watching these vids always makes me nervous lmao, I've been riding for 15 years now but im always wondering if im the dipshit on the mountain. thankfully it seems like im doin alright
Several seasons ago I bought some flow bindings & accidentally set them up with the ratchets on the inside, figured out I messed up when I got on the lift & my front binding popped loose & my board came off. Luckily it was right after I got on the lift & not when I was way up over a run. Could’ve killed somebody.. this entertaining video could literally save somebody’s life!
@@recca7I mean you ride daily, youre gonna see all this garbage. like Toe-in was the crazy one, cant believe people even ride that without going straight to medical
@@recca7 I believe it because I'm in that group. In my defense, that was early on in my first season, so like he said, sense of balance is bad. I've gotten a lot better at "stepping in" without falling on my ass.
lmao at #4. Setting forward is the most terrifying thing ever, so twitchy and unstable. And wow so many stupidly wide stances w/ serious duck angles but no switch riding. Then #1 takes it to a whole nother level. This top 5 is lovely
Forgot the "I can't tell wich is the nose or tail of the board" (bindings set backwards).... working at a tune shop in Spain is another universe of weird !! Thnx Avran, saludos from Barcelona.
ime it's not so much they're lazy, most just are beginner(more accurately, low knowledge) snowboarders or skiers so they're totally ignorant to how convoluted snowboard bindings can get.
Lol agree with all of these except I do run my bindings forward on the orca it wasn’t how I started out on it though I went through a couple different positions first maybe I’m one of those kooks 🤷🏻
-People who use only 2 screws to install their 4 hole mount bindings -Those who manage to install their mini disk mounted bindings wrong -Kooks and their fucked up job of mounting their 20year old Burton 3D setup
Lol I just saw this and had me laughing my ass off. I honestly laugh at everyone sitting down on anything, but the bunny runs. Don't get me going on lift wipes on more advanced terrain. I have come back to the sport after 25 years...what happened to the lifeguard type lift attendants that actually yelled at people for doing stupid shit? Like sitting/standing at the bottom of lift exits? Back in the day they used to yell at people??....now they just sit in their lift houses and collect checks and stay warm.
Lol I go a bit wider on certain boards I have, but I dont go too wide like the 2010s rocker technine kids did. I did try to more smaller stance for park like the jib kids did, felt like I was gonna wash out on everything lol.
not to resurrect the dead... but i just recently got put onto rome. i was getting minor heal lift so i sized down to ride lasso pro size 10's from 10.5. much better fit for me now... i got the L rome bindings... since youre a size 10 and ride rome black labels... what size bindings are you running? just curious. im wondering if i should get the M/L
@@AngrySnowboarder I agree with you, but every instructor training course I’ve been on says it’s important, I’ve never questioned it until you did - once on a live steam - it actually makes sense to leave the highbacks alone. What’s your take on ‘no backs’ ( switch back )or ‘low backs’ - also pointless?
So here's the issue with going backless. If you don't have a low back or a no back plug it puts you further back in the heel cup and you have to recenter everything otherwise you are more heel heavy. Now with that said going backless or low back is a personal preference choice and designed to give you more backward lean as well as a more surfy feel on the binding. I did low backs back in I think 96 or 97, tried no backs on the Switchback bindings maybe 7 years ago and I can say it's not for me. You lose any power control on the heel edge to instead get more play and a surfier feel. If you're a precision based rider it's the worst, if you're a lazy laid back rider it makes some sense. If you're looking for an in between then I recommend Salomons Shadow Fit technology.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thats some mid 90's shit right there... we would ride shitty baseless bindings with low high backs and like a zero zero 25" stance.... at least our pant legs were wide enough to cover the whole board!
I have always told beginers to jump in the air, bring your knees up as much as you can and land as stable as possible (on foot). That should give you a general idea of your stance, degree and width. Maybe thats bad advice? It seems to work.
There's more that goes into binding set up than landing stable. Consider how the forces of snowboarding are being applied to the board through the binding. More positive angles open up the hips more. A narrow stance will turn quicker but with less stability. I always tell people to experiment and feel the differences for themselves
Man, it’s tough to decide on a stance when you don’t ride a lot. I put mine on the reference and decided it was too wide without ever actually going out. Ended up 1 notch closer on each binding(21.5” stance at 6ft tall). Also went +12°, -3°. I’d say I’m a solid intermediate rider, but have hardly been of there in the last 13 years. To be honest it all came back to me in the first 60 seconds and I felt great out there on a brand new board and bindings.
@@kc510 that’s funny I’m 6ft and ended up close to same but went the opposite. Started on a 540 reference and board felt unstable so jumped to next holes on rear foot at 560 (22). Started +15/0 but was putting too much pressure on outside small toe in front foot and couldn’t put down toe edge pressure on rear so gradually went out more until +21/-9. Got a new board and closest I could get was 555 (21.8ish) so I started there but then it’s a true twin so tried +15/-15 wasn’t too bad but couldn’t look forward enough at speed gradually moved both forwards with same split since that’s where my knees seem happiest and ended up back at +21/-9. Now have a second board that’s longer so staying 555 and if necessary to control added length I’ll jump to 575. I’m in no way good but I’ve think I’ve found starting narrower (not stupid narrow) and moving out as needed makes more sense than starting massively cowboy stanced and then listening to what your feet and knees are telling you for angles will allow you to ride all day without pain.
@@jessehill3780 it’s fun coming back to this. I moved my bindings back out to the reference for my most recent trip. And set the bindings 15°, -3°. It definitely felt different but I’m not settled yet. For fun a took a day trip with the first board I ever owned and it felt like a rigid 2x4 strapped to my feet. Things have changed a lot in 20 years.
Middle of the workday. I stop to take lunch. Decide to check RU-vid for some background video to watch. See Avrans latest video. Car gets flooded with semen. What a day.
Anyone else remember the days before the hole patterns on snowboards and binding attachment systems were standardized? No? You should, probably, get off of my lawn. You can't imagine the joy of needing to drill holes in your bindings when moving between boards.
This was incredible thank you Avran. The other day I saw something at my shop that made me scratch my head.. a girl had her bindings on the correct way (base plates were anatomically correct) but her buckles were on the inside, which would have meant someone would have had to unscrew her straps and flip them around. She said a person at another shop set the bindings up for her. Given the fact that this was a gnu chromatic with union milan bindings set up for a beginner, was that shop employee just trying to clown on her? Would love to hear your thoughts
Was probably a sporting goods store. Back when Sports Authority was a thing, they used to send people to my shop with their cheap crap bought there to "install" it. Had a woman come in and realized that someone had sold her some Salomon bindings with the straps flipped like that. Made no sense, but just assumed some ass hat at the hockey stick, gun ammo, and ice skate emporium had taken a set back returned that way.
@@AngrySnowboarder Figured it was something like that. I told her buckles out, always, and fixed her bindings for her. Coincidentally I work at a "sporting goods store" but we run a legit ski/snowboard shop and are one of the most popular shops in the area. I've seen all kinds of wack shit but never that.
Why give him any acknowledgement? Dude craves attention. He sits around shitting on "core" snowboarding saying its dead or dying but also longs for acknowledgement from anyone that is part of actual snowboarding. Dude needs a punch in the mouth because he's clearly never been in a fight in his life.
I’m wondering what binding degrees I should rock on my superpig with my union atlas bindings. I won’t do that much switch riding. I’m thinking 15 and -9 but wouldn’t mind something more aggressive.
Sorry...I could be the one with step on and still sit. I probably sit only once out of 10 times because sometimes it is just hard to find a good surface to step on
Pick up board while balancing on back foot, angle board so edge can cut a ridge into the snow, hack the snow till you create a shelf to steady yourself on, step in, ride.
@@AngrySnowboarder probably shouldn’t of asked this question on a binding vid. Was just asking if I could get away with riding a 159w aviator when I’m 110kg
I know a casual snowboarder who sets up his bindings both pointing about 15 degrees backwards. I've tried to change it to duck but he won't let me. lol
Slowly change his binding 3 degrees at a time so that he does not notice. By the time he notice has a normal stance, it will be too late for him change back. I did this with my brother.
won't listen to more experienced people? Sounds like a kook. If anyone JUST says "oh it just feels good" they usually don't know what they're talking about.
@@spencerthompson1426 - If a friend is happy counter-rotating down the hill once a year with a backwards stance I'm not going to stress over it unless I think they're putting others in danger.
I was waxing a board for my buddy and asked what his angles were. He told me +11 and -14. He wasn't riding ESTs. He was counting each notch down from 15 as 1. So he had his front foot at +3 and his back foot at -12 I was just going to set him up +12 and 0 because his stance was really getting on my nerves, but he insisted I did it the way he liked. Fuckin' guy.
