We look at the top 10 worst franchises to buy by SBA loan defaults. Number one has a whopping 92% failure rate! More than 9 out of 10 franchise loans defaulted! Can you guess what franchise it is?
Many buyers think that buying an SBA approved business is an assurance that they are buying a quality franchise. For those that don't know the SBA is the governments small business administration and they will guarantee part of your loan when you purchase certain "approved" franchises. You would think the government would only approve good franchises, or at least this is the perception most people have, I just checked the searches for "SBA franchise list" and it is up over 5000% on Google.
Let's take a look at the top 10 worst franchises for failure rates on SBA loans. This information is not in real time as it takes time to collate all the data and the SBA releases information that may be a year or two behind. these are people who took out loans on a franchise and couldn't pay it back and we only included franchises that sold at least 10 units. These are franchises that the government gambled your dollars on and lost.
Number 10 on the list with a 67% failure rate is Figaro’s Italian Pizza. Buyers lost up to $596,000 per location.
Number 9 is Pro Golf, also with a 67% failure rate. These buyers who failed lost at least $400,000 and had almost a 7 out of 10 chance of failure.
Our next worst franchise at number 8 is Camille’s Sidewalk Café with a whopping 70% failure rate. Buyers lost up to $589,000 per location. Often peoples life savings.
Number 7 worst franchise is Country Clutter with a 71% SBA loan failure rate. These buyers were lucky they only would have lost up to $350,000 dollars.
Play N Trade with a 71% failure rate is our number 6 worst franchise and would have cost buyers up to $216,000.
Executive Tans is the number 5 worst franchise with an alarming 72% failure rate. We have bee cautioning buyers who call us about the tanning industry for over a decade as the failure rate is massive. Real people, real money, up to $448,000 dollars for a single location being lost to franchises that keep selling. We have another tanning salon on the list at number 2 coming up - can you guess who it is?
Number four worst franchise is Wireless Toyz with a 74% SBA failure rate. Buyers would have invested as much as $693,000 to buy a Wireless Toyz franchise with more than a 7 of 10 chance of failure.
Number three on the list is 24 Seven Vending with almost an 80% chance of failure at a 79% default rate on loans
Image Sun is number two on the list, another tanning concept that has an 80% sba loan default rate. Tanning has been a very poor industry overall, and continues to suffer with more government regulations and health concerns. Thee was actually a third well known tanning concept number 12, that just missed making this list. Buyers who work with us can get a free tanning industry report you can learn more on the link at the end of this video.
And the #1 worst franchise for SBA failure rates is Noble Roman Pizza with a 92% SBA loan failure rate. Apparently at one time Noble Roman had sued every single one of their franchisees and some owners suggested the company "has used litigation as a revenue source,". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noble_R...
There are a lot of good franchises as well as terrible franchises if you need assistance (its free!) just give us a call at franchise city - we'll help you avoid the bad ones. www.franchise.city/our-services

In all fairness to wireless toyz, a 2 month training was just not enough. It should have been a 6 month training. Also as an owner you needed to be super proactive and learn repairs, that was a business on its own, non of the lazy franchises wanted to learn.I already had knowledge in the wireless industry that’s why I was a success, but I was always learning, the other franchises in my market (Florida) were not motivated to do the work and all closed down within 2 years of starting. I lasted 13 years and then converted into a repair center and I’m opened under an independent name til this day. Cellular ER, in North Miami Beach.

@@FranchiseCityOnline they also opened a lot more. If you open and close 1 franchise, you have 100% failure. Percentage closed is more important.

@@jakp8777 Subway closed NET stores (so stores that opened up are backed out) 866 in 2017, 1,108 in 2018 and 996 stores in 2019. They are averaging 1000 stores closed a year. The new disclosure is due shortly so we can see what happened in Covid times I'm thinking it wont be pretty :-) Thanks for the comment!

@@FranchiseCityOnline One of my friends bought 5 Subway restaurants around 2011, and was even interviewed on a national cable business news channel as a young entrepreneur. By 2013 he’d sold them all. He bounced back, but if he’d picked a better franchise it could have worked out.

Another great presentation from Robert! Never heard of any of those listed and I have lived in the Chicago Metro are for 44 years. That aside, why in the world would anyone by a tanning franchise? Just buy your own machines, rent a really nice commercial space, make sure the interior is pretty and immaculate, etc. and you might have a chance of success IF you are in the right market. Just sayin'... :)

Nekter Juice Bar shoule be on the list. I own a Nekter Juice Bar franchise and this company, Steve Schulz, Jeff Barney and others there have made my life a living hell. Very bizarre behavior from them as I would get phone calls from bullies there literally screaming at me. These scammers had even tried stealing my store back from me starting a few days before the store opened and countless times while I owned it. They sent me countless, meritless legal letters and threatened me (verbally) countless times legally all while I had worked over 100 hours per week at times to help build their brand. And constantly they were sending Nekter representatives (thugs) to harass my employees and me. And their brand is really just glorified, high-sugar, expensive drinks that really are not even that healthy. Many of their recipes call for an insane amount of sweetener but people are fooled by the marketing. Steve Schulz is a snake oil salesman con artist fraudster as well and many don't know but he was caught labeling his products as organic when they were not. Many franchisees have lost a lot of money with these liars. Steve Schulz is a proven con-artist. What can you say about a guy who sleeps around behind his wife's back even with Nekter employees (even at a company event in front of everyone) and then show up on Christian podcasts talking about his strong faith. He uses the obese, Barney Rubble looking fat boy Jeff Barney as his thug. Run from Nekter Juice Bar if you are considering a franchise with them. Many people have lost money with them. It is hilarious listening to some of these Nekter owners profess positive sentiments for Nekter as I know many of them on these videos and they have extremely negative things to say about Nekter and Steve Schulz when in private. The reality is that only a very small percentage of owners make decent money. 10 years ago Steve Schulz would boast constantly that he would have close to several hundred stores by 2020 and they have been stuck at around 200 for the last several years. And I feel storry for many people who signed franchise agreements stating a short window where they must build there store otherwise they lose their $35,000 franchise fee. It is an easy scam for Steve Schulz to legally steal that money from many scammed, unsuspecting people.

@@FranchiseCityOnline Ahh... at least that name rings a bell. Either way they couldn’t be ethical players with that kind of failure rate. This business isn’t for everyone, requires more work than a lot of people think to both develop and maintain client relationships, but with decent locations should always generate an adequate ROI.
