In the mid-1800s, one bad map ultimately sent Michigan and Ohio to war with each other. The story is more chaotic and downright funny than I thought, and involves everything from a boy governor to a scheming president to a tavern brawl. So, buckle up.
(If you've ever wondered why the Upper Peninsula is part of Michigan and not Wisconsin - or why the UP isn't its own state - that also has a weird amount to do with the city of Toledo, Ohio.)
