@@DanGrieveGolf please can you put your videos on kids RU-vid as my lad loves watching golf videos and was devoed when yours can't be found! Thank you
What makes me laugh are the guys that have a watched a "Phil Mickelson chipping class" and believe the opposite of this (de-lofting every club, hands well in front of ball, wrist in super bowed position). Phil can do that because he's one of the 15 best golfers ever, has chipped/pitched about 500k practice balls in his life and has elite leading edge and low-point control. The margin for error for this method is just so low - even for low handicap golfers. The way DG teaches this is the ONLY way 99% of golfers should ever be thinking about chipping and pitching. Thanks for posting 🙏
@tylerholt6828 That’s not correct. Releasing the club is different to flipping the club which is your “40 yards over the green”. Flipping the club is is a result of being in poor position coming into the ball and is the body’s intuitive counter to sticking the leading edge into the ground behind the ball and duffing it. So a chipping style that is centered around delofting the face and steepening the attack angle is actually the reason why thin shots happen - that is of course unless you have practiced it so often and have elite control over the face and low point of let’s say, a top 20 player ever. There is a reason almost no pros on tour chip the way Phil does - they simply don’t, but you do you.
@tylerholt6828 Good for you - you have poor technique and are working around it. Furthermore, why don't you send Dan Grieve a message explaining how he as a teaching professional (big difference between that and a tour professional) doesn't know what he's talking about. Good luck with that.
Yeah everyone takes a professional idiosyncrasy and believes that a layman can replicate it. It just doesn't work that way but people always think that they are not normal
Been a huge fan ever since I watched you give Rick Shiels a lesson. The book is a great tool and these videos full of helpful info as well. Thanks Dan!
Short game / putting is the most important factor in scoring. You'll also find that a good short game take pressure off the long game and will let you play more relaxed
I've bought your book and it's perfectly explained. It adds a lot to be able to see you execute it. Thank you very much for sharing your technique; my short game has improved greatly.
Dan, your book is excellent, it really adds to all your videos (that I've watch mulitple times) Over the past couple of months I have practiced alot on my short game and distance control. I went out for a round today, and shot my best round in a very long time, my short game was on point. Thank you for all your videos and especially the book, which is highly recommended to anyone reading this ⛳️ 🏌️♀️
I hit a 56 wedge release 3 shot a few days ago at hainsworth park. The hole was at the very front of the green with about 2sqm of flat to land on before a huge roll down after. Release 3 just stopped dead with a little spin and left me 30cm par putt. I'd never have made this shot, or made par on this hole, without watching this channel. So thank you! Your book is on my christmas list
I watched this video the night before a round, went out and practiced the techniques in the morning, and then chipped in from 35 yards with release 1 on the first hole! Thanks Dan!
It all looks so easy, relaxed and simple. But making it work on a regular basis, on the golf course, and especially under pressure in a tournament, is an entirely different matter. Thanks for all these creative ideas.
I dunno. I’ve read his book and watched a fair few of the videos and I think most of what he teaches is intuitive. It’s certainly taken a lot of strokes off scores for me as someone who’s returning to the game for the first time in 5-6 years. But I’m willing to practice the techniques, work out the distances, the feel etc before going on the course. Many weekend golfers simply don’t do that, either because they can’t be bothered or they don’t have the time.
Zero to 60 in no time flat with these releases. I'm reluctant to share because they work so well lol. Your book is on my Christmas wish list. Thanks so much. You have a wonderful teaching style to back up proven success for the short game. Best wishes for your book and social media.
I watched this video 9 days ago. Since then, I have practiced the feels of both the stance and grip associated with the #1 and #2 styles around the house and yard. Played this past weekend and NAILED the short game. Seeing the lie, noticing what is NOT feasible and deciding on #1 or #2 (no #3’s this trip) and firing. Unreal. I’ll be lending this video many praise and shares to those I meet out on the Muni’s.
I was born with Spanish hands (Portuguese actually).. My short game has always been elite. I've been using Dan's system for a few months now and I am getting scary good. Release 3 is Sorcery! Cheers mate, your contribution to golf is undeniable.
The last time I went to the range, I spent most of my time at the chipping green. I have printed out my checklists of all 3 releases, and been having more fun learning the short game lately. Even though I might successfully hit only 2 or 3 good shots out of every 10, it has become addictive trying Dan's way.
Pure Gold and very generous of Dan to "Release" such a video. Highly recommend his 3 Release book and his app. I really want to go on and on about how good his instruction is but I'll let you see for yourself.
These are brilliant Dan. I've been playing for 30 years and as I've gotten older have really lost my confidence and feel with the short game. Your releases have helped a ton.
I've been watching your videos all week, and today, I got to try out light grip pressure and release 2, and wow, it feels so buttery! I've always used release 0 and 1, and I am loving release 2. Great videos!!!
Awesome! Practiced this the next day and my fear of chipping/pitching is almost gone. It was scary stepping up to these kinds of shots but I feel with some more practice I'll be able to handle them on the course. Thanks!!
Once again, just a masterclass demonstration from Dan. I've got his book, take it with me whenever I practice - getting good with release 1 and 2, but just seen how Dan properly turns through on release 3. I was scooping. Back to the practice green tomorrow. Thanx for the awesome content, Dan, can't wait for more!
Superb articulation of how to execute the short game across all your content, Dan. Your explanations and methods are, by far, the easiest to understand and that makes them easier to practice and then easier to use on the course.
Until I watched Dan’s videos and purchased his book my short game was hit and miss, the technique is so well explained I am confident my handicap will soon start falling Many thanks Dan
I 💯 agree with you all here. Dan's work is next level. Get his book, take a lesson from him if you can, and practice like mad. You will become a short game wizard. Such a game changer.
Dan, love the content. Can you mark your videos so when I bring my phone to the practice green I don't have to search for each shot, for example. Thanks mate!
Hey Dan, I've been working with your releases the past couple months, and finally after 12 months of bouncing between 80-85 (excluding blowups, heh), I finally smashed the 80 barrier with a 76 the other day thanks largely to me finally clicking and bringing your methods to the course. Not a single chunk within 100m!
Been utilizing release 1 and 2 and slowly but surely it’s improving my game. Had 5 up and downs and 8 1 putts last weekend which were a personal best for me. These release methods work, thanks Dan!
I tried release 1 and 2 the other day just from this video. Was quite successful! Need to practice distances but got a 1 putt and a beautiful shot ( release 2) which sailed over a bunker and rolled 6 ft. passed the hole. I just received my hardcover copy of the 3 Releases from Amazon! Thanks Dan!
When I first saw the video with Rick shields and Dan said release three should have the handle facing down. I was like how is this feasible. IT IS and is amazing the results! Thanks DAN
Thank you. Very interesting. I had always just thought “it was a feel thing” that players either had or not. I didn’t know there was a system. Silly me. Thx again.
Started hia techniques last summer and I hit shots I never hit before. It was incredible. Had some struggles recently (some hosel shots using R2), but I’ll keep on grinding. He’s great.
Got Dan's book for Father's Day and I have to say it is an easy read with get explanations of the releases and the mentality of choosing the right shot for the situation.
It all comes down to make the right decision which release to choice and which club to play it with. And then commitment. I love you videos so much. Practicing pay’s out.😊😊
Such a great video to have with the book. I know we’re all different but can you think of one external thought to have before every chip please to cut out the duff ones? Tempo? Where butt end points to afterwards? Contact? Thanks, Dan, you’re the man. Would be great if you two Dans (Maude) can get together.
This has been so much easier for me than hinge and hold. I applied all these to my 60 yards in shots and its been super useful. Going on a year of practicing this and its only been better results. Hinge and hold obviously works, phil shows that without a doubt, but im too clumsy to consistently pull it off. Lift my head 9/10 times because im dense. But greives for some reason keeps me so focused on release point relative to swing position that im more absorbed in the swing and less concerned with seeing my ball
I don't watch or study anything else. This system has improved my game, but is not easy. So much practice and if anything, I now make it a priority to study the lay of the ball before anything else.
You are the first person I have seen that emphasises that the lie of the ball is very important. I can’t stress this enough to some people. What you call the 3 hip releases, I have as hand releases with a lot of wrist hinge. This works great for me and is very instinctive, I don’t have to think about positions. Thanks for sharing your expertise, top class.
Just received your book from Amazon this week and I’ve been using your ‘releases’ these past couple of months thanks to your RU-vid content. It’s really improved my short game. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on RU-vid, it’s pure gold mate.👌
Brilliant. Love the longer form videos. Your book has been a game changer for me. If you haven’t bought it yet, do yourself a favour, go out and buy it immediately. Stocking stuffer 10/10
Brilliant stuff Dan. I'm a beginner golfer but through the summer I put the 3 releases into practice (mainly release 3 because it's so fun..) and it's made a massive difference to my golfing confidence.
The book has been a huge benefit to my game. I live in the southeastern US where we have a lot of Bermuda. I’m curious to any changes required since Bermuda rough is notoriously difficult.
Book is on the way- expecting it any day & can’t wait. In the meantime, are there any feel drills for release 2 & 3 like there is for release 1 ? (Ie.- grip club at ferrel & place shaft on left hip. Keep shaft on hip as you swing back & thru) Thanks !
Dan, really enjoying 3 releases: The short game system on kindle. It’s making a big difference to my appalling short game. A small point though. A bit of a typo, I assume, on kindle page 18 under the Charley Hull photos. “Chests” ???
This is the best short game advice ever. One question though - how does the bounce on the wedge impact the releases? I have a 54 deg wedge with 12 bounce and find it a bit difficult, especially for release 2 & 3.
I did a few hour’s practice. I don’t actually think I need release 2 & 3. 9 iron to 58 with release 1 will cover 99% of missed greens shots. Outstanding tip. 👍
Dan, I play golf sunny, San Diego California. I have good short game. I have started using my 54 bounce wedge more but I feel when I focus on the release technique I tend to miss hit shots as I feel locked up. I use your release technique as a pre-shot and set up only
Thank you, Dan! This video is great I just bought your book and looking forward to digging into the detail. Your social media videos have helped me so much!
