The Three Bridges Trail is located in Carter Caves State Resort Park in Olive Hill, KY. This roughly 4 mile long trail passes by 3 of the parks natural arch bridges. This includes the largest bridge in the park, Smoky Bridge. The other two bridges are Fern Bridge and Raven Bridge. The trail begins near the Saltpeter Cave across the street from the visitors center. Moving counter clock wise along the trail you will first walk past the entrance to the campgrounds and then work your way though the forest to Smoky Bridge. You can take a spur trail down to explore the bridge more closely. From there, you can also take another spur trail down to Smoky Valley Lake for some nice views and great photo opportunities. Then it is back up hill and onward along the trail. As the trail continues, you will pass through dense forest settings and past sandstone rock cliffs. Eventually, you will connect with the 4C's trail. A difficult 9 mile back country trail that explores more of the park. Then you will reach a spur trail for Raven Bridge. The roughly 1/4 mile trek up the steep spur trail will take you to the top of the bridge. The final Bridge along your journey is Fern Bridge. This beautiful area has great wooded views and an uphill rock scramble to continue your journey. Be on the look out for wild life, once you leave Fern Bridge. It is the area between Fern Bridge and the end of the loop trail, about a mile or so away, where we have had most of our wildlife encounters.
This is perfect trail for those who what to see some interesting features, cover some fun terrain and not spend the entire day doing so.
