"I"m going to be right here and they'll pass me the ball. You'll dive for it, but I'm going to control your dive so that you think you've almost got it, then I'm going to turn around while you have a front row seat and shoot the game winner. You're welcome."
I might vaguely remember seeing this, real time. Bird did a great job of sealing the, very strong Barkley, away from the narrow passing lane, with one arm, and catching the ball with the other, then spinning and shooting. Nothing for Barkley to be ashamed of, at all.
Sir Charles' poor "Milk Dud" head bounced off the floor just high enough for him to see Bird's shot swish through the net. 😢 Charles is one of the best players of all time and he nearly swatted the ball away. However, Larry Legend was also one of the greatest.
Barkley was the best player on every team he played on except the Rockets, but the best team he ever played on that even had a chance at a championship was the Phoenix Suns, so he had nothing to be ashamed of. There are more Hall of Fame players who never got a championship then did. Most times the stars just don't align no matter how great a player is.
0:41 Looks like Charles DID get a piece of that pass. Just not enough of one to do more than deflect it a bit. 0:47 In fact, he almost dribbled it twice, but couldn't get control.
Chuckster goes on record to say he is as good as the Legend and keeps him out of his all time top ten. Keep to politics, Chuck, you are really better there.
Chuck was the better PF, Bird was the better PF, they really were different players and skills. Barkley was more efficient, a better rebounder, but Bird was a better passer and had more range.
They SCRIPTED him to graze that ball with his fingertips, and Bird to spin and nail a last second jumper? You realize if that was true it would take even more talent for them all to pull off that script than to just play the game normal? 😂
