BHG your vid wasn't bad either! I was very impressed! I only came here to find where I could buy it in Australia. As the link at your site didn't work. PS: the link(s) _here_ didn't work either, oh dear, I hope Russia didn't bomb them out of existence!
The modeler war is really heating up. I'm no good at prognostication and I have no clue as to survivors, but I really like what I heard from this thing. Hope it makes it.
Sounds good, if the software continues to be updated they have a winner, and good luck to them. Nice review with pros and cons, plus some tasty Schenker and KingsX riffs too 👏👏👏
Some good tones there, and the Neural Amp modeling is a big plus. I hope they listen to your review, comments, and suggestions. They are fortunate to have someone with such extensive Modeling experience take a deep dive into their product. Thanks
The appeal of the Tonex pedal to me is chucking it on a pedalboard and having simple hands-on controls without having to screw about on a computer screen or in fiddly onboard menus. The Tonex could do a lot better here, but it still fits that niche and is better compared to pedals like the Iridium than the Amperium for what I want from it.
I do like the idea of using a computer to create captures and then loading them onto a rig. I think the ToneX software that guides you through captures is really well thought out.
The most important question: does it really sound and feel as good as tonex pedal? Tonex is the first time I enjoy digital guitar sound. If it is eve just a bit worse - it's a no-go for me
Seems pretty comprehensive. Only downside I see is the lack of expression pedal or connection for one. I suppose you could use MIDI if you had the right interface. Still a cool unit though.
My, we've come such a long way from the old POD bean, haven't we? So many options out there to please most people, except the "tubes or nothing!" purists. Everything has a place, and this sounds really great.
There are a couple of things that I would have like to seen tested: - Is there a black delay or not when changing patches ? (Important for live where we need smooth and quick transitions). - Is the loop really stereo ? Does it need then stereo to 2 mono jacks ?
Hey Leon! I have one of these things coming here soon and I really appreciate your demos. It saves me hours of poking it with a stick like a caveman trying to figure out how to use these things 😂 thank you 🙏
I do not know if is me, the Amperium sounds great but more I listened to the sounds here "seems" that is a strong Sonic Print in the highmids, like the unit has this very characteristic sound in all the presets, this saturated high-mids, slightly blowout/fuzzy sound.
Thank you for your review. I went to St.Rock checkout and it has a cupon option. I know this is a new product. Do you know if there is a cupon for this pedal? 🤘
I own the st.Rock React IR which is a fantastic bit of kit. Same criticisms ref the interface. Not that intuitive but once you get it dialled in, it is amazing!
2:36 Judging by their Profile Hub, the majority is not just like Tonex, but exactly that, profiled or ported Tonex captures... Guess it will be a similar situation like with the Mooer MNRS Captures, where most content is just profiles of profiles. However, the profiles in the Amperium NMM VST sound pretty decent.
ToneX killer? Nah. But it is a good sounding piece of gear. IMHO, the strength of the ToneX is that it focuses on the amp tones and I can add it to my existing pedals.
*OH MY PHUCKING GODS\!!!!!!!!!! THAT WHITE SNAKE RIFF ON THAT MODEL.... THAT SOUND LIKE A REAL DEAL AMP SET UP!!!!! WTF??????!!! the joint before that sound like you had an EVENTIDE H90 plugged in!!*
This sounds really good in your hands, Leon. I like the small but powerful size and the easy way to mod the amps. Using fractal units you always have to choose another amp. Would be good to know if the company is working on steady updates. All the best to the people in Ukraine which devoloped this in these hard times.
@LeonTodd Amazing demo! Thinking about the price, Are amperium and neural network amps sonically better than HX stomp? Clarity, definition, feel? Which one do you choose? Great work!
Absolutely love the component based modelling, the tweekability of the models is awesome, sounds fantastic. Bummer hardware programmability, for essential to be able to operate easily in the unit in case you need to change something on the fly at a gig. Not a fan of this new app based world but maybe I’m just an old git 😂
I picked one up based on this video. The tones are great and for the price point it punches sound wise above its weight. The cons you listed are valid but not deadly based on price point. Also your JTM45 amp capture is pure gold on my presets! Cheers!
I love your videos its wonderful i watch your videos every day leon i love 80s music in particulary the midnight and Jesse frye 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🌞🌞🌟🌟🌟⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸I hope one day my dreams it comes true im a guitarist and i hope every day with my guitar this dreams it comes true you are an amazing artist really i hope one day leon play guitar with you 🌞🌞🌞🌟🌟⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Leon. You’re killing me brother. period every time I watch you review a piece of gear. I want to go out and purchase it. This was an excellent review on an exceptional piece of gear. Also, these are made in Ukraine isn’t that right. I can’t believe they’re able to make these things under the conditions that country is going through. quite good of you to highlight these guys especially under the situation. Keep them coming buddy I appreciate you. I wish you’d make it stateside so I could go see Ragdoll here. Cheers.
I don't agree with you being so critical, this is literally a high quality product at a price 4 times less than Quad Cortex. These are the best models I have heard from any modeler.
*Todd you know what!. You are so use to the AXE FX i can see how this unit throws you off... However, I never owed any of these other units and after taking a closer look at this unit [ the GUI is a bit FLAT AND MILK MAYONNAISE ] however I could navigate it very well.*
Hey Leon! Are you planning on doing another or many other videos about this unit Amperium, cause I am a bit holding on it until I hear more of the amplifiers available in this unit to make a decision to buy it or not. Thx very much for all your knowledge ! Cheers man ! 🤟
Amazing Review and awesome Playing, Amperium sounds great!! can you upload and download sounds and captures like with Tonex? that is a must feature to be in the game
That thing is cool.. I do love that Dimension Chorus and the delay, and it is cool that it provides a ducking delay. Just little things like that make life easier to go direct.... Very cool.. I could for sure just use that live. Setup a clean, a dirty, and boost with delay and reverb and I could do a whole gig easily! I"m a simpleton though.. 😛 That JVM is chunky on the low end.. Very cool.. I loved that Whitesnake song.. I used to play that! Very cool brother! The Fender tones were good too! Man, I still am drooling over that DGT.. It sounds awesome brother and looks great too! Man, it's hard to get a bad product anymore. I mean, almost any guitarists wanting to go direct can spend just a little and get a decent tone and playability ! Very cool and thanks for the demo sir.. I really liked this one and the ability to change things is really really really good! Those Ukranians are clever dudes! Be safe brother and be well sir and thanks again as always for all the great content.. I look forward to it everyday.. Everyday with my coffee! I must be getting up when you're uploading your video's in the afternoon for you! Tim
Like you said, very cool unit just needs some updates and a bigger screen. And it can be incredible technology always moving forward. I'd like to see some of the dual d tuner. Pitch shifting.
Genie is out of the bottle. Everyone will have to offer all this in order to compete. Best time to be a guitarist. I have a TONEX on my "before Christmas" list..Now maybe it's this. How long did it take to make a capture? Thank You for the video and Best Regards and Best Wishes!
@@LeonTodd Tried in Reaper. After figuring out it was asking for the capture NMM file, I DL'd some. You get Input, Gain and Output to fiddle with. No EFX. That's what threw me initially. Very nice sounds. Thanks for turning us on to this new tech! I wish Ukraine well. 🇺🇦🇵🇱💛💙 Slava Ukraini and Heroyam Slava! 🇺🇦🇵🇱💛💙 Thanks for heads up..something to watch! Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Hi Leon, saw Michael Nielsen's vid on this and was looking forward to yours. Love the sounds but I'm an amp/cab guy, so how would you link this up with amp/power amp and cabs?
Every patch you've played seems to have some kind of low level digital distortion or clipping going on. Even the cleans have a tiny bit of "buzz" or something in them. Is that the Amperium or is it something in the signal chain (maybe YT)? Very cool that this unit has effects. That's what I've missed in the Tonex and have gone back to my FM9 and Kemper for live work.
Looks like an early alpha of a fractal product haha .Yeah I feel like in my former years I'd love the price point and explore everything there is to offer but after using so much gear I just appreciate good ui/ux and overall design it really helps the overall experience. Imagine something going wrong at a gig and you need to quickly change something on a unit like this, rip. Hats off to them though it has huge potential hopefully they can roll out some of those updates, not being able to quickly change output volume sounds disastrous.
@@stRockOfficial wow, now I'm getting interested in this unit. How do the footswitches work? Is there any tap/hold/double tap option or just straight forward tap function. Can you set the volume separately for the xlr and phones? Any plans on firmware updates?
@@Lack0 There few modes. Long press for getting A: Tuner, B- favorite scenes (4 favorite scene from any bank), C mode for switching by banks\scenes via footswitch, D: tempo. When pres B+C together you can enter to SONG PLAYLIST mode - you can make playlist for songs from any bank\scene (serial toggle for 16 items for each song). Also exist MIDI IN - simple program change command but you use remap function to switch any bank with any scene by this command.
This is pretty solid. Fractal have the advantages of having a massive effects library as well as far more flexible footswitching and organisation via scenes/channels.
Hey Leon, so MUCH fun to hear you playing! Absolutely masterclass! I´ve ordered the Amperium Live from the brave St.Rock guys in Ukraine and I can´t wait to get it in my hands! Even the crunch-sounds do sound really nice! Maybe it could be a problem that everything in your hands sounds fantastic! 😉 Just kidding... Great video, as usual! Greetings from germany
I really appreciate your reply! I‘m still waiting patiently for my Amperium Live. Maybe I'll do a video as well, because I think it doesn't get the love it deserves! 😅
Hey Leon, finally I´ve got mine and I´m very impressed! But how do I have to use Neural Amp Modeler Profiles? Which NAM is that and must I load the profiles into my Amperium. Maybe content for a new video? 😉 Any help would be appreciated...
the thing with all this profiling/capturing stuff is that i havent seen many artists use it. after kemper which nowadays very few players still have, they mostly go to component based modeling like helix's and fractals. i myself never felt nice with having only a "snapshot" of an amp rather than a working model of it
Capturing really makes sense to me if you've got something you really like the sound of and just want an easy way to take that on the road. it's so easy to get great sounds using component based modeling nowadays though.
@@LeonToddexactly. thats why i think ppl used the kemper a lot even though it did little else well and it was a very clunky platform. nowadays if you have a robust and well thought of component based modeling system like FAS you can get any tone on the planet. plus when you want to pull the gain a bit down it works like an actual amps knob
17:01 ok ok we need a shoot out (please please!) of just amp tones from this & ToneX head to head. Hope you’re well btw, awesome video, great unit - tones sound great but I like being able to edit on the unit so for me that’s going against it #nocomputer
@@ksharpe10 yea blows my tiny mind that the designers of these units overlook we need to be able to “manually” do things as often gigs, rehearsals etc internet or phones or computer/laptop can go down, be clumsy or not even work in the first place. Hope you’re well btw, love Johns channel too - we are blessed to have these guys around to help us!!
Training can be performed on powerfull computers/servers with GPUs and the resulting neural network can be loaded into the device. But, instead of ToneX, training is performed on Google Colab server, like popular NAM or less popular GuitarML Proteus. Because not everyone have powerful GPU or newer MACs (M1 etc).
@@notalkguitarampplug-insrev784 No, it can`t. NAM, even nano-sized network is too heavy. But nano also needs training from scratch. But NAM also has LSTM-based model, with same size it can be converted directly to NNM. Still not usual NAM.
It is indeed impressive but Modelers are like the way home PC's were year's back where they kept being redundant very, very quickly. With this unit what also concerns me it comes from a country at war where disruptions in any business are the norm. The company could vanish by zero fault of their own. I get by with a Plexi ,an attenuator and some analog pedals. I keep waiting for the obvious. A standardization to do what MIDI did. A box where we buy whatever sounds we want in software from a multitude of companies and download what we need live to that box on the floor which could be very inexpensive. .
2.2 ms from the input to the main output. With loop 2.6 ms (latency from the input to the send, 1.3 ms, plus the same latency from the return to the main output).
@@LeonToddquite expensive for the "mini old style" display on the hardware, compare to ampero, nux , headrush etc. but in my opinion for the basic amp tones that you play in this video, clearly this device is above them all
As you Leon, can make any modeler sound good, your crowd can identify the premium tones that Amperium delivers. It is a shocking good modeler, beating the giants in their face, but the 2-3 design decision misses of this Version 1 hardware, will keep sales low. The device is characterized as "Live" but with no Main Volume, External Exp/FS, bad screen and bad onboard user experience, it is at the "Desktop" territory. They must rush to create a Version 2 hardware in order to keep that "Live" character and take a good portion of the new era of modelers that is coming.
If I try ANY amp, all I want to hear is the heavy metal sound. That's the hardest thing to replicate. After that, you can dial in anything. I'd like to hear a metal sound from ya hear but I appreciate that's not your style.
This might interest me some more if they weren't from Ukraine. A, not sure what duties/taxes would apply as I am from the US, and B, not sure what to do if there is a repair needed or what to do if it gets lost on the way to me. Either way, interesting item.
ToneX only has built in reverb whereas this has dedicated modulation/delay/reverb/drives and component based amp modeling, so while it's more expensive it also contains a lot more features
Wow! Seems like there's a new modeler dropping every day. Can't keep up. The technology keeps moving forward. Sounds really good. I expect AI will take this to the next level. How would you rate your Boogie capture compared to the real thing?
If thats how much effect they put into the "graphic" (those silly EVH lines) - then its definitely not killing anything. Looks awful and everything else is probably low effort and shoddily done too.
