Big fan of this dude , being a bassist and looking on a lot of social media it’s all flash and crazy licks and techniques but to me playing the bass is about the pulse driving the song , simple and effective and this guy is the epitome of this great timing and feel occasionally will show you he has some tricks up his sleeve but plays for the song , such a dude
He said he's glad he came through the struggle & is here to talk about it. So am I. He is such a lovely man, so articulate - and brave to talk about such difficult things.
Wow! Tommy Tiernan has just shown himself to be a masterful interviewer. Some veteran broadcasters could learn a thing or two from him. Love the way he gives Adam Clayton room (and time) to find and develop his thoughts, without jumping in with follow up questions, finishing sentences for him, or otherwise getting in the way. Superb interview all round. Kudos to Tommy and Adam Clayton for this.
Class - Tiernan and Clayton. Well done, sirs! Adam is a musical hero of mine. Name a bassist who has laid the foundations for as may great songs as he has over more than 4 decades. Not possible. An all-time great.
What a great interview! Wow! Well done Tommy. I have always wondered what Adam is like under the hood so-to-speak. I’ve been a U2 fan most of my life and this has been the most revealing interview I have ever witnessed of Adam. What a genuine guy. Much respect to you Tommy and much respect to Adam.
One of my dreams is to meet this amazing and wise man. I could talk with him for hours or even days. His life is so inspirational for me. Thanks Adam Clayton
Tommy is a brilliant interviewer. He just has an amazing talent that he either learned or it's just natural but brilliant. Watch his facial expressions when he is asking a question. Just genius
Only just discovered this. Astonishing interveiw. Wonderful honesty, and Tommy just allowing space, but also just genuinely caring questioning. Excellent stuff. One of the best interviews, I think ive ever seen
Nice to see he was humble enough to feel touched when he was called a kind man.good on you Adam. A genuineness in tommy tiernans interviewing style too.
Modest, authentic and very likable character Adam is in my view. Btw it's great how Tiernan listens and lets someone speak after he has asked a question. Nowadays there is this tendency in the media to interrupt people during interviews. Or maybe it's just that the Irish are more polite.
It goes to show what hard work and talent can achieve. One day you're a bass player in a band, the next you're being interviewed by Tommy Tiernan! Seriously good interview.
A great interview indeed. Tommy Tiernan is excellent as a host and I love his style, very refreshing and such a nice easy way of making his guests feel relaxed.
@@adrianbono1 I didn't know that, it makes his interviews much more amazing. I'm a fan of Tommy's comedy shows and U2 of course and it was great to see a different side of them both.
I really enjoyed this interview. I was a huge fan of U2 and then I worked for them in the early 1990s (and hated it). But I am still a huge fan. I never got to spend any meaningful time with Adam so listening to him now makes me regret it and realize it was unlikely we would have had this opportunity back then.
Everyone of these interviews that Tiernan has done have been engrossing quality viewing. They're brilliant. WHO was the genius that came up with the idea in the first place? Was it a vehicle for Tiernan? Was he looking to do a chat show? The simplicity of the format is what makes it work so well. Somebody talks. Tommy listens. We learn.
Am I the only one wondering why Adam Clayton doesn"t have an Irish accent? I mean he has lived in Ireland since he was five. My favourite member of the band.
I think Adam does have a posh Dublin accent with some English. I'm not sure how his accent would be considered in England (a friend of mine with what I thought was an English accent is considered to have an Irish accent in England) but he was born in England and his parents were English. I'd assume his parents accent is a big part of the way he speaks. Probably like Shane McGowan in England.
I would really like to have a conversation with Adam Clayton. I like contemplative conversation, and I have a feeling all the U2 musicians are like this.
Adam has an unusual accent. It's not Irish but it's not really English either. Perhaps somewhere in the middle? According to Wiki, he was born in England, but has lived in Ireland since he was 5 years old. That's a long time to live in a country and still have a hybrid accent.
@@jerrysummers5971 I'm reading Bono's book, which sheds a bit more light on Adam's upbringing. He was raised by posh, upper-class parents and went to posh boarding schools. By the time he showed up at Mount Temple, he was speaking the Queens English.
Tommy Tiernan has to be the new gay byrne and gay byrne was the best at what shows he done..... Because they really really listen to people who ever they are interviewing and it wasn't always about the them selfs because they really want to know what thease people want through ... as in I won't say who...... God bless you gay byrne you were the best they é ever have... R. I. P
For filming concerts for official releases they normally film over 2 nights so they have extra footage to choose from. In this case they couldn't use anything from the first night cos Adam wasn't there. Stuart Morgan was Adam's Bass technician at the time, ie he looked after all of Adam's basses and Amplifiers, set them up before each show. As a bassist himself he knew the set from hearing it night after night so they did a rush rehearsal with him and did the first night. In the Book U2 by U2 they describe how difficult that night was. Adam too as he could hear the show happening in the distance without him. That concert is actually up on RU-vid now. After The Fly Bono explains why Adam isn't there. Stuart Morgan plays mostly standing beside Larrys Drums but stands out a bit more during New Years Day. There's also a moment during that song where Bono walks behind Stuart and gives him a reassuring pat on the back. I'' add the link here if you like?
@@thegoatchild3545 No problem, here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EzUJqCXyeMk.html . Its a rough bootleg as the footage from this gig was filmed but never released for obvious reasons.
@@EoCEoCEoC No it's not. I live in South Dublin and Adam Clatyon grew up in Malahide which is on the north side of Dublin anyway. His parents are English though which is why he retains traces of an English accent and sounds quite posh I guess.
Why does Pierce Brosnan have an Irish twanged English/American accent, despite not having lived here since he was 10? Accents are picked up from many sources, but mostly from immediate family (aka Adam's family). I've met Church of Ireland farmers from the back arse of nowhere in rural Ireland with stronger 'English' accents than Mr Clayton, despite them having never lived in the UK, it's kinda like Newfies in Canada having an Irish accent.
@@shane6115 unfortunately I’m of the belief that Ireland is also being unhinged by the drugs problem, nearly every county has been plagued by drugs it’s all very frightening and Ireland is also being infiltrated with a massive influx of foreigners which i also believe is suspicious. U2..dammed if they do, dammed if they don't...., can't win. I thank them for being part of my lifes sound track ...would love to have a drink with them for a night
U2 never dodged any Tax read into the actual facts and stop reading tabloid shite they have always paid tax in ireland and theyve gave so much back to ireland and maybe you didnt watch the whole interview try watching again they dontated millions into schools for kids and just at the start of the pandemic in 2020 gave another 10 million to get PPE for the hospitals in ireland and getting bak to the dodgy tax thing if its the moving part of theyre earnings to Holland that was a management decision ok so check youre facts before you jump on the anti U2 bandwagon its pathetic
@@reactionfan1448 actually he owns shell companies in tax havens. Through and through tax avoider. 10m is a drop in the ocean to them!!!! Greatly appreciated but through and through tax avoider.
"The drummer sux..the singer sux, the guitarist sux...the bass player sux..." etc., etc., blah, blah, blah. Ha! (watch the Premier Guitar interview with Dallas Schoo, or listen to Technical Masters Rick Beato, Tim Pierce, and Rhet Shull go On about how technically amazing this band Actually is). NO band EVER has spent more Thousands and Thousands of hours working their asses off as a Team. More frequently The Best. This band Still keeps me going So many times. I'm not behind every single item from their Massive trackload-but I'll put multiple songs from all eras up against most anything else. They needed to be popular so they steadfastly sought palatable radio play. They didn't make money for their first decade. Some of their biggest hits are my least favourite of their songs.
