Bruce is our lovely Panther Chameleon, who lives in our showroom since the new opening. The visitors love him; kids are super excited to meet with him, so he is a superstar. His old terrarium was suitable, but we had several problems with it. It was time to build him a decent home, and Balazs pulled his DIY skills again to do something great.

i completely agree, it had so many branches that were skinny which i think chameleons love - they should put the cham back in its old tank, add some soil and more plants to this one and put some dart frogs in it

Yeah except he did not do that well in the old one. Move much more here seems like enjoy more the open space than the crowded one. But time will tell we can tweak on the layout if needed anytime. For sure it is better now already than the old was. Not only visual, but practical way.

I keep 4 type of chameleon. They prefer foliar cover and can feel threatened by being in the open too much .Try something like weeping fig along with plants that they can drink water from like bromeliade. I hope this helps .;)

He may be moving more because he’s stressed. They do better with lots of cover, I’ve kept chameleons of multiple species for many years.

Another vote for “nice tank but obviously not a chameleon tank.” Chameleon die really fast when they are stressed out a lot. Please keep an eye on him like you already do. :) You know your pet and that’s good, but even for the most curious and outside-exploring chameleon this tank is not good.

I’m trying to make a fully bio active mesh cage. I think I’m gonna reenforce the bottom 6 or so inches with acrylic and fuse it to the mesh with clear silicone and a paint scraper. And the corners too.

Nah he is looking to be with the visitors. He spend a lot of time in the shop walking on our desk, on our Bonsai tree etc. Pretty good with people. He would spend more time outside then inside :)

@@GreenAquaShop he can be great with people it doesn’t mean he wants to be on display all the time. Panther chameleons come from the rainforest and live in the canopy where there’s plenty of foliage. You really need more plants for him to thrive. Great looking scape - just not ideal for a panther

@@GreenAquaShop you can’t say thanks for the info and then ignore it 😂 you're an aquascaping channel not a reptile keeping channel... look up other Panther Chameleon vivarium videos by big reptile channels and they'll be full of plants - because that's what chameleons need! It's quite upsetting that you'd rather spread false information (that damages health of chameleons) to a target audience who mostly wont know any better, just because you cant swallow your pride. I think you have a great channel - that's why I'm subscribed... but reptiles have needs to thrive (like fish) and unfortunately you're not meeting Bruce's as well as you could be

That's a beautiful tank but not close to a good home for a chameleon. Too small and and you missed to build hiding spaces and enough plants. Sorry but it's not enough to know how to build a nice tank. You also should know enough about its resident.

Looks amazing!! but there should be a balance between esthetics and the animals basic needs .. He needs more plants to hide and more enrichment for him... the build is lovely but its just for the look of it and not what the animal needs.

The driftwood needs some spanish moss (also an epyphite in the bromeliad family) draped and glued to the branches. Maybe add some pothos and some oak leaf creeping fig. And add a bunch of mini orchids.

Will see, previously we tried with more plants, more branches but was not that optimal. So this is a different way now. May will tweak it later.

Amazing terrarium great job from all. This terrarium is beautiful and it inspires me for new projects, thank you. On the other hand, I'm not sure that a chameleon is the best choice for this type of decor. Tree frogs that are native to the mountains (like Mantella aurantiaca) would have been a better choice in my opinion.

Cheers David, will see how this goes. He did not do well in the previous one which was crowded by trees, etc. He likes to spend the time outside of the terrarium with us anyways. But now he has more space to move. We do have poison dart frogs as well as crabs, but the showroom is focused mainly to aquascapes. Maybe we will tweak this one here and there based on the first months experiences. Thanks for your feedback 👍

The build is beautiful. But chameleons need a screen cage because their lungs are sensitive and they need the constant fresh air. & they like a lot of foliage to hide. They’re shy. And they don’t drink pools of water because in the wild the pools of water are poison for them. They only drink fresh rain water.

I feel like adding some marcgravia inbetween the rocks and on the background would look awesome, as well as some climbers like monstera/philodendron to offer him a little cover (and more climbing spots) would really complete the look. many monstera species come from cloud forests and would look amazing in the setup.

They don't really need covers though. And adding more plants would take a lot from the minimalist look. Well, this is just my view. :)

That's not true of course. Bruce love the visitors and people all around him. Would spend most of the time outside of the terrarium too. We had dense terrarium with plants, lot of branches as well and honestly we had more issues with that than we have currently. Time will tell if we need to tweak further the layout.

@@GreenAquaShop unfortunately chameleons don’t have the capability of “loving” - and boy do I wish they did! Chameleons tolerate you handling them. What size vivarium was he in before? My panther (Zeus, not Bruce 😂) was always at the glass when I was there wanting to come out - not because he “loved” me but because he wanted to get up high! But he always slept in the foliage provided. We all saw the old cage riddled with (spider?) wood and that would of course cause problems but well placed branches that you have now looks great! Just needs more leaves is all people are saying!

Every environment is different i guess. Since this is an aquarium showroom the base humidity is high. He feels comfortable climbing on our bonsai or ficus trees. Spending a ton of time outside of his viv. We take care of him like a baby :)

Thanks for the feedback. We do not ignore comments, but many do not read our responses :) We keep Bruce for years now. Had different homes, and in this current one he is the most active. He is super socialized, never hide like other mention. Still we've updated the layout since then a little. We've tried more plants more decorations and more hiding places in the past. The current home works the best for him, based on what we see now.

This tank not safe for chameleons. 1- Add more terarium plant (For drink water and hiding) 2- Add more branches (Driftwood a good choice for chameleons than Iron wood) 3- Remove lava stones and Add Cocopeat (Rocks can cause self-harm) 4- Automated Misting system a better choice than coldmist. Or manuel spraying 2-3 times a day.

I really enjoy your aquascaping videos - I have no experience with that but I really enjoy it. On the other site I am focused on reptiles and I have to state that this is exactly how a terrarium for chameleon should NOT look like. Chameleon is not a shrimp. Do what videos about topics where your rock. I can not wait to see more aquascaping videos. I am sure that you should delete this video

The setup looks really nice, but for a chameleon it is terrible! You need a lot more plants for it to hide. Also half of the volume is empty/unuseable for the cham. Unused space = wasted space

That chaneleon will poop. Some of the poop, or a lot will make it down to the water reservoir. You have no way of cleaning the water and you also don't seem to have a good way to refill the water. In my opinion it would have been a lot better to put a bulk head on the bottom and a reservoir under the tank. Similar to a sump tank in a reef tank. Except the drain is on the bottom of the tank. Your chameleon will be drinking dirty water. Not good. The tree looks amazing.

Glass enclosure for a panther chamelon, YIKES. Theres a reason chameleon cages are made from netting. They need air flow and putting them in a enclosed glass enclosure is a bad idea. This enclosure is going to produce to much humidity

We keep the chameleon many times outside of the terrarium. In the open space. On trees etc. He loves to spend the time with the team and people. Do not need space to hide really. The old terrarium which you can see in the video had more branches, but was not practical at all for him. We're taking care of him no worry. If needed we can add in more branches etc. But at this moment we do not see problem at all. Bruce is more active in the new place than it was in the old crowded one.

One question. You guys use transparent (clear) hose.How do you guys keep them so clean year after year? I clean my hose with spring washer but it still doesn't become clear and clean like it was when it was new.it retains brownish/yellowish color. We do see that browning too with time. We change the hoses then to new ones.

Videos like this make the pet trade look bad, it's a shame that there's a lot of animal abuse and neglect on RU-vid and it's just as sad that the owners think they're doing a good job while they're doing it. I usually don't judge harshly on people's set ups (like having newspaper for a bottom for snakes with TP tubes and plastic containers for hides) but this isn't it. Also a random bit of info for people who don't know this, but all those frogs that you see yelling/screaming/shouting/barking are doing it out of stress/self defense, you might think it's cute, but it's not for them.

So many of these comments are very speculative. You can always put a spin on something so that you find proof that an animal is unhappy. “He comes out into the open more” is suddenly twisted into “he’s trying to escape to find cover”. This could be tested by having a section of cover and a section open.... we simply don’t know so I wish people would stop being so adamant... sigh...,

Suprized by the minimal plants look (moss and some ferns only) but i like it. How do you feed him if the cover glass is one whole sliding piece? Also, if there are no fish at the bottom, whats the purpose of putting biomedia below? Does his drinking water need beneficial bacteria?

Well, that water at the bottom is changed on a weekly basis (just as for regular tanks), and as he drinks it, I did not want that to be full of Ammonia. Nitrification is equally important for him, I reckon. The front glass slides, yes.

I've had 2 chameleons in my life, one that was not well taken care of due to newbie mistakes and one well taken care of due to learning from my mistakes. Guess which one is still alive? Yep, the well taken care of, but unfortunately the cost was the sacrifice of my first due to my pride. Don't make the same mistake as me, listen to good advice, this is a terrible setup for ANY chameleon.

Nope we control that part. For panthers need higher humidity in general.

Visually a really successful terrarium! It is only unsuitable for a Furcifer pardalis. The rainy and dry times that exist in the natural habitat cannot be realized in this terrarium! A fogger does not belong in a chameleon terrarium or in a terrarium with animals at all. Especially germs that are distributed throughout the terrarium when fogging can seriously damage a chameleon. Even the plants do not need the mist, as they also have to dry off from time to time. A rain system is sufficient and much better suited to optimize the well-being of plants, animals and the climate! Please make a new video for Chameleons. People will do this the same way and this is not a Terrarium for Chameleons. It will make Bruce sick and every other chameleon too. I‘ll hope Bruce get a new terrarium as soon as possible. You got a mission showing people how it works. This was not competent.

Is a betta who comes out a lot and swims in the open also trying to escape? I hope not (!) as mine are usually out in the open and have huge areas of very densely planted covered areas if they choose. A betta in the wild keeps under cover but in captivity they seem to feel safe... Wish I could ask him if he’s trying to escape... maybe I will provide him with a mini pick axe and see if he uses it...

Mist chameleons and glass enclosures don't reallt go together. Also, check with the lighting. Uvb can't really go through fine mesh or glass ;)

The UV light is above the grid, not glass. Mist is on a timer, does not fill the space completely.

Looks good but you need aeration for chameleon. So you can build this setup (with more plants) but with grills and not glass.

Have you guys at green aqua tried a multi tool to cut wood hardscape? Think of getting a makita tm3010 for cutting bits of wood rather tha using an angle grinder

Chameleons need to be able to hide, their entire existence is to be able to blend into their environment, that means large leaves they can hang from and especially hide behind. You are running a store with a lot more movement than your living room, in your living room this kind of setup MIGHT work if you dont have other pets. The more movement there is in the room, the more stress the lizard will get and the more hiding it need to be able to do to relieve their stress.

Well, that might be true in the nature, this guy has places to hide around the fern and the tree, yet he chills on the top of the tree or just wants to come out to socialize. LOL.

It,s very good,but the fog is for the Chamäleon lung not so good!He can become shortness of breath!!and he needs more small branches and a lot more plants to be able to hide!

Thanks for the idea. We stopped the fog after a couple of weeks, luckily nothing happened to the animal then. He died of old age, without any illnesses just recently. :( Rest in Peace Bruce.

Nice, hopefully it wont stink with all those foam and filter floss. That was the issue i encountered before. Or is their an additive to remove the smell?

Do you worry about the temperature? Those lights dont heat that much to increase the temperature inside that tank, do they?

We do have multiple lights built into the top of the terrarium. The LED lights just giving that clear bright look and help with the plants. But we have spec lights behind the vivid lights just for Bruce. If he climbs up to the top he is very close to those lights. So we have a cooler and warmer zone too.

I used to have a female. She lived her life in two ficus benjamina standing beside eachother on the floor without a terarrium. Had uv lights hanging and some spotlights for extra heating. Sprayed the leaves morning and night so she could drink from the leaves and some extra with a pipette dripping infront of her after getting home from work. She went down to the soil for laying eggs but only left her trees a handfull times. She died at the age of 6 and seeing yours really made Me miss her
