SYNOPSIS:
Horror-meister John Carpenter teams Kurt Russell’s outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing. In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Even the most modern CGI of these days cannot compete with those masterful practical effects of 40 years ago. The monster is right there. You can really touch it.

Fun fact: During the making of Shin Godzilla (2016), the workers were having trouble making the big boy of the film (Godzilla) look realistic, they attempted to make it look fleshy, to no avail, so they gave up and made it look like a prop Godzilla suit from the old movies... However, it was apparently praised for being realistic. By making CGI look like a prop, it somehow looks much more realistic than a proper attempt.

The reason I love this movie is that the monster isn't overpowering in any way and is actually more of an underdog. It dies instantly when exposed to flames and there are no miraculous healings. The paranoia about who the real monster is makes the movie a masterpiece.

@@S1ayer585. I’m not the type who cries if they’re making a remake, sequel, prequel or whatever to any movie. If they wanna make a sequel to The Thing, then bring it on. I’m gonna watch. If its bad, then its bad! I’m judging AFTER I have watched the film. Hell, IMO they can make a sequel or remake of The Godfather if they want. I would watch that too!

The split-face thing survived being burned. It has to be completely incinerated for there to be certainty that it's dead. There is a lot of uncertainty at the end of the film.

I think it's clear that Mc ready realized that the other dude at the end of the movie was THE THING. It's not clear if really alcohol or kerosine was in the bottle. And another Fakt is, that you only see Mc reedys breath and not from the other one. And after drinking from the bottle... The music turns on.... So that would be a good start for another movie. They're both frozen to death and then another scout team found their corpse and bringing them to their station for some medical tests... So the ice will melt... And what's happens next is clear. Cell activity! They're not dead yet! The Thing will rise again, absorbing lifeforms and if it get's out of this place .. The complete humanity is lost...

My guinea pigs try chewing through their cage like that when I'm late feeding them The Thing-ing scenes are more powerful because there is either zero or very minimal soundtrack playing. The blood screeching and leaping out of the petri dish in Mac's (fake) hand kills me every time.

I saw this movie at the theater when I was in high school. The dogs that were attacked by THING were really scared and I cried because I felt sorry for them. Also, in 2011, I realized that the last scene of the previous film (helicopter chasing a dog) was connected to the beginning of this film, and I was very moved.

The Thing | Every Alien Transformation In The Thing 4K HDR 2215pm 31.10.23 the guys tied to the chair and subsequent expletive allus made me and others laugh. i think the large tentacle was harrryhausen... but i am under the impression the animation created lasted longer than the brief tentacle appearance in this scene. maybe they should release a director's cut or some such or a film replete with entire harryhausen animation included...? i might just forgo what i am doing ow and slap this on the dvd player. most excellent thrills...

The Thing | Every Alien Transformation In The Thing 4K HDR 2203PM 31.10.23 WOW. still an amazing fookin film. i dont think 4k hdr will make the slightest difference to it, though... unless it's gotten the deleted alleged Harryhausen animated skit added.... i did see, somewhere, he had created something for this film - whether for the film per se or as a pre production notion, i do not know. really good film and the remake is also worth the watch... i can't emphasise how good this film is. though, of course, it's all subjective and..... you might find passing water more engaging..

P.S it's on film four tonight. really worth watching. an amazing film. there's kong, godzilla (though that's somewhat laboured, jason and argonauts, star wars, clash of titans, evil dead, alien... sci gi phantasy films which really left a lasting impression. there's plenty of pretentiously good "serious" films out there...but they aren't the topic up for discussion.

I still don't understand the objective of THE THING, like it is a very intelligent being, but it acts in a wild animalistic way (of course it depends on the form it acquired) and hasn't shown anything other than eating living beings!?

Ultimately, it's just a creature that wants to survive. That is it's prime objective. It doesn't put up much of a fight when it reveals it itself mainly cuz it's first concern is to get away to safety. Only if it has the opportunity to win it's matchup will it attack (like Palmer thing did with Windows) otherwise it will resort to running away when it knows it has little to no chance of winning. My theory is that it is some kind of virus alien, who's planet resources may have been drained completely by another alien race, and then it took over that said alien from said race as it was flying off to it's own planet, which resulted in it crash Landing on Earth, bringing The Thing virus to Earth
