There are reasons as to why these companies typically hire ex military dudes, it's because they know their shit. This dogshit company literally was like, 'let's send some people to their deaths because they don't know any better' Honestly I'm a little bit heated.

That inspiration excuse was bullshit. They were just cheap and didn’t want to pay for experience.

Exactly! All the red flags are so obvious, I can't believe the company was so arrogant that they killed 5 people with their lack of care.

By Stockton Rushs logic I don't inspire people to do chemistry. Funny how these kids keep telling me otherwise. No one is more inspiring than a master of their craft.

This could've been avoided. Oceangate killed 5 people with their arrogance and cheap tactics. R.I.P. to the crew.

Not really. The people that paid 250 grand committeed suicide...thats more like it. Do you wanna know who oceangate isn't gonna kill? Me! Because Titanic wreck is not a tourist spot. So we have no business going there if it doesn't serve a right purpose! We already found the Titanic and we did a few expeditions and have plenty of video content. So now let the people that died rest in peace. No one pointed a gun to these people, they went at their own risk and signed a document reliving the company of any responsibility. They knew the risks

When I first heard that it was made from carbon fiber, I knew at that moment that it had imploded even though it was only speculation at that point. Carbon fiber is not made for long term stress like that. The extreme pressures and then return to normal pressures will erode ANY material that is NOT a solid such as steel or titanium. Even if it were 1 foot thick, it would eventually fail because of the on and off stress. For dives up to a few hundred feet, it may last for many years, but stress will always erode the integrity of carbon fiber. Any design engineer worth their weight knows this. It's just sad that it took a tragedy to show this. I personally believe that they knew something was wrong and that they were returning to the surface. Now that could mean that they had a small leak somewhere or worst case, pressure inside the sub was increasing quickly, but once the shell collapsed/imploded, it was definitely instantaneous, so they did not suffer other than a few seconds of possible anxiety in an attempt to quickly reach the surface. I feel sorry for all of them.

The fact Stockton Rush openly admitted cutting corners and bending the rules, and it's documented via recording... OceanGate is screwed
@prestonhanson501
@prestonhanson501 Год назад
Isnt it more likley the implosion was caused by the window breaking as it was only rated to 1300 feet and the pressure vessle itself was designed to go that deep? Nobody knows if the vessle could withstand it exactly it wasnt tested, but the window was rated and it could only go 1300 feet and they were doing 4000 feet

Former OceanGate engineer Lochridge and experts had highlighted Rush's refusal to have the submersible properly inspected and certified. The director said he had been told OceanGate was unwilling to pay for such an assessment. Titan is a carbon fiber submersible that can travel as far as 4,000 meters below sea level, the OceanGate website says. At the depth of the Titanic, which sits 3,800 meters below sea level. Carbon Fiber is chosen because it is cheap. Lochridge also said that the submersible's viewpoint was only certified to work in depths of up to 1,300m and claimed he had been fired by OceanGate after he questioned the safety of the Titan. The OceanGate management have the same mindset as former Boeing management that cause Boeing 737 MAX 8 MCAS disaster. Both disregard passenger safety for profits. They believe innovation means you need to break all the rules. Including safety rules.
@RND3YT
@RND3YT Год назад
Exactly my point. I understand that risks come with innovation, but disregarding all the known rules and safety risks is hubris.

Wonder what people were saying to Glen Curtis and the Wright Bros.?
@RND3YT
@RND3YT Год назад
Not the point. Innovation in the face of new types of travel is one thing. But avoiding proven safety measures for underwater travel is another. The problem was the refusal to use drones and proper safety precautions to test the submersible, before catastrophe. I get your point though. In the face of opposition, brave people will innovate. This was just too ridiculous though.

But they all signed paperwork saying it was experimental design that could result in death
@RND3YT
@RND3YT Год назад
That's true, it's a He-Said She-said. Apparently, the reports show that OceanGate did have paperwork before passengers boarded. But that the information was misleading and incorrect up to the point of boarding. This was mentioned by other officials, In an article by TNYT
@ratflail215
@ratflail215 Год назад
Yes. Their material also says that the maximum diving depth was 4000m. This is not true as the company that made the window explicitly told them that it was graded only up to 1300m. They offered to custom make them a window that would be suitable for their need but the CEO declined as it would have been much more expensive. Signing a waiver doesn't mean anything if you have been lied to.

I agree that it has to happen. Business is Business and companies beed to go on. But as a private company, that the ENTIRE WORLD is watching, it's a bad idea to look for replacements while the search is still on. I agree with you, but it's a cold cold world.
