Great show Mazzy, I agree across the board. I really liked the Jason segment. He accomplished exactly what he wanted to. He showed his true "colors" and he put a few more million in his bank account. It really is a shame when songs that and others make one popular and rich. Have a great New Years Mazzy ! !
Miami Vice also used an absolute belter of a tune in an epsidoe which i couldn't believe when i heard it as i watched the show... The Cure - The Kiss, i still applaude their choice to this day nearly 40 years later
Just brilliant Mazzy 😂 your channel content goes from strength to strength congratulations. Wishing you a Happy and Healthy 2024…..Peace and Love from the UK 🇬🇧
Happy New Year, Mazzy! I would love to hear what album(s) you would recommend people listen to on New Years day. I plan to listen to 'Heros' Symphony by Phillip Glass, Bowie and Eno. So inspirational and ethereal. Wishing you and your viewers the best.
So many times in the video I found myself saying “well said Mazzy”. Absolutely agree with you on No1. Absolutely top video as always! Happy New Year to you Mazzy and hope 2024 is a great year for you ! All the best from Manchester!
Two thumbs up!! Among other things, thanks for calling out your favorite Beatles. Hopefully someone listens and comes up with the revolutionary idea of issuing the early albums in Mono! Best Wishes for 2024!
Absolutely brilliant Mazzy, your best video of the year! Wishing you a very Happy New Year and all the best for 2024. Btw I hope someone at Apple is watching, they need to hire you as CEO!!!
Perfect as always, Mazzy - I don't totally agree with one of your choices, but that 's ok. I can tell you this - #1 is spot on, have never understood why he is so revered (or was)...thanks for putting a smile on my face for the last day of 2023, have a great 2024!
Brilliant. I remember spending 3 months working with some fellow Brits in Texas and Louisiana in 1984 and the one word that we used a lot that caused to most confusion with local friends and colleagues was "wanker". I never thought I'd be able to thank Phil Collins for something. 🙂
Fun facts: Face Value came out in 1981. As a kid, we got Rubber Soul in mono for Christmas in 1965. I didn't hear the stereo mix for years (and that was shocking when I finally did - vocals on the left, drums on the right!)
The Beatles stereo mixes were panned fully, hard left, hard right. We used the same idea when my band 'bOGANS used to record our practices. Good for zooming into gat or bass to see what a previous version did, too.. extra vocal tracks, and drums sorta middle or to a third to give it a good mix..
Just got back from the record store. Picked up The Temptations Box Set, the '89 aabko Beggars Banquet, and two Psychedelic Fur cds. Almost bought Lou Reed Mistrial, Ry Cooder promo Borderline, and Randy Newman Land of Dreams all in NM on lp. But held off bc I already have all 3. A little after Xmas shopping to support my indie downtown record store. Happy New Year all you wankers!
Mazzy, another wonderful video! I am from the UK and you are more than qualified to say the word “wanker” . Please also feel free to use “knob-head” and “doilem” ( Yorkshire slang) too. I hope you have a fabulous new year mate and I look forward to your content next year!
What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? ...... A big New Year's Eve greeting from Dublin, Ireland. You hit the nail on the head every time!!!
Thanks Mazzy. I always love your wanker lists! As an aside you’ve been in Seattle awhile now. Are you planning to or have you already given your impressions of the city. I live up the coast on Mayne Island BC and would be interested.
Good on Maz....you know...I'm a little older and remember when we used to respect others opinions.. and do what it right.. seems since social media there's a lot of hate in the world...many times I'm not disappointed I'm not 25 years od anymore. I feel privileged to know you all.....yes I agree with most not all of what I hear here on RU-vid, music and other topics included. I wish you a happy, safe and healthy 2024. Thanks for what you do.--JG
First off I don’t want to sound snobbish, but those of us out here in the Bay Area are truly ingrained with always speaking our mind. Obliviously it can create problems but greater ones occur when we stand idly by and do nada. Love your passion and how well you execute your arguments. Well done sir. Speaking truth to power is a freedom I hope we never lose. Happy New Year to you and us all. 🖖🚀
Hi Mazzy. Love it. Coming from Australia we use the word regularly and all the actions on the list perfectly fit the description. Most people do wankish things every now and then and learn from them. While others are just born wankers and can never stop doing or saying idiotic things. Reminds me of the great song "Everybody's got to learn sometime" Like the Zucchero version.
Agree there is a balance that should happen. But there are things we all can do. Some more sone less friends g in where and how we live. We have point things in the right direction and don’t totally ingore things happening around us.
Beatles in mono for a reasonable price as a standard availability! And a decent recognizable "remix"-tag on the covers to make those easily distinguishable. Mazzy nailed it.
I'm one of those guys who try their best to preserve the hype stickers by peeling them off from the shrink and pasting them on the inner sleeve. Luckily most of the time I succeed. But without you're lost. They even keep the historic catalog numbers. In the past, there were those "electronically re-channeled" hints, which never meant something good and most of the time (especially in Germany) there was no alternative. But at least you were warned.
@@FrightNFight You could a few years ago. They took them down. Do not let record labels and streaming services dictate what you do and don't get to listen to.
Your a brave and good man for posting this list! My daughter just started collecting Beatles albums. What a mind field ! So I gave her my old collection. Don’t people learn learn from the past? I guess not thank you for all you do.
Great list Mazzy! How about a Brill list of music in 2023? Not for the best music but for people in music who actually did something good in 2023. I remember seeing Kate Rusby here years ago and it seemed like every other word she said was Brill "That was truly Brill..". "This hall is just Brill.." Would go with the wanker Brit theme. Anyways Happy New Years from Canada!
Yes, I agree totally. Kanye West is the biggest " full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." And I just loved listening to your whole podcast. Keep it up!
I worked with an English dude at a restaurant out here in L.A. He was a bully ( Gordon Ramsey type), and I called him a Wanker all the time...and he was! He was also impressed. Great video, Mazzy. Happy New Year.🎉
Thank you. You have hit the nail on the head in terms of mono original releases. I was disgusted at a recent vinyl release of Frank Zappa's Freak Out or example, which was a vinyl of a digital remaster(POINTLESS!!!) what I thought I was buying was a vinyl from the master tapes like the rest of the current vinyl re-issues of Frank Zappa. Vinyl of digital recordings is POINTLESS!!! So I am totally getting your frustration at the wankers that are re-issuing The Beatles in some stupid stereo to mono re-release, just re-release the original master tape analogue recording in ANALOGUE. That's all were asking.
Hey Mazzy -- good video! I've been watching for a while and never heard you mention that your mother was from West Virginia. Where was she born and have you ever been out here? (I'm in South Charleston.). Keep up the good work!
You're right on the money. Thank you for the info on mono Beatles. My first 3 albums in my life were mono. The Kinks first album. Vanilla Fudge, and Meet the Beatles. I'm going to have to dig out my remaining albums to see how msny are mono.
Good stuff an happy new year me dear. I can’t stand throwing or watching the show through a mobile. I remember seeing Dylan c1982 ish? Someone threw a rose and it hit dylan square on the nose an probably eyes too but fair play he looked briefly startled but never broke stride in any way. I think i was more perturbed than Bob was; that was the first time i ever saw anything thrown like that.
Not a huge fan of your disclaimer, it’s sad you had to do that. I Love your content Mazzy. I’ve been watching you all year, including on Rachel ghost. You’re fair, knowledgeable, and entertaining. And I think you and Melinda need to do a collab channel! (Is there a ghost in for “cleanest homes”?) Happy New a year Max - stay awesome!!
I will have to watch in the morning. I note the video is over 30 mins long. That’s not a surprise. This is a serious subject and you could not expect the video to be “tossed off” quickly!
Mazzy..I’ve been reading the comments section, a couple of people are asking about your shirt! Honestly you’ve got to do a clothing line..I worked in sales 15 years, I can always spot an opportunity! 😂 @@mazzysmusic
as an englishman i was recently called a 'tosser' by a building site worker who had a wheel problem on his van and was looking around the vehicle to see what was wrong and when i pointed out he had one on each corner he used this wonderful term! so do try this expletive as well as it means the same! (at 76yrs old i have over the years been called far worse!).
Hey Mazzy, that was a great 2023 wanker list, I agree with all those except Morrissey. I have a soft spot for him, I’m a long time fan and I’ve seen him a number of times dating back to 1991 at the Garden in NY. He never canceled a show on me. I hope you go easier on him in the new year. Wishing you a Happy New Year Mazzy, also thank you for announcing this morning on Rachel’s show about the WFMU fare returning to Manhattan, you made my day..🎼🎉❤️✌️
