When I first started the reclaim, in March of 2020 I thought for sure I would be farming in less than a year. Little did I know just how wrong I would be. It seems everything fought me tooth and nail but I never gave up.
Finally after many struggles and setbacks, I finally said 2024 was the year for me. So I set things up in the fall for spring field work. I did plant some winter wheat, but was waiting on Corn for sure.
I have a huge issue with wildlife, mainly deer here at the farm. So I decided against doing soybeans and corn and concentrating on one crop. I went with corn mainly because of the chance to sell it locally for deer hunters. So the journey began, I realized really quick Round Up Ready corn at $300.00+ a bag was not going to be feasible due to so many unknowns and my rookie status. I decided on conventional corn, and planned to not use herbicides at all....only to quickly realize that would not be smart. So I decided to fix my sprayer and do some burn down and pre-emerge for better control, on top of cultivation.
The time came to put up or shut up and here we went! All in all I can't complain, things went as smooth as I set them up to go. That being said, though...many mistakes were made I can't change now, so they will have to haunt me all year. But it's trial by fire with me, and some things burned this year..
And lastly the wildlife has already taken a HUGE toll on the corn and it's only 3-4inches out of the ground...well what the crows didn't grab and the planter drug up. Regardless the Lord blessed me with the chance to make a lifetime dream come true, and we planted corn on land my grandfather worked so hard to keep over the years. I feel him with me most days alone on the tractor, and I think he is proud❤️ I do believe with more attention, seat time, and experience I can make things better with each passing year!
This has been my dream and what we set out for from the start of my channel. The ones of you that follow my journey and give your unbiased support are a true blessing and I am honored to have you here! Thank you all, and hopefully the season will continue to interest you and many more videos to come!!
