Legend says, in a 1000 years time, the legendary commander player will arrive to predict us the next Moxfield ad, bringing peace and balance to the game.
I have one in really beautiful condition. Doesn't make much sense for me to play with it when other people in my play group literally proxy entire decks though.
19:24 "Both don't produce any mana at all by themselves" is wrong, since they both say "each land", not "each other land", so they include themselves. They're effectively just a better Swamp and Forest, respectively, discounting the fact that they die to nonbasic land removal and that Ayumi landwalks over them
I think it could have been fun to have "honorable mentions" between listing #2 and #1. I was kind of thinking Maze of Ith might be on here, Thespian Stage, or War Room could make the list. Always love the content!
Man they day Yavimaya was spoiled I was ecstatic. Having that and Urborg in Kozilek for Eye of Ugin, Maze of Ith, Hall of the Bandit Lord and Mishra’s Workshop is extremely valuable! Nice vid boys ;)
Above that I would put Dakmor Salvage. Having dredge on a land is busted and goes infinite really easily. I might be partial cause I play Gitrog but I obviously play chasm as well.
Glacial chasm is so absurd. In my Kura commander deck this just lets me lock so much of the table out of the game, and it’s not even that hard to protect.
Used Boseiju in against a colorless deck the other day. Took out their Lodestone Golem. They asked if I would pay the extra one, I said no. They asked if they could search for a waste, I said no again!
Filth and Urborg is pretty cool. You can even do a janky little setup with Final Parting by entombing Filth and tutoring Urborg, playing it, giving all of your creatures swampwalk and all lands are now Swamps
For yavimaya, don't forget about scryb ranger/quirion ranger being able to return a land and untap a creature. Being able to tap, then bounce then replay a cradle or a nykthos due to the forest typing yavimaya provides can get you a stupid amount of mana.
I beg to differ on Phyrexian Tower, the BB you get from saccing a creature can be VERY useful.^^ Use it to get two activations of Attrition take out two non black creatures and get two more sac triggers for you, and they better hope you don't have a Dictate of Erebos out.^^
I think off-color fetches only have real utility if you can reliably recur them (loam, crucible, etc) or if the lower end of the curve is pip-dense. I have a lot of RR, BB, and RB cards in Neheb Minotaur tribal, so that’s the only deck I have off-color fetches in
Lands that (can) win the game: Strip Mine Crawling Barrens Den of the Bugbear Dark Depths Field of the Dead Kessig Wolf Run Cabal Coffers Gaea's Cradle Serra's Sanctum Mystic Sanctuary
I'm a big fan of utility lands, I pretty much slam them into a deck before doing my colour fixing - I play all of these besides #6, though I wasn't quite expecting Phyrexian Tower to be that high, I should probably slam it into more decks.
Another awesome video! I just had an idea for a cool video and I thought I should tell you guys about it since I don't make content myself anymore. You guys should make a video about how to set your mana curve and what spells you generally want to play at specific costs. For example: I would say that generally in the one and two drop slots you want spells that ramp, remove, and cantrip, and these would comprise about 1/3 of my decks nonland cards if not more. At the eight drop slot you generally want spells that when you the game, and I would generally include about four or five of these.
I wonder what locations on Dominaria will complete the "All lands are X" cycle... assuming Shiv will be Mountains. What if there's an extra one for Zhalfir like "All lands are Wastes" xD hahaha oof... though I would assume since most "time-magic" is Blue, Zhalfir might be Islands.
I have been wanting a legendary cycle of basic land types forever. Shiv would be perfect but they might just make it a normal legendary land like Yavimaya/Urborg. If they do then I would have no complaints and let’s just keep crossing our fingers
honestly don't think that is a cycle they want to complete because cards like Boil are legal in modern and they don't want to make instant speed armageddon a thing for modern as a format.
For #2 on the contrary. They do produce mana by themselves. If you put either down on turn 1 you could tap them for the type they assign to every land since they assign it to themselves. Not a big deal but they can still produce mana on their own 😀 But yeah they really have a ton of utility and I don't even know all them but I stumble into some time to time. Like I have the old card Living Lands - makes all forests 1/1 creatures in addition to lands. Throw in a cradle and Living lands and all of a sudden your opponents lands are now at risk of anything that stifles or destroys creatures. Of course so are yours but as you guys mentioned. This is something you do with a plan in mind so that you're almost indisputably benefiting more.
I tapped a land once, but that was a long time ago. I have tried drawing a hand by myself but it just isnt the same. Man 2 and a half months sure take a toll on you!
I used to play urborg in mono G lands just so I could tap fetches and other non mana producing lands when I run out of basics. Card has so many fun synergies.
Solid list, I actually hate playing Urborg and Yavimaya. I have a pimped mana base (fetches, duals, triomes, shocks etc) more often than not in my decks I’m fine for colours of mana. They usually end up assisting my opponents more than I ever see the benefit. In good mana bases I don’t think they’re needed
@@NitpickingNerds Depends if I get Mishra's Factory and Explorer's Scope in my opening hand or not :P Hard to say though, I think it's pretty decent, certainly racked up some Ws in my playgroup, it's one of the only decks I've kept around despite basically everyone switching to Commandrr. Managed to beat a Standard deck once (granted being functionally vintage certainly helps, but I'm assuming Standard decks are generally designed to win vs. say a "goblins with hats" deck. Red Deck Wins would prolly demolish it, but kicking a Rite of Replication on Hero of Bladehold is a pretty good way to beat Hero of Bladehold apparently.
Yavimaya + Eladamri is my favorite flavor win in elves. My forests have grown densely and crept into my opponents land allowing my elves to march in undetected to smack ya right in the face!
Great vid. Are y'all doing deck upgrades for the Battle for baulders gate precons? Would like to see party time and exit from exile's. I made the rivateers rampage modifications and it's one of my favorite decks
If mox field would be an actual card. Land Tap: create a token of your choice: create an artifact with "Tap: create a colorless artifact with( tap: add 3 colorless mana) create any mox from o. g. mox cycle. create a land token of your choice except it loses Legendary if it is: Wasteland, Nykthos, Tolarian Academy, Ancient Tomb, Gaea's Cradle, Cabal Coffers, Fable Passage
Normally I get really annoyed when youtubers put the same advertisement in the middle of every video. Here tho I don’t mind because I love moxfield it is amazing
So I cut urzas saga from my tokens deck because at the time I only had 1 artifact it could get. But after edits I now have 3 plus ESPER SENTINEL. Was looking for a upgrade to a utility land slot that's isn't working out
Chatterfang loves yavimaya since it has forrest walk. I also use phyrexian tower in the deck since im popping out squirrel tokens like rodents do on their own.
Underrated mention: Emergence Zone - Comes into play untapped - 1 + sacrifice Emergence Zone to play any spells for the rest of the turn as Flash - Win games on opponents turns with proper set up :P
fetch lands are better in legacy vintage and modern. i get that they fetch things but like you get one copy of the fetches and one copy of a something that’s worth fetching, basics are generally the last thing to fetch, i don’t run fetch lands in commander because i don’t think they are anywhere as strong as they are in constructed formats
I run Urza's Saga in my Liesa Forgotten Archangel (midnight hunt) deck just because it can find Skullclamp. The only other target in the deck is sol ring. Skullclamp is just so crazy that I think it pretty much justified Urza's Saga on its own in a 2 color deck
I'm so mad that Volrath's Stronghold is on the reserved list. I'd love to put it in a bunch of decks, but it's absolutely not worth $75 or whatever. Hopefully at some point they do an almost-functional reprint (or better yet, just abolish the RL).
@@baconsir1159 Original versions of cards still maintain most of their value. Most vintage cards get their value from their historic/collectable attributes, rather than from their value as game pieces. A lot of them don't even see much play. For an example of what I mean, look at the price of Alpha/Beta Shivan Dragons. The card itself as a game piece is virtually worthless, you can get them for a couple cents, but Alpha/Beta Shivan Dragons cost thousands of dollars. Also, tell me you've speculated on RL cards without telling me you've speculated on RL cards ;)
@@sailorforce Sure, that's fine, I just don't personally really like playing with proxies. I'm very much in favor of people using them and punishing WotC as much as possible, I just don't really like using them myself. As someone who spent my entire childhood playing with LEGOs, it's very similar to how I wouldn't want to mix Mega Bloks in with my LEGOs.
oh, i run elesh with urborg and kormus bell, never had the chance to pull it off, but it's there. the bell on it's own is brutal with elesh in some games tho.
By themselves, Urborg taps for one black mana and Yavimaya taps for one green mana. What did you mean @ 19:23 both don't produce any mana by themselves?
"Top 10 cards below a certain number of decks" would be interesting, I think. many of these top 10s are about cards that are already popular and well known.
I've never seen field of the dead do anything considering how much people love it. I think standard it was good but Ive just never seen it make more than 2 or 3 zombies in a game. It has just got cut from all my decks, great trade in though! 👍
I dont think fotd is actually an utility land, its a combo piece/part of a larger labdfall package. 2 or 3 zombies by the lategame deffinitelly isnt worth a colorless tapland. Play it on landfall? You have too many bodies and can do whatever you want. People will need to boardwipe every single turn just so you dont kill them.
@@Blackvolttage I've seen it make maybe 10 zombies in a game in a dedicated high level landfall deck, definitely better value than a basic in that for sure
I play Yarok landfall, and him doubling the zombies earned with each land, and doubling ramp, so that wood elves, could grab a forest, and a snow-covered forest. Thats two names. But with field of the dead online, a wood elves would grab two lands which would then produce four zombies, 4 2/2s, a 1/1, and ramping two lands is insane value for 3 mana
Card List so you don't have to view the whole thing: 1. Island 2. Island 3. Island 4. Island 5. Island 6. Island 7. Revised Island 8. Unlimited Island 9. Beta Island 10. Alpha Island
I know you guys gave your definition of what utility lands are, but I really disagree with fetches being considered utility lands. Their primary purpose is fixing, and while they do have very real upsides of shuffling, filling the graveyard, and creating extra landfall triggers, I would say that to be considered a utility land, people should be primarily playing it for non-fixing reasons. Also, Field of the Dead is placed way too low. I truly think every single deck should be playing that card, regardless of what their color identity is.
