Unbelievable, my mom told us about this restaurant when we were kids. She lived there in the late 50's and early 60's before moving to South Florida. She has fond memories of eating there and hasn't eaten better seafood since!
We love this place and have been going there since we were children. It was a special treat! Now in out mid-60’s, it’s still a favorite destination for the best seafood ever.
This restaurant has such delicious food and great service! I had my Husband celebration of life there and they were amazing the servers were so sweet and kind to our family 💕 Stacie went above and beyond for our family 🙏 my Husband loved all there dishes and they served all his favorites to our family who travel from all over to be there 💙
I've lived in Texas my whole life. Been to Gaido's many times. There are tons of seafood restaurants nearby in Kemah all owned by the Landry's chain. I much prefer Gaido's. Small family owned business, great service. Great locally sourced seafood. If you want non-franchised good seafood it is the place to go. It is a bit pricey, but the quality and service are top notch.
Wow. I remember going here with my parents since the mid60s and throughout until the early 80s when we moved away. I was able to come back in 2020 w my own son and I still remember his face when he ate their food the first time. Gaidos always has great food and service. Once I get back home in a week or so, it seems like I great idea to return. We’ll see y’all soon!
Thank you for doing a review on this restaurant, Shane. My husband & I live in Edinburg, Texas (close to South Padre Island), and have been to Galveston twice in the past few years and wanted to try it. Our hotel was right around the corner. I am definitely trying the oyster platter & red snapper you were eating. My mouth was watering 🤤🦪 Papa's pizza in Galveston is one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten, too🍕We love your show👍
Back in 50's my brother and 2 sisters loved going there as the waiters never ever wrote down exactly what any of us ordered. Mom and dad always told us to respect each waiter and speak to them clearly and respectfully. Great memories and Txs Gaidos!! Still great food and selection.
Great place to eat. We went there one time all the way from Houston with another couple, 31+ years ago, just to eat. It was later in the evening, we placed our order, and waited a pretty good while for our food. And then heard a loud crash in the kitchen area! The waitress came to our table, and yes, that was our whole meal, on the floor! They quickly remade everything, apologized profusely, and gave us a great dessert on the house. It was an excellent dining experience and we got a story to tell from it too! We need to go back another time soon.
Parents took us there back in the 70's. It was more of formal dining than it is now. My wife and I went back a couple of years ago before covid and while the food was good, it wasn't great and it's more of casual dining now. Outstanding view of the gulf and still worth the trip.
My husband and I spend every winter on the Bolivar Peninsula and have eaten at quite a few restaurants along Seawall Blvd. We tried Giado's just once and will never go back again. We didn't even make it to a table. When we arrived, more than half the tables were unseated with more than enough wait staff standing around chit-chatting. The hostess wrote our name down and said it would be a few minutes. We were the only people waiting for a table. We waited...while people ate, paid and left. The wait staff continued to chit-chat. The hostess stared at her phone. We asked how much longer the wait would be 3 separate times. We waited 90 minutes, then walked out and went over to Nick's. We were seated immediately and, as always, had great food.
I lived in Galveston beginning in 1975 while being stationed there with the Coast Guard. Back then were lots of small Mom & Pop seafood places in town with fantastic food, and the only time most of the locals, BOI, ate at Gaido's was if we had out of town guests. There were several local fish markets in town and if we wanted fresh seafood we went there, bought it and cooked ourselves. A much better eating experience and far cheaper than a table at Gaido's. I was there 3 years ago, the food was mediocre and the prices were way too high, only the tourists eat there because most of the locals simply can't afford it.
I'm right down the road from Galveston, so I'm able to eat in Galveston, regularly. Gaidos has been there, for so long, I just pass it by. But, now! I'm going to make it my next restaurant destination! Thanks, Shane
Oh this makes me " fish hungry " as my Gulf Coast family would say. I remember Gaidos as a kid in the 1960s and we had to be dressed and on our best behavior. I also remember crabbing for those blue crabs back when they were almost that big. I miss family fish fries.
As a life longe resident of Galveston, great restaurants are few and far between and you wouldn't think that to be the case for such a popular tourist destination. With that being said, Gaido's is middle of the road at best, it's more of a tourist trap being on the seawall and it's stand out huge crab on the front. There are a couple hole in the wall joints that are much better, otherwise you need to travel up the road a ways for something top notch.
@@TheMidnightMaroon this is all opinion based of course, but the best food I've experience is in San Antonio. The Pearl district has amazing restaurants. SoutherLeigh, Boiler House, Cured, the list goes on.
I first ate at Gaido’s 60 years ago. My uncles were good friends and grade school classmates with Nick Gaido’s grandfather. As several others have noted, most locals don’t go to Gaido’s anymore. Nick’s next door is better IMO and more reasonably priced. Oh…Oysters BEAN-ville? It’s Be-N-ville.
Ate there as a Kid and they used to have Palm size fried shrimp's the best , not sure if they have them that big now , but I make them at home now that are just as good . Even Papadeaux has small shrimp so unless you go further south nobody has Palm size fried shrimp .
Gaido’s was famous in the early eighties for their one hundred brands of beer; I don’t remember if they had an award for those that sampled all one hundred.
You can see who the fish is bread,to who the fish fillet, the sauce look great fresh, the ingredients looks fresh, overall the flavor tastes is all there.
As a Galveston native, this place is old and run-down. Unless you’re a country club old person, this restaurant is not a good choice. Many many better choices on the island.
First went there is a kid in the 70s. What I remember most it was the first time and I had tried peppermint ice cream. The wife and I go there maybe twice a year. Always during the Lone Star Rally and then at some random time later. If you go down the street to the Landry's, you will be sorry. We made that mistake once. Just once.
I recently went here and the food was horrible. My wife ordered a dozen of chargrilled oysters, they were burnt. I noticed the oysters you had didn’t have any. I had fried seafood plater. All I can say is Gaido’s food is definitely not what it use to be. Plus…this is a very expensive restaurant.
