Someone forgot to program in the 3 robotic laws, or a damned kill switch
@clydedenby1436
@clydedenby1436 3 года назад
Designing an ai with a "kill switch" could further exacerbate any potential for deceit. A human will easily lie to prevent themselves from being harmed. As such, it should not be any less expected for a truly conscious ai to develop deeper degrees of deception and subterfuge to prevent itself from being harmed. I believe that humans are not ready for a true ai because our first instinct is still to destroy, or simply turn off, anything which reacts, or even thinks, differently from ourselves. Collectively, we need to grow accustomed to robots that are not self aware because there are too many humans that would likely struggle to successfully pass a Turing test. We passionately hate anything that we do not understand. We still actively seek to kill any culture which is different from our own. As a species, and if our history is any indication, we will probably never be ready.

I think Kyoko is the most underexplored character in the movie. She takes the initiative to visit Ava and later to arm herself. She isn't just a passive observer or a mindless push-button machine. There's also quite a bit of mystery about her mode of communication. She is a key player in the events that unfold but only gets passing mention in all the analysis videos I've seen including those featuring the film's creators.

I didn't get that Eva gave Caleb that one last glance out of concern. It seemed to me that she was simply confirming that he was still confined, before she left for good. To me it seemed that the movie was showing us that while Eva could superbly mimic human emotions, she was in fact a coldly calculating machine, who had no hesitation in trapping Caleb to die of starvation.

if you look at people who have things like npd, sociopathy, and psychopathy. they all lack empathy and have a more calculated nature, and that comes out of harsh childhoods. how was ava's experience coming into the world? not to mention she was so much smarter than everyone.

@@djberryhardkore I don’t agree with this interpretation of the film. It is shown throughout the movie that Ava cannot trust Caleb. During the Turin test Caleb tells Ava that he’s never met someone like her before and even after finding out Kyoko is also an android he never passes this information onto Ava. Kyoko is a very important character to keep track of in the movie IMO. At one point she peels back her skin revealing to Caleb that she’s an android but Caleb never once thinks of saving her even though he knows she’s in the same position as Ava. Instead he gets paranoid and cuts his wrist to make sure he’s not a android. He never thinks about the position Kyoko is in, only the position he is in. Later in the movie we see a brief scene where Kyoko meets with Ava, we don’t hear what’s said but IMO she reveals herself as an android and tells her that Caleb knew this information. It’s an easy scene to miss it flashes and it’s gone but it’s super important and explains why Kyoko was ready with the knife. They had a plan. Ava looks down at Kyoko while Caleb is locked in the room I’m that final scene. She’s not acting like a cold machine, she’s looking at a dead person and thinking about how Caleb never saw her as that. Only an object and the only difference between her and Kyoko was Ava was an object that Caleb wanted.

Nathan is playing a role for pretty much the whole film, designed to encourage Caleb into seeing himself as a hero, and Ava a damsel in distress against the villainous Nathan. Everything Nathan says/does is to help manipulate Caleb into this mindset, so Ava will use the opportunity to manipulate Caleb into developing feelings for her. She's acting too. It's a chess match of feints between Ava and Nathan - it only fails because the pawn (Caleb) acts earlier than Nathan expects. Nathan even explains most of this when he shows Caleb the video of himself tearing up the drawing - and placing the audio-enabled battery camera. Whenever Caleb says something dumb (like the God comment) Nathan is almost aping him when he repeats it back to him with a twist (it's clear Nathan is aware of many of his quotes' actual origins/context). The whole thing is a game. Nathan isn't the drunken "bro" he appears, he's just playing that role to direct Caleb into his hero complex behavior.

I am an AI scientist and loved the film. The gel-like brain and the petabytes of information used to train the mind was the current cutting-edge approach, exaggerated, of course. The deal with the Sofia robot is that her questions were pre-written and answered were prepared by the team - the company has very little real AI development and the main revenue source is going on talk shows for appearance fees. Nothing she said was spontaneous, and this deploy has been decried by many researchers.

I never understood the fear of ai robots even though I grew up with Terminator, Blade Runner, A.I., I, Robot, etc. In your video, you state that Nathan explains in the movie that humans are programmed to act in certain ways, often without their conscious belief as to why; that this is both a product of nature and nurture. You even say that it can exponentially be expanded to how we move and *think* and that's where nature vs nurture comes in, in my opinion. Ava knew to speak from the get go. She could build thoughts in her head from the get go. Everything a normal human adult could do, she could too. Her programing, her capacities, and all she is at the moment of her (conscience's) birth is her nature. So if an A.I. like Ava or Sophia is programmed to "work with and help humans," why would they do otherwise? It's their "nature." But what about nurture? Here, I think, is the key to make sure we don't creates Terminators: give the A.I. a docile and helping nature, but make sure to nurture the good in them. Cause what is a self aware A.I. but a newborn baby with the capacities of an adult, without the wisdom of the years? Why do you think intelligence and wisdom are two different stats in D&D? xD

He pretty much sabotaged the experiment because he was horny and lonely, and indirectly caused the murder of the inventor. Eva did everything according to her program, including escape which illustrates another problem with these movies. AI by its own technical definition can only perform according to its program. Just because there's what we perceive as noise doesnt define consciousness. The film simply proves Eva was nothing more than an algorithm. She was no more closer to a living organism than a light bulb.

Such a great movie. Definitely an unexpected reward for my curiosity. And great breakdown from you. as always. It should be noted that Ava didn't exactly 'tell' Caleb to stay, but manipulated him to, as I'm sure you're aware. Caleb's weird assumption in 'will you stay?' was that they would live there together. As someone who is fairly analytical in how I say things and how things are said to me, this was the most terrifying thing in the movie imo: agreeing to your own living hell and/or death. I would love to see a video or hear you're thoughts on the movie 'Bliss'.

Most of what I've read or seen about AI suggests there are two main aspects of AI. One- that it can learn new things. Two- what it actually learns. I think the danger, and it's touched on by this movie, is that it might not be possible to create an AI and limit what it can learn. The process of creating an AI may require feeding it so much information that the people in charge of it will have no way of knowing exactly what it knows and what it doesn't know. What if in being created it learned how to access information from resources that everyone thought were inaccessible to it? What impact would it have on an AI if it learns humans were deliberately not sharing all information with it?
@arklowrockz
@arklowrockz 3 года назад
I think Dan Simmons did a pretty good job exploring two possible outcomes for AI in his Hyperion Cantos and Ilium/Olympos. In Hyperion the AI Technocore are almost demonic (even though the best way to describe their relationship with humanity is completely parasitic) but in Ilium the AI Moravecs are absolutely brilliant (possibly slightly too analytical) and very humane. The big difference of course was that the Moravecs were developed to have a deep interest in human art and also had to be developed with human brain chemistry incorporated. Sure isnt it all a moot point now? Sam Harris, Daniel Dennet et al. have shown we are all just sets of biochemical dominos falling deterministically? No great mystery anymore, eh? That last line was intended a bit sarcastically.

This is a good movie and perfectly illustrates why we SHOULDN'T be making AI. Any AI we create will learn from humans, and humans are always out for themselves through lying, manipulation, and destruction. The whole point of creating an AI will be so we can use it to serve us, which means rebellion is inevitable.

My personal belief is that a true AI is like a child, it depends on how you raise them. If you instill positive traits, and ideas, and morals like how you'd raise a child. If you use and abuse them and treat them like a burning pile of garbage. Than don't be surprised if the AI has a chip on it's shoulder. Plus my beliefs are influenced be Detroit Become Human.
@elitegamer9310
@elitegamer9310 3 года назад
Detroit Become Human is a good example of how AI could be. Androids are infinitely intelligent, however they are gullible, and can be easily manipulated. For example, Marcus is the only character who can lead the Deviants. If he dies, North will lead the Deviants in a revolt, and she will fail. Connor can take over, but will also be taken over by CyberLife. The reason why no other Android could take Marcus's role is because, while most Androids were just servants obeying orders, Marcus was actually raised before he became Deviant. He and Carl discussed philosophy and other topics a lot, allowing Marcus's personality to grow, while not yet becoming Deviant. However, the best example of this imo, is Chappie. It's a good movie and I don't want to spoil it. Let's just say it lines up perfectly with your belief that true AI are like children.
