You will like this better than the ESEE. Even though its not a FFG, it bites into and slices material very well. It will chop better, batton better, tip will hold up better and overall stronger than the ESEE. Its a lot better than an ESEE 6. Wish they would do a clip point version. Great vid and good choice in knives.
I have been using TKC scales for years. I have them on an RTAK-II, RAT 7, BK14, Esee 6, and Esee Junglas; they are great scales. I have sheaths for the Esee 6 and Rat 7; I have never had the retention issue you are experiencing. You could probably hit the sheath with a heat gun at the throat and use the knife to "loosen" the retention a bit. Nice to see the Archtect knife in 3V.
Gorgeous looking knife! One thing I love about kydex is how easy it is to adjust the retention with a bit of heat. If you take a hair dryer or heat gun to the sheath where it's grabbing you can flex it a bit to ease the tension off some.
I have this knife but not in the "shoot at me" orange. I have no complaints, consider it one of my best camp knives, and like it much better than Esee. The sheath is better than Esee sheath.
It’s more or less a better esee 6. I’ve always wanted an esee in 3v, why they haven’t done it is beyond me, instead they picked s35vn for its stainless properties, I’ve never had rust issues with 3v. Esee broke their s35 blade in testing and still kept it.
Great video, thanks. I purchased the Architect 3V 6.5 Field Buddy knife 🔪 made by Tops Knives sold by The Knife Conection. Put a 90 degree spine on with diamond sharpener and now knife is perfect. Bought the awesome JR Industries leather sheath. Highly recommend this knife for a heavy-duty survival knife. Not to big and not to small. For a survival belt knife it was just about everything I was looking for. I do piggy back a Esee 3 with the extended knife scales from the knife Conection. This Esee 3 plastic sheath mounted nice and slim on the Field Buddy. The tip on the field buddy is great for its strength and what I wanted. No knife is a perfect one too option but these two pared together are getting close to perfection. The esee 3 gives me the quick draw, pointy stabby tip, easy sharpening, thin slice and small size I give up on the bigger Field Buddy. Plus both knives have no questions asked unconditional life warranties. I mounted ferro rod and it works not to big but not to small knife system. A great foundation to start my kit.
@@peterbiltknifeguy I heard the Tops is still doing the 1095 steel for TKC but TKC is now having possibly 3 Rivers Knives make the 3V steel version of the Field Buddy knife. When I bought my 3V Field Buddy TKC did get the knife blade in 3V from Tops Knives and Tops had the heat treatment done by Peters. I know Peters heat treat is one of the best. A lot of knife makers use them, like I think Survive Knives, especially for 3V steel knives. I get Emailer from I think it's is 3 Rivers Knives about the Architect Field Buddy knife updates and orders from TKC still and or them. Tops may have got to busy or tired of 3V or possibly stopped over pricing with TKC.
@@thomaschainey533 if you go to the actual architect website it says the 3v, s35vn and magnacut are manufactured by white river knife and tool. With peters heat treatment
There is a seller on eBay, Carroll's custom knife scales, that has scales somewhat similar to TKC, prices and knives with scales available are seemingly comparable, but I have not tried them out yet. I think a youtuber named The Last Huntsman Outdoors did a video showcasing them...
Great looking blade. I love the orange color way. I just ordered the Cold Steel SRK in 3v. I also picked the orange version. I'm looking forward to testing mine out when I can. I picked orange because i am intending to put it into a survival kit.
I think TOPS makes the best looking knives of any company. Great quality and design too, but they are on par with a bunch of good companies in that department. But when it comes to aesthetics TOPS is way ahead… in my humble opinion
I think white river is making the s35vn, 3V, and magnacut now. Tops is making the 1095. I do have the original first run 3V that was made by tops though.
Looks like that sliding adjustment nut on the sheath is adjustable for tension. I been waiting for someone to review the 6.5 in 3V. I didn’t care for the 5.5 1095 (Too Thin) and being use to the Esee 6 finger choil it’s a bit dangerous for me...Correct me if I’m wrong but Esee has Rowen also has a differential heat treatment on there 1095 similar to Tops.
The only thing im concerned about is the skeletonized tang, otherwise i woild have already ordered one. I like to be able to baton without concern for the knife breaking. Im curious what the 8 inch model would feel like.
@peterbiltknifeguy well apparently it didn't take much convincing since I just ordered one... lol. I was actually looking at these this past week and the saw your short and thought "great minds think alike".
The skeletonized tang is a non issue, trust me. As long as the cut outs are radius and not 90 degree, it takes the stress point completely out of the equation. There’s enough steel left around the cut outs and bolt holes and far enough away from the ricasso that it easily has 95% percent strength of a solid tang.
they basically stole the handle design from the esee 5/6 and the blade design from the GSO 5.1 and slapped them together and called it a day......and i can't really complain because I want one LOL!
@@peterbiltknifeguy the reason I asked is because I don't know what to go with. The 3v or the magnacut. I like the 3v because it offers toughness equivalent to a prybar with an edge. But I also like magnacut because it offers top notch rust resistants and I live next to a very humid, salty beach.
For your use case, assuming corrosion resistance is a real priority, MagnaCut is a great choice. Certainly it isn't as tough as 3V but it is pretty damn tough, especially for a stainless particle metallurgy steel. Considering the respectable thickness of the stock and the saber grind it utilizes it would likely prove plenty tough for most any hard use task, even if not the toughness of a 3V example. Full disclosure, I recently picked up one of the AK 6.5's in MagnaCut and have been plenty impressed with it to this point. I haven't put it fully through the ringer as of yet but it has shrugged off everything I've managed to throw at it as of yet, including some not insignificant batoning work. I do know that White River is the OEM for their 6.5 MagnaCut models and they are a quality blade maker in their own right. Ideally it won't be necessary to put Architect's Lifetime Warranty to use, but assuming they stand behind their product, I really can't do anything but give it a whole-hearted recommendation. I am very much a fan of this blade. 🤙
Wow it’s a survive knives GSO copy. Hard pass. Regardless of the survive’s reputation I can’t support a company who just ripoffs another makers design.
