I just finished reading the watchmen and I personally loved most of the characters, including Rorschach. Not to say that I find their actions where just, but I love their back stories and how they think. I think I was drawn to Rorschach the most because he reminded me of my younger self, who thought somewhat similarly. And at the end when Jon killed him, I admired how he went and that he never detached from his own moral values (but I totally get why Jon, Dan and Laurie didn't try to do anything) Don't get me twisted though, I don't think Rorschach is right in what he thinks and his methods of doing things, but I can really empathize with him. Can't wait to read Doomsday

Did he though he kills rapists except doesn’t care that the comedian is a rapist murderer because he’s a “patriot“. He’s the biggest hypocrite in the series because he pretends not to be which drives me crazy.

I dont understand why everyone believes Ozymandias as a villain when Doctor Manhattan who is A LITERAL GOD!! IS STANDING RIGHT FUCKING THERE. Doing....what amounts to be...FUCKING NOTHING.

I suppose a thing about Rorschach vs Ozymandias is that Ozymandias, hell even Doctor Manhattan, only worries about the totality of humanity. And so, every little suffering, pain, good or evil is lost in the pursuit of their goal. Rorschach focuses on one person at a time, one evil, one crime at a time to punish. Rorschachs singular goal in the story is really to find and punish the murderer of the comedian, which sets the whole story in motion.

Amazing video! I really enjoyed all the additional insight and perspectives. The problem might already be fixed since this is a 2 year old video, but it was a bit hard to hear/understand you at times. Vocals sounded lower than the music. Great vid otherwise, ty!

@@havz0r Try a newer video and let me know if its better. I did one on Exorcist and Candyman recently with these issues in mind. I've done work on the mixing to and such to try and make the narration pop better and actually be heard. I understand the issue of hearing my low voice over the sometimes too high music. Sound mixing has been the bane of this channel.

Yeah, a lot of reasons for that. The primary one being I had a cheap mike that would pop if I spoke too loudly into it. So it basically required my lower register vocal fry narration. New mic but I still need a pop cover. Thank you so much for the support.

Rorschach isn't really guided by truth, he keeps yelling that he never compromise and that the world is black and white, but he compromised and made many grey moral choices through the story. He torture random civilians, call the rape of Silk Spectre a moral lapse of a hero, didn't denounce Moloch for the ilegal drugs etc. You and probably most of watchmen fanbase forget that this is a desconstruction comic and maybe for lack of attention(there's a moment during the psychiatrist conversation that he said he send 14 people unnecessary to the hospital, he probably torture all of them just like the guy in the bar from chapter 1, I have never seen someone acknowledge that when talking about rorschach) end up romanticizing the characters.
@deepdives7143
@deepdives7143 3 года назад
I discuss how his truth is his alone and shaped through a life of abuse and trauma, and that it is morally skewed. His views on society are inherently fascist and Moore wrote him that way. Moore hated his character and hated how people latched onto him. I also discuss how he violates the categorical imperatives of kantian ethics through torture; his actions were never forgotten. The point I made was that he believes he's Kantian: He believes in black and white, and good and evil, thinks he's on the right side--despite the fact that a lot of what he does is evil. I also never forgot is was a deconstruction. I appreciate the feed back though, and I hope you don't take my response as combative. Most of the characters in the watchmen are terrible, but I still like them, because despite being bastards, they're written with flair and pathos, so I wanted to talk about them--not romanticize.
@sobitasadullah4517

He doesn't acknowledge the torture of lowlifes to be a breach of his morals. It's a morally acceptable act to him.

and there-in lies the beauty of this work of art, as it imitates life. in real life too, you will find how often deontologists appeal to consequences. if it's intentionally depicted as such, Alan Moore is a genius. turns out no one is really an absolutist. you can always find something that will make them barge. and perhaps that's for a good reason. how does one define what's moral without a goal in mind? without an outcome to aim towards?

@@deepdives7143 I don't think Rorschach is that far right but he is likely very Nationalistic or Authouritarian or worse Totalitarian as Faschism implies Rorschach believes a group in the US is inherently superior than the rest (Faschism is Ultranationalism taken to its extreme) which isn't exactly what Rorschach's beliefs are even if he is still Far Right.
