Following the year of the "Kick Six", Alabama hosted Auburn in hopes of getting revenge in the Iron Bowl. In a top 15 matchup between two explosive offensives, the scoreboard lit up quickly. Receiver Amari Cooper led the Tide offense with 13 receptions for 224 yards and three touchdowns. Cooper set an Iron Bowl record for most receiving yards. The Crimson Tide won 55-44.

@CJ, no disrespect to Sims at all. He saved Bama's life against LSU (Dude went off in that last drive). But he had an off day and Cooper picked up the slack.

@@austinhunt6455 I'm not sure that's possible though considering that Cooper didn't throw the ball to himself. Sims 3ints were really bad - BUT he still had enough poise and mental fortitude to throw some absolutely beautiful deep balls and end-zone fades to Cooper in stride. A receiver still needs a QB to throw a good pass. There was really only 1 TD pass where he was all by himself in the open field. I'd say Sims redeemed himself and Cooper popped off.

While Blake Sims isn't one of the best QB's in Alabama history, he's one of the best leaders in Alabama history and I think he's is one of the most underappreciated players in college football! He changed position several times and could've transferred numerous times but stuck with his team and it finally paid off in his last season. His critics are correct in that he could be a very big threat at QB in one game and turn around the next and be a damn near liability. However, his work ethic and leadership makes him one of the most crucial players in Alabama history. I say that based on what I've seen in my time as a Bama fan and I was born an Alabama fan (1981). lol

When I was born Bear Bryant was in his last year as head coach. The first national championship I watched Alabama win was in 1992 with Gene Stallings as head coach. I had to live through the dreadful years between Stallings and Saban. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "so...what's your point". My point is that you've made me feel really damn old!

In the years I went to Bama, this game was probably the second best atmosphere I ever attended at Bryant Denny Stadium (2013 LSU was more hype). Notably, this is the game that got Dixieland Delight banned from Bryant Denny for a few years.

Red zone mistakes by Auburn in the first half flipped the game. Roc's fumble, and settling for 4 fgs deep in the Bama red zone in the first half decided the game. Biggest Auburn IB choke in the last 50 years.

@@garrethall3486 Yeah, we really didn't have any viable options at QB, but he filled in well enough as a QB, gave us a memorable Iron Bowl, plus a helluva game vs Florida. But, yeah Saban started really going after the higher rated QBs, the game changer types after that.

OMG, we have to get back to this style of play. I miss the beastly Bama O-Lines that simply moved you out of the way. Yes, we still have great skill guys today, but championships are won in the trenches plain and simple. Just look at Michigan they went old school on OSU and beat them. It will be interesting to see how Georgia plans to stop them, Bama was good through the air but Michigan is the complete opposite but just as fierce with their O-line and ground game.
