I just played stuff and was blown away how Room reverb can make the guitar sound really big (inspired by your King's X bit - the guitar sound on Dogman seems to have a good portion of room)
Goose's album Dripfield, never really been into jam bands before but they're exceptional. Also threw out my back playing some classic Foo Fighters and it may be a couple of weeks before I can jam again 🤦
My buddy has a home theater worth over $250,000 USD with Dolby Atmos and watching KISS live in Las Vegas was quite a treat , but then again so was Babylon with Margo Robbie!!
Deeply appreciate the shout out, and can only respond that great stuff just absolutely requires a decent response. In watching your reviews/demos of the various modelers, I looked for what could be called a "vibe" you gave off, and I really noted that on the Ampero. To maybe state the obvious, it's not just tech and tone. Thanks for answering the question as well as so much else.
As a kid I was fascinated by all the big stadium gigs and festivals like Live Aid. I once built a very cool festival stage with a big audience, lighting, amps with my Lego stuff.
I sold my pod go, because I'm loving the boss ir-2 more...so mojomojo overdrive into the ir-2 ,cheap TC anolog delay (FX loop) all into headrush speaker....using and experimenting with my PRS and my Strat....that was my jamming weekend 🤘🎸🙏
In one of the recent livestreams you mentioned shooting some irs of the 1960b cab. I would love for that to happen. All of your other irs are fantastic, and there seems to be a severe lack of white label g12t-75 irs. A LT 75 mix 7 would be amazing.
I agree 100% with you on Ian Paice being fantastic. Such a powerhouse drummer that helped shape early heavy metal back in the day. Still great today, if maybe a little less explosive behind the kit. 🤘
A friend of mine bought a Heritage LP, on line, just before the changes in 2018. I'd compare it in quality to my '69 LP. Besides the sound; the build/feel is excellent. They really did it right. I haven't played any of their guitars since that change...and they're still in business, which is a good sign. There's been a lot of flak from the Heritage faithful, since they were sold, though. As you said: I think I'd want to try one out or buy with a return option, with that one, at this point.
Question for the next Q&A Leon… Does learning the music of some of your all time favourite songs or artists ruin the magic of the musical piece for you? I find it happens to me at times but also on the other hand I develop a whole new appreciation for it. Thanks mate!
Love that we have such a passionate and thoughtful guitar content creator in our humble little city, Leon you are a Gem. You drive me to want to know and learn more.
I appreciate that! Blows my mind to know people from around the world tune in, but it's even more mind blowing when I find out people in my hometown also like the vids :D
The ToneX models are closer to the original than a Kemper or Quad Cortex, so, it's a *great* choice, the only thing stopping me from buying one is that I have no FX pedals.
@@vaughanmacegan4012 Not my main rig but my tinkering around setup is running a Tonex One into a Zoom MS-70CDR+ into a clean channel little practice amp. The cleaner the better of course if you're going to be using verbs and delays but heck yeah! Great bang for the buck if you want some great sounding effects without breaking the bank
I love lthe idea of some of the modlers and stuf like the Helix, but as i get older i find it harder to learn how to u se these things. Now i know how my dad felt
To quote Abe "grandpa" Simpson - "I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!"
iirc the Ampero stomp has up to 10 ms of latency reported by Leo Gibson. I am trying to find out the latency of the Ampero stage to see if it should go to the top of my list of modellers to buy, unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anything :(. Obviously latency is important to me.
Hey Leon. Fun Episode. I have some credit with a NUX dealer and was curious if you stink the NUX Unit is usable for home through a Headrush FRFR. I have a lot of different modelers and I don’t like tweaking for tone. I’m old and a plug and play guy. I love the Boas IR-2 and have the Headrush Pedalboard 1st edition. I actually loved the Atomic AA6 but one broke, I have 2 ! Sent it to be repaired and it took 5 months turn around and then the LED light went out. They refused to ever get back to me so never again which is sad. I hear conflicting reviews of the NUX Trident. 🔱. Let me know if Neptune would approve. Thanks 🙏
The Opus from Two Notes is still blowing my mind. I just haven't heard anything nearly as good. Would love to hear your thoughts on it. The the Amperium isn't a ToneX killer, the Opus definitely is. I own both and the Opus just has that feel.
So you would recommend the Opus?, i have the Tonex pedal but I’m very curious about the Opus pedal, sounds really good on youtube so would really like to try one…
I absolutely loved the Castle Lego sets. Still my all time favorite. I definitely had the "don't touch sets", as well as the "friends collection". I received the Fender Strat lego kit this year. It was a fun few hours.
Gear snobs are so desperately passe. Modelers, huh? hmm? Those Nu-X MG30 modelers punch way above their weight imho & don't cost a limb or one of ya kids either. The best presets are probably 3A 3B 3C & 3D? I mean sure, Cordy's are cool, and Hermans are hip, though Toddy's are totally tubular. A little minor tweakery these MG30 modelers are really bloody fair dinkum good.. just quietly.🤘🎸gr8 work Leon.. as per usual.
A quick question, Leon, for next time-- Do you ever use a DI box? If so, why? What is it supposed to do (beyond just changing the impedance of the signal)? Thanks.
It also converts unbalanced signal to balanced mic level signal. But there is some tradeoffs. Active DI boxes usually powered by phantom power, but supply current in that case is low, so usually OPAMPs with best performance could not be used. Passive DI boxes not so good for passive pickups.
Aha well I was around when each of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin albums came out, the music in 70 through 76 was unbelievable and where everyone bought albums in volume. emerson lake and palmer, LZ, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton going thru new band, Fleetwood Mac, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, etc. So picking out albums as you were doing was like what you were buying was getting better and better and we looked forward. You are looking backwards when all the vinyl to cassettes to CDs, to DVDs, to MP3, Aif etc. My feeling is many tracks have memories and you dont have memories that go with the songs, you are just judging them. For me LZ1 was playing on my Leak stereo system in a flat over a laundrette up loud was unbelievable when it first arrived. We covered all of it in our band with Carlsboro 100 and 2 x 4 12 cabs no pedals around Carlsboro 100 bass 2 x 18 stacks, Gibson SG Custom and Gibson EB0 bass and the drummer with Premier, the impact of LZ1 part acoustic part rock part blues. It fitted that year!
Hey my brother. I've been trying to get my leg to work. 4 more weeks to start putting weight on it and a few more months of healing. Les Paul guitar I would buy now would be the schecter. They have one with 24 frets and has stainless frets and USA made pickups by schecter.. ❤ I do the same thing with fender bridges. Just deck them. It works. ! ❤ Mids on a rectifier rock!! ❤❤ Great video brother. I need to buy your cat some food on Patron❤.. Sorry for not being online. I'm doing a lot of physical therapy and it's taking up my time as well as staying busy reading and such that I couldn't or didn't have time for before being home bound with this fractured leg. Always a great Q and A video. Love these videos.. ❤ Be well sir and be safe. ❤❤
@@LeonTodd Thank you brother. It's healing slowly. Ever so slowly. Driving me mad. Not used to not being able to get out and do things for myself. Having just one leg to work with is horrible, 🤣 but I will survive it . Thanks again brother. ♥️🤘
Thanks for answering my question Leon! I followed your instructions, I think it worked :) I'm also thinking about buying an SE McCarty 594 Singlecut. Have you tried it?
With Gibsons one needs to do what you did mate, try as many as the same as possible, one needs to find the diamond amongst the filth with many Gibson models - the ships anchors awkward ergonomically hard to grab to the just downright unplayable dogs... trawling thru as many examples of the same Gibson especially LPs is typical for the savvy guitarcheologist.
@@matthewtayloryowieresearch1912 100%, I’d never buy a Gibson without playing it and I’ve bought many guitars sight unseen! I only bought a studio but while looking I was playing a lot of standards and none of them felt good. Oddly enough every epiphone I picked up felt great though
How are you Leon? I have a question concerning the Synergy Amps: I have wanted a Syn-2 for ages, but recently I have gotten hold of the Engl e530 and it is fantastic. I got it for the same price as a used Synergy Module. I can get the PRS MT15 for cheaper than a Synergy module and I am starting to wonder if it is worth it. For studio use, what would you gravitate towards and why? Seperate amps or Synergy?
@@vaughanmacegan4012 I haven't noticed any type of latency at all. I'm really impressed how well the Stage works while playing guitar and singing with the mic.. I'm using it in a desktop setup with an iMac and going XLR into 2 KRK Monitor speakers. Sounds amazing. As far Latency goes... the only comparison I can make is with something like BIAS FX2 where I need to reduce the Buffer size to 128 samples to avoid any latency. So far with the Stage I haven;t noticed anything at all latency wise. If I find out anything the more I use it I'll check back in. So far I'm just really impressed with the Stage. I've tried a lot of Effects processors now from the low end to the hight end stuff... and Hotone seems to have really cracked the code on nailing a lot of stuff the others haven't when it comes to being a "Copy Cat" of amps and effects etc... This Stage might be the best Effects Processor/Modeler under $2K. Definitely competes with the big boys in a lot of areas for a lot less price wise
Your videos need more cat in them, always look forward to seeing one. I was huge into Lego in my childhood in the mid to late 80's into early 90's much like you. I remember getting a few sets, one was the castle, and definetly some of the space themed and the pirate ship stuff. I think i was too ADHD to actually ever finish a set, and eventually I would just build my own creations, and all the different set pieces got mixed up into big suitcases. My mom would also find lots of random Lego stuff at garage/rummage sales for really cheap. I think they are still in possession but all the set pieces are mixed up together so it maybe impossible to actually build one to Lego spec. I should look into trying to sell the lot as a whole, but shipping costs would probably be insane. Late Zep for the win (Physical Graffiti, Presence, Houses of Holy). I have a early/mid 90's stock Gibson LP Standard ebony with the cream binding, never selling it.
Also had Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, and probably the coolest was the Capsela motorised/battery controlled modular vehicle stuff, and matchbox cars and tracks. I would get all those out and build huge room size city/fortress/streets tracks for my matchbox cars.
I Love the PRS with the Moon Inlays! You also Nailed it on the Multi watt Rectifier advice, and for My question! I hear nothing but good things about the Ampero and Love the V stomp modeling which had Me buying the binary amp with same cdcm modeling and it’s absolutely trash. The IIc and diezel models sound more like a Rectifier. I sold My triple with matching 4 12 slant 25 years ago and still cannot find a pedal to emulate it. Right now using buffer Aby to tubescreamer clone in AMT R2 with a 10 band into a mooer radar through powered monitors and wedge. It doesn’t come close and I was wondering Your favorite or best Rect O Box’s You would recommend! I always stayed on the orange channel modern with TS in front! The thank You Leon You content is absolutely top tier!
Love the Lego rant. 🤣There's some serious parallels there. I had Meccano - which probably accounts for my bespoke pedal boards....... Got into Lego with my kids, it was really interesting to see what they would build, loved it. I made a 1200mm² 'Legoland' in the style of a train set with roads, grass, topography and areas of the base sheets to build on.
@@LeonTodd Early training for building racks maybe. I had a clockwork motor 😳 in the 1960s. It was the latest and greatest then, really made you think like an engineer.
When you get it home it probably won't sound as good. Ytbers put it through $4k worth of tone skulpting gear and cabs and mics. That has been my experience. I returned my Ampero II. Bought a FM9 which sounded great via studio monitors.
@@MOAB-UT I agree that the RU-vidr's signal chain is extremely important when demoing products, and should always be disclosed, and displayed on screen. In fact, I recently saw a video where that was done, and the difference between the Guitar Cab and Computer Speakers (Monitors?) was dramatic and concerning.
@@picksalot1 100% agree. Leon's tone is consistently amazing- regardless of what he plays. Here is a good example of how most of us will hear the Ampero II and it's not great. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ve8V3qUBnLg.htmlsi=EF9Uej3Z5oYvCyIB&t=66 I will say that Fractal FM3 or FM9 did sound relatively much better. I use cheap, but perfectly decent studio monitors. I can add an amp or two if needed via my pedalboard.
@@MOAB-UTi think they just run an equalizer which you have for free in your daw. Its totally normal to eq the guitar with high and low pass and cut some nasty frequencies out. The difference is like day and night. The link you posted: this is recorded from "outside" (camera or phone), so its not the sound straight out of the device, what you normally do. It has to run through a daw and you record from there..
The pirate ships! The red one was the goat. Our mum came home from the states and brought us the blue one we were always disappointed it wasn't the bigger red one
Man I had the same pirate ship! I took it to show and tell for school and when I was leaving I dropped it. and it was 2 weeks after I built it, remember it like yesterday lol
My wife bought my optimis prime from christmas last year, amd the fender guitar this year. I really want voltron but its 500$ and thats a tough with a harley davidson addiction thats taken over my garage as well as the guitars, both which has bee a life long love...
Dude i saw Judas Priest open....lol yeah for Deep Purple in Atlanta in 2018, ir was on the FIREPOWER TOUR. BUT THEY WERE FLIPFLOPING HEADLINDER DATES. It was a little sad.. cause most people were just leaving after the PRIEST. BUT TBEY did sound pretty darn good for their age... steve Morse was doing the lead guitar on that tour.. and that dude is amazing.. ok peace out Brother
My trip to what I call guitar heaven is completed. I know this is only what I sampled, but this is at one of the best, most revered stores (30 years) in the country great players visit - so their quality is gonna be above smaller stores imo. My Review/Report - I played no less than 6 '59 Custom Shop Reissues($6700/ea). I report that even Gibson Custom Shop QC is in need of quite a bit of improvement from my pov. Missing screw on pup selector cover holding the Custom Shop cover on. High E tuner that I could turn a full turn and it did nothing to pitch. Not one really good setup from supposedly Plek'd guitars. Frets not properly dressed. Every ABR-1 put off ugly buzzes and unnatural (to me) high harmonics. Nothing I'd pay new Standard money for ($3K). I played the Heritage H150 Custom Core I had an eye on and it SMOKED the '59s in every category for a professional level instrument save for pickup tone imho. I loved every aspect save for the pickups. Great intonation, great setup (I lowered the 'high side a small amount for my feel) great frets and very good tuning stability. It was gonna live at Camp Shep until - I played the PRS Tremonti (no trem). I'm gonna use a number I feel is ballpark of how much better it is compared to the H150 Custom Core - 15%. 40% better than the 59's. In every category. Their one piece bridge system gives off no undesireable effects the Gibson ABR-1s did. Even the Heritage displayed a little of it. Their locking tuner system and the tuning stability of it and the pegs is incredible. The setup required a small truss treak to get 'my feel'. Does not buzz. BEST frets from factory. Sound - I went looking for a guitar to do great PAF tone to get my in the Pat Travers ballpark with my Axe Fx iii (I took it and played through my really nice salesmans' Mission Gemini 2). I found the Tremonti pickup to just be very loud, not distorted just unbelievably loud. I lowered it to the point that it came losse from the screw. But it sounded great there! Having had this next step done before, I had their great tech cut the ring down to the same height as the neck ring. He did, put new strings on it, and it was perfect for me. The balance in the middle with neck on 5 and bridge on 10 - right where I like it. This PRS Tremonti 10 Top is a bucket list level guitar for me. I can't wait to fire it up loud today. LT, I'm sure I speak for the masses saying thank you for being here because your heart to help. You sir, are the guitarists with questions 'swiss army knife'. We're all doing better with our music path with your shared wealth of experience. Here's a peek at the new member of my household - filedn.com/lBWz9Sa82UTJ11C5mKLOtdh/Close%20On%20Stand.jpg
@@LeonTodd at the end of the day they are all Mimicking a really good vintage Les Paul. Let’s not forget a lot of those vintage Les Paul’s were turds as well as Les Paul’s from all eras.
@@MrSpike7590 I certainly can't afford a original from the late 50's. I will try multiple reissues along with Heritage PRS single cuts. It could be viewed that all the Reissues they're churning are mimicking themselves. And yeah, vintage turds are still turds! That made me laugh that 'knowing' laugh.
