where they went head first, face down flying like Superman. Maybe I'll find one like that some day.

Good point. Didn't think about it and they didn't mention anything about it.
