I always thought that Dead Space took place in the far future of The Thing the creature designs are similar and they are both terrifying in both ways, if there was an Easter egg of MacReady's tape from the movie would be cool
Loved the video! As I was accompanying my girlfriend through the Dead Space series, games I've played countless times, I've fallen in love once again with its themes, and this video captures a lot of its essence. Keep up the good work! Well written, edited and narrated. You've earned a new subscriber. Eager to watch more!
@@deepdives7143 In 1:30 and 4:55, you discuss the plight of man's insignificance in the universe. Since you've been giving titles to other phenomena and tropes, I thought you might like to know that you're describing nihilism. Sorry for not being specific.
Clean editing. Relevant visuals to the narration. Discussing themes and educating the viewer without being needlessly convoluted. That's what I always like to see.
My Father and I were just having a conversation how similar Dead Space (my fav horror game) to The thing (game by the movie and also hiss favourite game) Very interesting how YT recommendations showed me this just a week later
Really enjoy your take. The Lovecraftian influences are very explicit in handsight, but I feel we lost some of that discussion while concentrating in the Scientology aspect of it. In the process you mention some of my grievances with the lore, specially the ones introduced in DS3, like the Convergence and "only if you are not smart you get Necromorph-ed", pointing out those Lovecraft's roots
Very good video from my two favorite stories dead space and the thing, they have alot in common and still one of my most favorite concepts of cosmic horror very good video toy deserves more subs.
Amazingly done video. I've always been interested in Psychology and Lovecraftian Horror, and I've always wanted to play Dead Space and watch The Thing... Absolutely deep and horrifying concepts. Thank you for reading this. I'm so glad the al gore ry thim suggested this. You've gained a new subscriber. Keep up the great work, and stay safe. o7 (edit: changed "horrific" to "horrifying". Also I hope your channel continues to grow in the future! :D)
Wow!!.. as a fan of the Dead Space Franchise I really wanted to go in-depth of its meaning as i already know its lore and universe but watching this now in 2021 you SIR gave me a new perspective on how myself interpret this masterpiece. and in a good way I really think the point of dead space and its cosmic horror themes really do suggest that we ourselves as humans are our own worst enemy and cant accept the fact we are only drilling deeper and deeper into our own impending doom, the cosmic horror themes like the leviathan and its cult like aesthetics is a nice allegory to its Call of Cthulhu traits especially if you know Unitology (in the games universe) who worship something that we really do not fully understand in its true nature yet they are succumbed to its deeds.. and the Necromorphs are the Definition of "We are all monsters inside" really do see Dead Space more than just a Dismemberment Simulator. Thank you Deep Dive! have a Like and Sub :)
The marker in itself truely is the embodiment of the fear of the unknown up until ds3. It was the mystery thinking about not knowing where this weird rock with symbols (the black marker) that turned people into monsters even came from in the start of the series, which made that fear of the unknown much more scary.
Well, it does bring up the chicken and egg problem. What came first, the moon or the marker? Considering DS4 before canned was meant to delve into the next step of the cycle after the moons, I'd say it still keeps the fear of the unknown going and the markers still mysterious entities who's true origin and purpose is still not completely known.
