Ring Necked Snakes, Diadphis punctatus, even as adults are considered to be small snakes and are among the smallest species of snakes in the USA as well as world-wide. This particular snake featured in the video is a new born snake that hatched from an egg this fall. In this video i discuss, where these snakes are found, what they eat, how broad their range is, how many eggs they lay, problems with keeping as a pet, how they constrict prey, how they subdue prey with rear facing fangs and mild venom, why they are often found on pavement and much more on their natural history.

My first snake memory as a young child was of an Eastern Ring Necked snake kept in my great uncles terrarium in they're living room. Bloomingdale, NJ USA. They are my favorite snake, I've seen a number of them here in SW Florida ( the Southern variant here ).

I was so excited to see the Ring-neck snake! Fond memories from childhood, I lived in a forested area with lots of leaf litter. Ring-necks have always been my favorite and this little one is so CUTE!

Cutie! Last week I found a tiny milk snake in my garage! I tried to catch it, but it slipped underneath the door threshold and disappeared. It was a fierce little snake, coiled and striking, tail vibrating like a rattlesnake

I love snakes. While weeding along my stone walk, I found a tiny Eastern Ring Neck. Held the wee snake in hand and then let him or her go where I found them. After seeing this very young one, the one I found was an adult. Delightful snake.

True story here ... my brother has Down Syndrome and loves snakes, so I've taught him a bit of stuff. One day I asked if he remembered what a newborn rattlesnake is called and he said, "Yeah! A neosnake!" From that moment on, my rescue partner and I referred to tiny snakes like that one as "neosnakes." 😁

Thank you for all the information on that little cutie! One of my favorite pets I had was a ball python. People have such a dislike of snakes, but they are interesting creatures.

He's adorable! When I lived in south central Texas the house I was staying at had wonderfully plush carpet. And I wasn't the only one who liked it. We had, apparently living in that nice carpet, the tiniest snakes that I've ever seen. They were about the size of your little guy, but with apparently no pigment. They were light pink, just like earthworms. I don't remember who told me or where I read it but supposedly a common name for them is flower pot snakes. Because they are often found living at the bottom of flower pots. And fun fact, every "flower pot" snake ever documented has been female. It's believed that they reproduce through parthenogenesis. Cool, huh? Also, these little guys, (gals, I guess), like to eat the eggs of ants and, I think, termites. I tried keeping a few in a terrarium that I had set up for crickets. I thought they would like eating the cricket eggs. But they weren't fond of the adult crickets who were far too interested in them. They were so little that some of them were able to squirm their way right out of my terrarium somehow. I think if someone were to try to keep these guys, or your beautiful little guy, as pets they could feed them fruit flies that are specially bread to be wingless. I think they're sold online and at specialty pet stores. (The fruit flies, not the tiny snakes) And a daily misting with non-chlorinated water should keep them moist enough. Especially if their enclosure was set up with soil and leaves and sticks and stuff. And they could have a nice rock positioned beneath a heat lamp hanging over one end of the enclosure. That way they could regulate their temperature well. Geez, now I want to set up a terrarium again. Lol. Alas, I no longer live in a house with tiny carpet snakes. And no basement where I'm at now. But maybe some of your other viewers will feel inspired and will give it a try. I'd love to hear about it if they do. Thank you for the fun video of your adorable little snake. He really is cute little guy.🐍
