Marine explorer Robert Ballard, a professor of oceanography at the University of Rhode Island, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic with a lecture about his discovery of the ship's resting place.
The "unsinkable" Titanic sank in the North Atlantic on its maiden voyage on April 15, 1912. Ballard discovered the remains of the ship on September 1, 1985, following a secret U.S. Navy mission to find two U.S. submarines.
In his lecture, Ballard discusses his discovery of the ship and shares his thoughts about its preservation.

I deeply respect Prof. Robert Ballard for his great contribution to attract thousands young people from a school bench (project Jason) in researches of ocean! This step shows us our attitude to the young generation at eve of 21 century and further! I deeply respect him for his high contributions to Oceanography he made during his oceanographic career. He is a person with restless spirit! Prof. Robert Ballard is improbable explorer! I had honour to work with his team into Black sea (2001-2002).

I couldn't agree more. Ballard could have made a fortune by salvaging the ship, which would have been his sole right under laws of the sea. This wonderful man only cared about preserving the Titanic's legacy and honoring all who lost their lives. Think about it,he cared more about honoring basically a grave site than being a very, very wealthy man. Bob Ballard is a true inspiration and role mode to all future adventurers.

Ballard must have forgotten but the Andrea Doria took 11 hours to capsize/sink at sea. Great documentary. Thanks for sharing.
