Great content! Keep up the great work. I love my 67i. Amazing for POTA and SOTA activities and general hiking.

Hi there, I just found your channel and have to say I like it a lot and have just hit that subscribe button. I'm not really a hiker, or a sailor but hiking does enter as part of my real hobby, Paragliding. I'm an American who, as a helicopter pilot took a job in China way back in the late 90s and have been here ever since. A few years back I retired from the job but just had to keep flying so I took up paragliding as my main hobby. As a paraglider pilot, many of us do cross-country flights, and often times if we happen to land out in the middle of nowhere, hiking and finding one's way home can be an issue which is what led me to your reviews of Garmin and other devices. I've used Garmin GPSs as a helicopter pilot and always found them reliable but these were the kind that were hardwired into the aircraft. Now I am investigating what is available and what is legal, where. I don't believe there is an issue with any of these in China or anywhere else I fly except India. :Last October I did some cross-country flying in the Himalayan foothills of Northern Indai and stopped short of buying the Inreach as quite a few people have had these devices confiscated by Indian customs. I look forward to more of your content and if you have any insight about the different equipment available and if you know what kind of worldwide cover each might have either technically or legally I'd be glad to hear about it. For myself most of my paragliding activity has been in China, Southeast Asia, India and Europe. I'm in the United Kingdom at the moment but the weather has been uncooperative so no adventures lately. I'm hoping to visit the States again soon and do some flying there. I'm from New England but love visiting the Northwest. I'm sure there's great flying all over the country. Thanks again, I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Hey Bob, I apologize for the late reply. I started a new job two weeks ago and was in Oregon and Washington all last week. I am a private pilot in fixed wing, but haven't flown at all in the last 15 years. It would be great to get out and see the world as you are doing. Here's a few thoughts. First, the Garmin devices have Global, Pole-to-Pole satellite coverage and they are my favorite satellite communicators. Second, as to where they are legal to use, I am aware of several places you cannot take them but I would check with Garmin to see if they have up to date information. The Garmin GPSMAP 67i is my favorite satellite communicator as I like not being dependent on my phone's battery life or the technology with syncing, if that ever became a problem. The Garmin Mini 2 is my second favorite and it's almost as powerful as the 67i when it's synced with your smartphone. I use the Mini 2 on day hikes and the 67i when I'm out on longer adventures. I could add a lot more to this conversation but let me know if you have any questions and I'll be glad to help. Rick

I'm looking for a capable and reliable sat communicator. You mentioned your'e not fond of syncing the unit with a smart phone, such as Zoleo and Bivi stick. Why is this?

Personally, I don't like that there is a possibility that there will be a technological problem or my phone will run out of battery, then both the Zoleo and the Bivystick are pretty much dumb devices. You can still hit Check-in and send out the SOS alert, but you will not be able to message anyone. Both of those devices are great and if I were short on money, I wouldn't worry about tech problems or my battery going out on my phone, but I would make sure I carried a portable charger with me. I hope that helps some. Don't hesitate to ask additional questions. Rick

Thank-you, that answers my question and makes perfect sense. I mostly need the check-in and sos alert option. No matter where I go, I always have a small Honda generator so a dead phone is not an issue. CHEERS!@@outdooremergencytech
