Where did all the good music go? Louie always sounded great. Doc and the band were superb, as usual..

No matter what drum manufacturer whether it be Rodgers Ludwig Slingerland Gretch Fibes or any company that makes drums. Its the Man behind the drum set. Here the late great Louie Bellson could play any set of drums and make them sound great. We all miss Louie.

I have an old set of Rogers from 1972 with the larger sized drums (24 inch bass, 13 and 14 inch rack toms and 16 and 18 inch floor toms) and I also have a set of Remo (which Louie later endorsed) in similar sizes on double bass kit but I never set them up side by side to see how they differ in sound. That's something I should do. Of course to do any sort of sound comparison one would need to put the same heads on and try to use the same tuning.

First big band drummer I saw live was Roy Burns. A year later in '74 ? I saw Louie at Disneyland. Playing the new Pearl drums. Both fantastic artists. A couple of years later, I saw Buddy's band at Disneyland. Well, now that was in a whole different league!!! RIP to all three.

He played Slingerland, Gretsch, Rogers, Pearl, and Remo. I never asked him but I would bet he would’ve said Remo...but more out of loyalty to Remo Belli. That’s the type of guy Louie was. One of the nicest people I’ve ever known.

That was a great performance by Louie and the band. I wish the direction and camerawork were half as good. (Up until Louie's solo the camerawork was pretty bad, and the shot selections by the director were not very good.) But the bottom line is the band and Louie were fantastic! That's a really good album, too! (150 MPH)
