Even the most modern CGI of these days cannot compete with those masterful practical effects of 40 years ago. The monster is right there. You can really touch it.
Fun fact: During the making of Shin Godzilla (2016), the workers were having trouble making the big boy of the film (Godzilla) look realistic, they attempted to make it look fleshy, to no avail, so they gave up and made it look like a prop Godzilla suit from the old movies... However, it was apparently praised for being realistic. By making CGI look like a prop, it somehow looks much more realistic than a proper attempt.
@@LMNTRONI'd say that's the biggest problem with CGI. Yeah, it's impressive, but it's just too clean. Practical effects are disgusting, messy, and just so (for lack of a better word) physical
As a child that dog scene sure had me tense! I watched it alone at my grandparents house, and afterwards, I made sure both our dogs were close to me and safe lol.
Of course. That’s what’s heartbreaking about this scene. The dogs knew they were confronted by a super predator. But the dogs were brave as all hell, before the end of the world.
That was the dog food bag left looked like a brain left on the road on the school run today as I was supposed to die again today in the game 3 times The nuclear missile was launched this morning by Saudi jin this morning I didn't realise it would be used as a counter later in the day for me to be murderer of Allah so it would be an counter for me to die Allah knows who his enemies are as for me if you need me I'm puffy eye seal 2 Gog Magog locked in garlic cage and I can't eat as I'm fasting and Muslim
Dude, as someone who has beautiful, smart and docile guardian dogs, and can’t stand the thought of anything bad happening to them, I don’t like this scene.
The reason I love this movie is that the monster isn't overpowering in any way and is actually more of an underdog. It dies instantly when exposed to flames and there are no miraculous healings. The paranoia about who the real monster is makes the movie a masterpiece.
Yeah, I really hope the movie comes back with a sequel or release another game. One of the best classic horror movie genres that doesn’t have troubled teens, annoying kids and lame sex scenes
The split-face thing survived being burned. It has to be completely incinerated for there to be certainty that it's dead. There is a lot of uncertainty at the end of the film.
I think it's clear that Mc ready realized that the other dude at the end of the movie was THE THING. It's not clear if really alcohol or kerosine was in the bottle. And another Fakt is, that you only see Mc reedys breath and not from the other one. And after drinking from the bottle... The music turns on.... So that would be a good start for another movie. They're both frozen to death and then another scout team found their corpse and bringing them to their station for some medical tests... So the ice will melt... And what's happens next is clear. Cell activity! They're not dead yet! The Thing will rise again, absorbing lifeforms and if it get's out of this place .. The complete humanity is lost...
7:09 I love the implication that Mac dropping the flamethrower here disabled it. This film is unique because none of the deaths are caused by stupidity. They are all smart scientists, as one has to be for selection to go to Antarctica. Likewise, there are no accidents or luck in the movie. Mac planned for everything except his own humanity. He was blinded by his bias that Gary was the only thing. Rather than stay alert, Mac was now distracted and didn’t actually expect anything to happen to Palmer’s blood because of how sure he was it was Gary. This causes him to drop the flamethrower in surprise, which disarms it, allowing the Thing to attack Windows.
Masterpiece in so many ways. The cast, the tension, the paranoia, the isolation, the acting, it's a perfect sci-fi horror. Those practical effects are stunning 40 years later....geezuz. 😮😮
I think no matter what horrible things ive seen in my life and the gore i've been exposed to through media, the dog scene is always going to sit at the top as the one that freaks me out the most.
*FUN FACT:* You can't see it in the final product, but there's a deleted scene that shows a little better why the "Blair-thing" is just that - behind the big mouth is half of his face.
Wanna know what makes this one of the scariest movies of all time? This is the reason. The scariest thing about The Thing, is this. The Thing is not about a creature from another world. The Thing is about the end of the world.
At least they didn't die alone like The Human Norris, Palmer, Garry, Blair, Fuchs and Bennings. Though that likely didn't make it any better for the dogs.
UNDENIABLY THE BEST HORROR SCI-FI OF ALL TIME! nothing compares! Also my favorite horror movie of all time..after watching this and the DOG SCENE i wouldnt let my dog sleep with me for a week as a kid! hahaha thats how much it scared the shite outta me!
The thing: I can assimilate and possess every sentient beings Ego: Bitch please, i'm a whole planet and i can make extension of myself to every planets. Whose laughing now?
I saw this movie at the theater when I was in high school. The dogs that were attacked by THING were really scared and I cried because I felt sorry for them. Also, in 2011, I realized that the last scene of the previous film (helicopter chasing a dog) was connected to the beginning of this film, and I was very moved.
Only The Thing (1982) directed by John Carpenter and Alien (1979) directed by Ridley Scott are on the top of my list as the greatest sci-fi horror movies ever created as well:).
Mcready is the creature. At the end when he hands child's the bottle of alcohol the alcohol is contaminated. After he takes a sip the eerie music begins. Mcready chuckles as though it is a success and falls asleep as though his task is completed. If childs was the creature he would not have been relaxed and smiling but watching him intently and on alert
Idk why, but since the 2011 prequal gave the two faced thing a name (Slpitface) i came up with name's for each thing in the movie The dog's: Bad boy Bennings: Manicure Norris: Stringy-cheese McGee Norris 2.0: Spider head Palmer: Bubble guts Blair: Malgamatick
