It's always nice to see my home city in video games. Pre-WW2 Warsaw is especially interesting because over 80% of Warsaw was destroyed by Nazis during WW2 so it's nice to see it reconstructed in a video game. The devs must've put a lot of effort to recreate old Warsaw so huge respect for them.

@mauriciohiure2192 Exactly. I'm sick of seeing "worst game of the year"; "this or another company is destroying video games" "everything was better twenty years ago" in the thumbnails. Video games are there to entertain and enjoy, not to divide people and create absurd controversies.

I was always a point-and-click adventure player, so I basically swallowed this game in one sitting. For me, it was really good. Yes, I also found the same issues you mentioned, but at the same time, I wasn't bothered at all. I am definitely recommending this game; the story is pretty cool, there are 6 endings, and multiple choices throughout the whole story. Yes, I am pleased! Thanks for this review; I am almost at 100% completion myself. Great content!
@ChristmasLore
@ChristmasLore 6 месяцев назад
What exactly are "point&click", are there many games in the genre? Which ones do you play/are your favorites? I think I played some (Sherlock Holmes- the Lovecraft one, The Chant, Heavy Rain)?
@Galiwarix
@Galiwarix 6 месяцев назад
@@ChristmasLore Hey, I can recommend something like: Unawoved - Also offers multiple choices, a story-driven point-and-click experience. Black Mirror - Not many choices, but still a very good horror story. Deponia - Basically similar to Black Mirror. Disco Elysium - The newest of them all and I think comparable to Thaumaturge, except there is no combat. If you don't know Telltale Studio, you can also check out their games. Hope you will find a new genre and will love it. If you like board games, you will like these as well.

@@Galiwarix , already got Disco Elysium on my Steam backlog ( happy sales), and some others similar I think Mortismal presented a while ago. Lots or older RPG's too, thanks for the recommendations, noted ^.^

@@ChristmasLore Point & click adventure games were a huge part of PC gaming in the early 90's and were also pretty consistent on NDS/3DS. Some old school classics include The Curse of Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Knights of Baphomet, Loom... And Ace Attorney, Hotel Dusk and Pr. Layton on the handheld part... And the kind of revival with Telltale Games (TWD and Fables)... But there is plenty more for all tastes since you can put any game in which you solve logic puzzles to progress the narrative in the basket. Like Disco Elysium, add dice rolls and stats and you've got a narrative role-playing game. For that old school vibe in the more recent years I've grown fond of the Blackwell series by Wadjet Eye; Kathy Rain was also pretty cool and short and got a remaster recently; there's also Deponia, Edna & Harvey, Machinarium, Ben There Dan That, Kentucky Route Zero... The list goes on ;) Well I hope I've been helpful and you'll find your own pearls in this vast ocean of games :D
@ChristmasLore

@@Biouke , almost bought the Deponia whole collection last time it was on sales already, so maybe next time! Thanks for all the recommendations, and the explanation too. I think I also noted down somewhere/saved videos about a game named "Journey to the west" or something...mhm ..a woman able to travel between realities..rather old. Another one about...2 brothers..? I know it's vague but in the videos I watched, people seemed quite enthusiastic about these. All Telltale backlog of TWD and their next Expanse series is already in my library, waiting patiently for a rainy day or another 🌿

I really liked how pre-war Warsaw was presented and reconstructed. As a Pole (who lived his adult life in this city) immersive part of the game is great. I wish that voice acting was also available in polish (which would greatly increase immersion), but I understand that due to budget it was not possible. However translation is great - especially when it comes to specific slang used by Warsaw criminals in that time.

I'm still in Act 1 and really enjoying it. I play games for the story so this is absolutely my jam. Learning about Slavic folklore and mythology is an added bonus. As you say the mechanics of the "cases" are a bit dull after a while, all you need to do is pick up all the clues and the conclusion happens automatically. I would have preferred a more sophisticated mechanic like in the recent(ish) Sherlock Holmes games where you have to combine clues by yourself AND it's possible to come to a wrong conclusion or one that can negatively affect the story. I like there's a lot less time consuming running around than in Banishers which was the thing that really annoyed me in that game. The other positive vs. Banishers is that it rewards you for doing the smallest side quests and even picking up every little collectible. Oh, one other little niggle: When you walk up to an NPC (or other interaction point) and do a (quick) save, the button prompt disappears and you have to walk back a bit and approach again.

This one blew me away, even if I don't really play turn-based combat rpgs, atmosphere of the game did caught my attention (reminds me little bit of Vampyr), story is good, but maybe in the middle (act 2) it could've been better, but generally speaking a 8/10 game for me

After Banishers, I wish games where you play an investigator had this part more involved than "go to place, find all interactive elements, the game handles the rest for you". I don't need a new Obra Dinn, but a bit more involvement from the player would be nice.

I love how everyone finds the combat experience different. I did hear a couple of people say it was Pokemon-like, but I had felt like it was Persona/SMT meets Darkest Dungeon. To me that's a sign of a good design if people can perceive it differently while enjoying it the same. While the combat was essentially a minor part of the game, I love that they included it nonetheless as a convenient way to cut in between the heavy narrative gameplay.

I actually liked the ending I played the best, which was one of the coterie endings. The only thing I did not like about my ending was that Wiktor affected Ligia, he took her Flaw and this changed her. But other than this, it was a good ending. As for the other endings, I was actually not the biggest fan of them. Saw them on RU-vid.

I own it on GOG and experienced stuttering in the cutscenes and a couple of crashes when I first played the game. A major patch has dropped since then which seems to have fixed the issues for the most part (sill occasionally get a little stuttering on cutscenes). The first few hours of the game you have very little freedom in where you can go and what you can do. I found this very frustrating and worried that the whole game would follow the same path. Thankfully, the game opens up after you have sat through the reading of your fathers will and you can travel a lot more freely, finding side quests and generally doing things in the order that you like. This makes the game a lot more enjoyable as I like the lore and the setting very much. A couple of negatives about the game for me are the voice acting and NPCs in the world. The voice acting, with the exceptions of your character and Rasputin, is amongst the worst I have heard in recent years. Dull, monotone, poor attempts at generic Eastern European accents by obviously American and British actors delivered with little to no enthusiasm. The NPCs are stationary and unless one is connected to a quest somehow, all they do is utter the same line every time you walk near them. This, in spite of the plentiful number of NPCs inhabiting the world, makes the game feel a little empty and lifeless. These gripes aside, I am enjoying the game a lot and looking forward to making further progress.

I’ve completed the game, and the biggest problem for me was how disjointed the dialogue becomes from one interaction to another. You’d talk to a character at an earlier point and get the sense your relationship was one in state, then you’d talk to them later and get whiplash from the completely different shift in tone (sometimes even sentence to sentence). Left me feeling that I couldn’t connect to the characters fully because I was being reminded that I’m walking an NPC tightrope where I have no idea how singular (and often ambiguous) dialogue choices might completely change my relationship with certain characters. By the end, I didn’t really care about any of the characters. And I didn’t even really care that much about Wiktor.

@Mortismal Gaming i was pretty interested in the game, but quite hesitant to buy becouse of the reviews. they says its mostly a Walking/Reading Simulator. One review says this. "Every single quest, every single interaction, is just a tedious repeat of your first hour or two. You basically spend hours running through every city and every corridor while snapping your stupid fingers to make bland meaningless clues appear so that you can solve/get quests. As you advance, you'll need to revisit ALL OF THE CITY LOCATIONS and do THE SAME WALKING AROUND SNAPPING in places you've already endlessly snapped in, because new clues and quests appear and you'll miss them otherwise." is it as bad as it sounds or not?

Not really like either. It's much less involved than Disco, a lot fewer choices, clues are much easier to find. Combat is more "card based" with the difference that cards aren't used up. Many enemies can only be defeated after certain Salutor actions have been performed (or at least it takes a lot longer if you don't have the correct attack). No relation to the Witcher at all except the link to Slavic mythology.

Thanks for the video. I'm probably mistaken, but it seems like you stumbled upon a kernel of truth in this one. Combat being turn-based adds weight to the gameplay. It punctuates your choices. I can't tell if I missed the information bubbles, but I feel like there are things not being explained at times. The health bar shows how much damage you will receive at the end of the full round, the quests are not time locked, but story progression locked, etc. Also, I got really frustrated by the constant fighting. I swear I worked my way through a salutor boss fight, only to walk five steps and a group of drunks spawn in on me, forcing a cutscene and I get the "I like your boots, give them to me..." comment before being forced to leave traumatized drunks behind. It feels like I'm playing a pokemon game...
