Was this ROM put through the SM64 ROM extender or is it an extended ROM in general? If so, Tiny Huge Island has issues with extended SM64 ROMs.

one thing i swear i remember from mario 64 ds was i was able to jump in the left snowmman painting when i was 4 but then i quit the game and and tryed to do it again and couldnt

I thought that face disappearing issues were pretty rare, I was playing super smash Bros 64 but when it came to character select, almost all of them don't have faces, and when I started to play the bg was bugging pretty hard. Also I was using an emulator on my phone tho.

I think the reason why the game freaks out in that specific level is due to the coins being an animated object. There are too much animations to render at the same time since you changed all the objects to coins so the game starts to go nuts because it's not supposed to render this many animations (even if the number of objects in the level is the same), and considering how complex and kinda small to render Tiny Huge Island is as a level it's not surprising that it only happens there and not in other levels too The reason why i think it's because of animations is because this issue reminded me of Halo: Basically if you go in Forge (mainly on Halo: Reach) and start to heavily overload the map with stuff and in particular animated objects and particles, the game engine starts to unload lots of things, including animations, rendered weapons, skybox, water and sometimes even the hud, in order to prevent the ram to fill up and cause a game crash

At this point Im starting to feel bad for mario. Imagine waking up in a warp pipe, Lakitu above you. Actually, you cant see anything- you're eyes are gone, same with your mustache, sideburns and mouth. As you are possesed and doing things you can't control (referencing the player controlling Mario), you can't hear you're brother, Luigi. He's been gone for 24 years. You cannot scream. You cannot run. Then the player decides to turn every object into a coin for some reason. As SM64 overflows in memory usage, you spend your final moments in Tiny Huge Island, where the world around you crumbles. The only way you can see youre current physical (and mental) health (the health bar) disappears, when you eventually die. You spawn above the clouds, in the final moments of life, when you see Luigi. Before you can say anything, its over. Then, the player decides to respawn you, and keep torturing you until you seek of a true vengance. Using all of your energy to be able to control yourself, you start runningto the castle. You open the doors to the basement where the opening to Dire, Dire Docks is. As your rival, Wario, appears before you, you cry "END ME!!" Wario eats you. Finally, it's all over.

seems like the gpu ran out of memory, my guess is that it has something to do with the fact that coins have an animation, so each coin would have to have its state in the animation stored on the gpu, it's also possible that they use even more memory, or that the rom hack lead to the view distance culling not working for the coins.

Hey Swanky, I love each one of your videos. Each new one continues to amaze me. From the in-depth investigation you do, to trying to replicate each observation and event, your work is truly outstanding. If I may I'd like to ask for your help. I was playing dark souls remastered on an xbox one console, everything seemed normal and fine until one particular boss. The 2nd boss is a pair of gargoyles, and until today (8/14/2020) I only knew that one npc was able to assist you in the boss fight. I read online that there is a 2nd npc that can be summoned to fight this boss. If you rescue him in the same building where the boss is, leave and come back, he should be available to assist you. I did just that, rescued this npc left the area and then came back. I found an odd location for an npc to be summoned, this npc's name is Solaire of Astora. His summon sign was located next to an elevator, I asked myself "why is this here?" and proceeded to summon him. I initially thought this was another online player until I saw its behavior. The way this thing acted confirmed that it was not a player, but an npc. It moved only when I moved, its attacks were robotic, and often moonwalked or slid across the floor. These characteristics are impossible to be found in a player. Before entering the boss room I found another summon sign, I took a look at it and to my surprise it was Solaire. I summoned him and I was then running around with 2 identical Solaire npcs. What made this new solaire different was that it was in the correct location as opposed to the other one. I should also mention, the npc I saved (his name is "Lautrec") was nowhere to be found. I was stuck with 2 Solaires. Things got even weirder in the boss room. The three of us easily overpowered the boss and we won in less than 20 min. Normally when a boss is killed in dark souls all summons have a "fading away" effect. The real Solaire was fading away, but the other Solaire had no animation. Its as if his model was deleted mid game, he was just gone. I observed only 1 npc fading away. Granted this fading animation is fast, both npcs should have faded away at the exact same time. Unfortunately all I have to offer as proof is a picture. This is very sad for me because any random person online can have their buddy cosplay as an npc next to the actual npc. As of right now I am trying to replicate this glitch and catch it on video to provide more concrete evidence in the future. If it is ok, I'd like to reach out to you Swanky and ask you for help. This is the first time I've ever seen a glitch in a dark souls game, and I don't think it has ever been recorded or even mentioned online. Please help me with this very frustrating event. I'd like to investigate it further, but this is not my specialty. I do not know where else to begin besides trying to replicate it. You, Swanky, are the only person I know that can truly help me get to the bottom of this. -MegamanX17

I had something happened similar happen to me when I was playing super Mario 64 DS and went into the mario painting as Yoshi and the textures were extremely glitched including yoshi. It wasn’t the first time I entered the painting the music was fine but the enemy and yoshi Sound effects were distorted and after collecting a star it crashed when I went back lt was normal and can never recreate it, there was nothing wrong with the cartage it was fairly new at the time

Plot twist: The Game render engine needs to render the eyes "Picture" Including the M on the hat those are like mini pixel art of something the reason it got corrupted is that let's say you color a Block or a Part and it's a single color widespread into it with no picture however the land the grass and stuff IS in fact a TEXTURE and when the texture isn't loading it just sadly Failed to do so the Grass contains Pixel of a texture the pipes are different they are a colored pipes with circle parts or cylindrical parts that just uses color the reason the land is black and mario's face and hat is gone is that the Texture failed to load when handling many parts or more the audio stopped playing probably the Console/Emulator tried it's best trying to play the corrupted file and the Graphics isn't much focused at all probably the code for texture loading isn't working and is corrupted including the audio that it tried to play

Imagine this haooening to you while playing Mario 64 back when it came out and not being able to find any forums online talking about it.

I have a theory that might somewhat explain why the anomaly occurred, maybe the issue isn’t the amount of objects in the stage, but the amount of objects being loaded at once that causes the issue. My guess is that enemies (and other objects) in SM64 only load once you get within a certain distance of where they’re supposed to be while coins (unless collected) are permanently loaded, causing the memory to overflow.

The anomalous square graphic was caused from simple hex code overflow when the code for cueing a splash animation is miscounted and overflows putting values into another screen element like the health bar. Apparently in script the line of code for the secondary status animations on the mario model are close to the health bar line of code. Somehow the coin codes messes up a counter somewhere and probably dumps a bunch of 0s in the wrong places

I am pretty sure the glitched graphic at 6:28 is the health meter because I played it back ant it is in the EXACT same position that the health bar is. the blue is the actual meter because when you are in the water, It turns blue, and the green is the background of the health meter so the game can display it in properly because the health meter is one image but when you take damage, it changes to a different image, so it has the green as kinda like a greenscreen so the game can display it properly

I was playing this game recently and something slightly odd happened. I had just beaten the first Bowser fight and bljd through the star door and endless staircase. But upon entering the stage, the audio was COMPLETELY muted for the Entire Stage. But after leaving and coming back everything returned to normal.

My computer locked up at 5:47 I was half asleep and just thought you did that as a creepy effect apparently not I had to reboot it creeped me out 😅

Creepy real story here: When I was like 10 or so, while playing on the console, I was in the castle hall. At one point, music became a jumbled mess, Mario rotated sideways and clipped halfway through the ground and his eyes became X's like he was dead, then the game crashed or I switched down the console, I don't remember well, since we talk about a thing that happened probably in 2004-2007. That scared me a lot, I didn't touch that game for at least a year. It was probably caused by a RAM corruption or a rusty cartridge pin, but that day I really was thinking that the cartridge could be possessed or something.

Swanky! I had the same situation (but i played SM64 on emulator)! Sometimes, the sounds disappeared from game, but I think its emulator problem. BUT, sometimes, when I turned on the game, textures went away! Then I restart emulator, and game was normal. That was pretty spooky, but I thought that its just emulator bug.

I'm sure that strange texture was Bup trying to escape the game.

I've heard about similar glitches when trying to mod the game for challenge videos. From what I've heard, it has something to do with the game trying to load both versions of the island at once
