@@GeraBerned you're not listening to anything that I posted. I didn't praise him by saying he was anything special: Jack the ripper George Wilkes Booth. Are also household names am I praising them
@@travisbaker7967 Good point. When I saw "RIP, brother," all I could think was What about your sister? I've run into bro v sis all of my life in our community. But I apologize cz you didn't say anything except respect for the passed away. Peace, brother. ♥️
I saw that episode in the movie. I bet he was sorry he started drinking! But how Ironic. Paul later turned to the bottle too...smh. Alcohol and drugs have destroyed many talented people over the years... SMH...
@@melanieprice5535 Paul Williams was in pain from sickle cell anemia and turned to drinking for relief. I love the Temptations in spite of their behind the scenes drama.
To BE HONEST ...... ALL Made UP The Group Well Blended! BUT YOU TRIED IT My HOMIE... EDDIE Kendrick I Haven't Heard NO ONE Close So FAR To HIS Tenor VOICE And Ruffin Knew He Had A Talent And A Ungrateful NARC TOO!
@@rosewelton2904 It was well known that Ruffian (intentional spelling) hit her. Are you a woman? Then please don't make excuses for an abuser. He either caused her brain tumor or made it grow fatal.
@@rosewelton2904 Aer you a woman? Then please don't empower an abuser cz you like his voice. His abuse is well known. He either caused her brain tumor or made it deadly.
You kidding?? Beating a fatal brain tumor onto Tammi Terrell is fine?? Paul Williams sang lead on My Girl. Ruffin lasted less than 3 years. The Temps still had Williams and Eddie Kendricks. Too late for Tammi Terrell, tho.
The Way You Do the Things You Do was recorded 23 days after Al's last session. It was also David Ruffin's second recording session with the group. A Tear from a Woman's Eye was 3 days earlier.
It’s so sad; ppl don’t understand the realities of living during those times. Alcohol wasted so many young men and women who had so much talent and potential. Drugs, like heroin, killed many also. Our parents were struggling to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. They gave us some guidance, but peer pressure was all-powerful. Regrets abound, as those of us who survived found long prison sentences, followed by death from liver disease.
@@conradmaceopleasant Saturday morning. It's her who doesn't understand. However, this is still the case and even worse now so then or now people keep making choices that don't help them and decide to blame others for their actions when they have to face the consequences of their actions. If we stop blaming others for our choices life will be great.
I saw this in the Movie about the Temptations. Quite sad for him and it serves as an example of the work and dues behind the glitz and glamor the public sees and Celebrate's.
David Ruffin, with his singular voice was what they needed for success. Unfortunately, David had to be replaced because of his addiction. Sad for everyone concerned.
The greatest male group of all times Dennis didn’t hurt cloud 9 But David would always be remembered as the tempting Temptation R I P my brother thank G-D for Big O to keep the music playing!!!!😊❤
It is sad hearing these stories because back then it was not much support in terms of emotional in particularly for blacks even among their own people I happy to see nowadays there are more choices instead of getting into the music business. It is a tough ruthless business not meant for everyone.
It's ironic that Paul took up drinking after that and ultimately committed suicide. David got on drugs and destroyed himself . There's a hefty price to pay for STARDOM. One thing for sure, however, THE TEMPTATIONS will be remembered n loved for generations to come.😢
Al who I never knew that there was a lead singer or a singer before David Ruffin they let out go because they said I was bad news and then they had your David Ruffin who could sing his brother but then later on David started tripping when the group's name to be changed to David Ruffin and The temptations and then one of his own car not wanting to ride with the rest of the group well you know what maybe they should have just keep Al❤❤all these dead beat 🪘🪘 artist but after all I will always 💘love me some My Girl 😢
The Temptations bill themselves as a group without a true lead singer. They all could lead. But some lead more than others. Paul and Eddie split most of the leads before David came. And still after, they each had leads. Al only had one lead and it was a co-lead with Paul. He did more in live shows.
Got it backwards. David was in the Revue, along with Eddie and Dennis... Dennis carried it with other singers after they died. Otis has the real Temptations who continued to record. Tribute acts don't record albums.
@Cadeho3 I don't think so. The Reunion Tour is what you're referring to. The Classic Five created the hit repertoire that Otis and his succession of replacement singers perform in their shows. Recording has nothing to do with it. What hit song did these guys record? I didn't think so. What Otis is doing is no different from what Dennis Edwards, Damon Harris, Glenn Leonard, and other former members did. Put together a band and a group and toured dancing and singing to the hit songs made famous by the Classic Five: A Temptations Revue! Otis retained rights to the Temptations name and brand, but a name and brand does not a legacy make. In this case, the legacy is David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, and Otis. They performed the songs that made the name and the brand famous.
@bustabass9025 no not the Reunion tour. The Temptations Revue originally included David, Eddie, and Dennis. I remember it being only Dennis during the time the real group had their last album for Motown out, Legacy. The message board I belong to then was going crazy over David Sea who supposedly sounded so much like David Ruffin. He was a member of the Temptations Revue. Otis' group is the actual group, not a tribute. They are still putting out new music. Tributes do not do that. And you forget they had many hits without David. Heck I've heard Treat Her Like a Lady at several places in the last few days. The last time I saw them, they performed it. They don't just rely on the oldest songs. A lot of classic long-lasting acts have had some kind of split and have splinter acts, but it doesn't negate the original. Like a more recent group, En Vogue split. Terry and Cindy carry on as the original group with Rhona while Dawn and Maxine have tried to assemble their version of En Vogue. The original group has continued recording while the I believe they have called themselves the Heirs to the Throne version of En Vogue are definitely tribute, not releasing any new material and only focusing on the old hits.
@Cadeho3 What Ruffin Kendricks, and Edwards did is exactly my point. They formed another iteration of the group and toured singing the songs their voices made famous. Woodson contributed to a hit song with his vocals, yes. I would give these guys the nod before Otis. They were lead singers. He was a mediocre lead singer at best, the two or three times he tried. However, the rest of these dudes are only impersonators of the Classic Five lineup plus Dennis and Ali. Otis is getting paid for the songs that other members of the group made famous. They are only Temptations in name because legally, they can be called that. Their shows are 99% composed of songs recorded and made hits by the aforementioned singers. The letter of the law is not what I hear when David, Eddie, Paul, Dennis, and Ali sing the original songs that made The Temptations famous. I hear the music that shaped sweet and psychedelic soul, and created the real memories of Motown.
After being fired he tried to put together a group but they wasn’t successful and disbanded shortly he continued his job as a milkman but also his drinking problem only got worse and on October 26th 1975 at the age of 36 he died of cirrhosis of liver in a trailer park in Florida
