I miss living in Omaha all the time. My friends and family all assumed I would hate it there, but I wound up falling in love with it. It’s such a hidden gem in the middle of the flyover states. Maybe I’ll make it back one day.
My hometown! That store at 3:35 is AMAZING! There are so many fun gems in there! I got some Prince & Diana Ross record vinyls. Ahhh I miss home now lol
Years ago we would visit the Zoo frequently and we loved going there. That's been some 30 years ago. It's looks awesome now. I'd love to go back! Also, wondering if there still a train museum somewhere downtown. That was the children's other favorite place to go! We loved visiting Omaha!
This is a great video! It truly helped me delegate our time. I highly recommend at the very least visiting the zoo/aquarium(on a "slower" day), Durham museum, and the SAC museum. All great for kids and adults. Thanks for the great video friend.
The Omaha metro is actually a pretty nice area with great restaurants and plenty of things to do. I know it’s stuck in a backward state but the metro is a lot different from the rest of it...it’ll surprise you if you’re just expecting corn and ignorant bumpkins.
Love the Zoo!!! I was lucky enough to give animal talks at Sea Lion Shores, African Safari, Penguins, Tigers and more. Don't miss our zoo in 2022 baby giraffe and 2 baby elephants also!!!
Zoo, CWS, Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge, Lauritzen Gardens, Holy Family Shrine, Hollywood Candy, drive-thru safari, Warren Buffet’s house, Malcolm X’s birth-site, the street named after Frank Sinatra, Children’s Museum...
There is still plenty to do in winter, even the zoo is still open. Also, the weather is so unpredictable that depends on when you are visiting. For example, today we have 60 degree weather, last week we were at 4 degrees. For the most part, January is going to be very cold. Downtown has lots of options - Old Market is open and things to do in winter, the Joslyn is open, Durham museum is open. I think a 12 year old would enjoy the zoo the best. The aquarium, the indoor herd rooms, the desert dome and the IMAX theater are all open in winter at the zoo. I hope that helps and enjoy your visit. Tyler, thank you. I did film it myself. Some of the video footage was from several weeks back - so there is a learning curve with filming b-roll. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
It’s a great place to go out to eat. LoSole Mio, Hunger Block, Block 16, Virtuoso, Maria’s, King Kong, Scooter’s, Runza, E Creamery, Jones Brothers’ Cupcakes...

Don't forget the best doughnuts around South of the Old Market on 10th st. Tom Olsen Doughnuts. Get there when they open at 7 am. Closed Sundays and Mondays I believe
@@DavidMatney I haven't been there but Stella's in Bellevue for burgers may be worth mentioning. If you stay in Omaha then Dinkers burgers need a plug :)
Veronica, thanks for the comment. The winters are unpredictable. Some winters we get a decent amount of snow, some winters are not so bad. It does get cold. January is the worst month for the cold. The zoo does stay open all year long and yes you can visit and walk across the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge.
I have never been to those gardens or the Omaha Children's museum. I think this is an excellent list BUT I have been to the SAC museum and was not that impressed. I would rather go to a haunted park (Hummel Park) or eat at the same time as raccoons (Alpine Inn) than to go there.
Nice video...the city grew a lot since i was there...the zoo is much bigger now.wow. Is the union Pacific rr museum still there? I thought it was nice...
Dana, thanks for the kind words. The Union Pacific museum is now in Council Bluffs next to the historic Squirrel Cage jail. It is on my list of places to visit for another video on more things to do near or around the Omaha area. The zoo has indeed seen tremendous growth in the past several years. I just shot some footage for a video on just the zoo itself. Omaha continues to grow and also improve and revitalize older parts of the city. It really is neat to see. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@DavidMatney your welcome... Keep in mind I haven't lived there in 40 years...the walk bridge is a big addition...i wonder how the traffic is now...almost none back then.
I have received several questions on the traffic so I did a downtown to Elkhorn drive at 5 PM on Dodge St. You will be in for a big surprise if has been 40 years since you have been to Omaha. Here is the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hP5YgC4xTvQ.html
@@DavidMatney i heard the Missouri River flooded 2 or 3 yrs ago...never saw that...was it over the dike on the cb side north of the bridge.? If it was hard to believe...that's a lot of water . i used to ride dirt bikes by the river and on top the dike.
I think Omaha is not that bad but I know another good place and its called the Oak View Mall its really good they got good stuff especially the dipindots.
James, Midtown Omaha is highly desired especially with being so close to Nebraska Medicine. The homes are older, since Midtown Omaha is in an older part of the city however, they do sell quickly. Since the homes tend to be older they tend to have more "character" with features such as hardwood floors, etc. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
I used to went to children museum when I was younger, there were little chicks there but I don't know if there still there also it was part of a school field trip and children museum is near liberty elementary school where I used to go 2 or 1 year ago I miss this memory ☆*:. o(≧▽≦)o .:*☆
Top 5 things to do in omaha is drink in bars! Awesome people and MANY bars to choose from. Leavenworth st. is loaded with them the neighbers is the best! Yes that's the spelling. Forget the hipster shit and get to know the friendly ''everyman'' of the midwest and have a shot of granny leroux aka polish marijuana !
I wanna go to the Children's Museum with my wife but don't have kids. Went when I was young... I'm 37 in Nov. Don't wanna look like some weirdos LMAO!!!
Sam, I plan on doing a separate video on some of the great places to eat in Omaha Spoiler alert: One of my favorite steakhouses is The Drover. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Very nice and all are wonderful. What wasn’t…the narrator with the constant “now the’s and now this” NOW is not a way to start a sentence in your entire conversation.
Chuck, good point. I can definitely improve my narration skills! I was not even aware I did that, so your feedback is helpful and appreciated. Thanks again for taking the time to comment. Thank you.
